Jason Kidd Wants to Play Until He’s 40

If all goes according to plan, Kidd plans to play in the L for a few more years. FanHouse reports: “Dallas point guard Jason Kidd, who turns 38 on March 23, is starting to conjure up memories of Stockton. All Kidd did last season was make the All-Star Game just shy of his 37th birthday and average 9.1 assists. Even Stockton, who averaged 8.2 in the season he turned 40, never put up an average of nine or more assists in any season in which he was 36 or older. Come back March 23, 2013, and Kidd might be the next point guard playing at a high level at 40. ‘I would love to follow in those footsteps,’ Kidd said in an interview with FanHouse about being as effective at that age as Stockton, who averaged 13.8 points in the season he hit 40 and 10.8 and 7.8 assists in his final season of 2002-03 after turning 41. ‘He’s the best. If I could come close to doing what he did at his age, I would be very happy.’”

So he still has two more years to find a J.

  • NJ4Life

that or you have two more years to realize he never needed one

The gap for All time assists is huge between Kidd and Stockton. If that’s what he’s gunning for then… good luck.lol

  • neaorin

Maybe, if the NBA gets a designated hitter rule so he only has to play offense. Then even Shaq can play until his legs completely erode from under him.

You can’t compare the two, assist-wise. Basically, Stock played with Malone — it’s a lot easier to dish to the same person, y’all know each other moves way too well.
J-Kidd on the other side, balls versatile. Original and unique.

he’d be a great coach down the line…

  • larrylegend

i just hope the knee(s) agree..

  • Groves

@NJ4Life… couldn’t have put it better myself

  • http://slamonline.com Kap

At the moment he is a very good stand still three point shooter…

I could see it happening; he’s still productive, has great court vision and knows how to lead the team. He’s doesn’t put up elite point guard types of numbers but it would be hard for the Mavs to get somebody much better.

  • VisionofGreatness

If John Wall keeps blowing past him like he did the other night, he may need to re-think this.

    hahahaha…. nice one @NJ4life

I’m for it. He’s not the only high assist pg not to play defense.

  • anti-crust

Shaq’s legs eroded years ago… As for JKidd comparing stats to Stockton, you have to remember that Stockton toward the end of his career was very minutes monitored. I don’t follow the Mav’s as their owner is the epitome of the kid in school that no one wanted to hang around, but still beat up. So no matter what Kidd does, you can’t make comparisons. Stockton and Malone were a force. Kidd and “fill in the blank” are 2 guys on a basketball team.

  • T-Money

Roddy Buckets could extend his career by allowing to play pg on offense and sg on defense.

Eboys a hater. Kidd is a great spot up shooter, not too great off the dribble tho. Hes what 6? On all time 3pt list?

  • ai come back

if kidd beats stockton on the assists record kidd is gonna be the best pt guard ever in my mind idc bout all yall but if kidd could beat stockton thatd be one of the craziest things ever

I love Little Johnny Tightshorts just as much as every other true bball fan. But people on here hating on Kidd compared to Stock, should remember that Stock made two Finals series playing with Malone, Kidd made two Finals series playing with Kenyon Martin. Kidd is as legit as they come. Most def in the conversation for best 1 ever.

  • http://www.danchamb.com.br Lz – Cphfinest3

*1 as in the number of his position.

  • http://Slamonline.com Caboose

Lz-Cphfinest3, I’m sorry, but Kidd can’t be a part of that conversation yet. It’s currently occupied by Magic and Stockton. Stock has two gold medals and is the all time leader in both assists AND steals, both by a pretty huge amount. Kidd won’t catch Stockton in assists, he’s still 5,000 behind.

  • http://www.need4sheed.com Tarzan Cooper

Cabosse must have forgot kidd also has two golds and is undefeated. LED teams to the finals, should have had an mvp. Def one of the top pgs ever. … ….. No one will beat stocks numbers

  • http://Slamonline.com Caboose

Tarzan, I’m not saying Kidd isn’t number 3 all time in point guards (I believe he is) but the number one spot is between Stockton and Magic.

  • Morgan

J Kidd is the 90s-00s-10s version of John Stockton. I don’t think you can really put one above the other. Both superior PGs who had long productive careers. I hope he gets his wish and balls til hes in his 40s. A dead-cert for the HOF.

  • L

You’ll have to consider Isiah Thomas in that best ever PG conversation. L

Athletes are going to start playing well into their 40′s more often due to major advances in Sports Medicine in the future – which will likely make microfracture surgery a footnote. There is an article from Popular Science regarding the future of sports medicine, and in it surgeons believed that stem cells and cartilage transplants will become common in the next decade. Doctors will take out the damaged meniscus and replace it with one they grew in the lab. Microfracture will not even be a consideration. Until that day and certainly over the next few years, the advances made in this procedure figure to be a major factor in the play of a few NBA stars and their teams.

eboy jus talkin trash again.. if kidd played for the heat eboy would say he was the greatest point guard to ever play the game

  • http://safjdklf.com Jukai

Morgan: Uh, I think you can easily put one above the other. And I think you can put Oscar Robertson and Isiah Thomas above both of them.
