Is Al Jefferson Overweight?

Jefferson showed up to camp 15 pounds heavier that he was last season — and forgot to claim that it was all muscle! — a concern for the Jazz that the Salt Lake Tribune raises: “Al Jefferson weighed in at 280 pounds for camp. That is 15 pounds more than Jefferson was listed at just four days ago. Asked today about Jefferson’s shape, Utah Jazz coach Jerry Sloan would only say that several players were not in ideal shape. Jefferson has said all the right things since joining the Jazz, and appears to be in a good mental space. He has nearly a month to get in shape and improve his conditioning, and Sloan has not made an issue out of Jefferson’s weight. The fact that Jefferson currently weighs as much as Fesenko is somewhat alarming. Long way to go, though, until Oct. 27.”

So Al Jefferson, Eddy Curry, and Baron Davis walk into an all-you-can-eat-buffet…and exit some time later, threatening lawsuits.

Very alarming. He needs to get in shape, he had ACL surgery just a year and a half ago. This could bad news for my fantasy team.

I am pretty sure the non-euro guys have been scrimmaging for almost a month in SLC, including Al Jeff. I don’t think reporters go to those that often but he musta been hella heavy if he’s already been running w the team for a month and still 15 lbs over.

I saw Fes at the bar the other night. He had some skinny *ss forearms for a man his size.

    Meh, he should be fine.

The line of questioning sounds like something straight out of the tabloids! I get it in context of sports. However, it just sounded like gossip. “Is so and so overweight? Stayed tuned!” hahah!

He doesn’t really look overweight. By all accounts, he has been working extremely hard since training camp. I’m sure he’s not in what Sloan considers great shape, but players rarely are when they first come to Utah. Big Al has been saying all the right things, and Sloan has been complimentary of his work ethic since he arrived. Jerry doesn’t blow smoke, so I take him at hiw word. Al will get there.
