Gus Johnson Fired By MSG Network

The über-popular announcer will reportedly no longer call Knicks games. The NY Post reports that his bosses at MSG were upset with the way his side gigs affected his work, so they sent him packing: “Gus Johnson, the shouts-a-lot, play-by-play radio voice of the Knicks since the 1997-98 season — and a frequent fill- in for Mike Breen on MSG Network’s Knicks’ telecasts — is out at the Garden. Over the last two seasons, Johnson, 43, had annoyed MSG Network shot-callers by missing many games to work outside TV gigs, including CBS’ college basketball and Showtime boxing. Johnson’s primary replacement is expected to be Mike Crispino, an MSG TV and radio multi-tasker since 1992. Johnson, in 1997, replaced Mike Breen, who moved to MSG TV.”

MMA fans really dislike this guy as an announcer for Showtime. I wish he had of been fired there instead.

    I like Gus.

This is shameful; yet another slap in the face to Knicks fans via James Dolan. Nobody I’d rather listen to during a Knicks game more than Gus and Clyde.

May not be so bad, as Gus may pick more gigs elsewhere and I like the Breen-Clyde combo for Knicks games…

  • dave Posted: Oct.27 at 11:27 am
thank god. have hated gus johnson since the first day I heard him. I refused to buy the new Madden 11 because he’s the featured announcer. He’s just awful…makes it all about him instead of the game.

Knicks fan will miss Gus Johnson call of the game. They should fire D’Antoni right away. His program & coaching style and awareness is not the answer.
