Kobe Bryant Wants an NBA Team in Orange County

Bryant thinks the place where he resides deserves an NBA squad, but not before he hangs up his sneakers for good. From the OC Register: “Newport Coast resident Kobe Bryant will play his annual ‘home’ game Tuesday night, staying in Orange County for the Lakers’ exhibition game at Honda Center against Utah. Bryant said the NBA shouldn’t just be visiting Orange County. He said the area deserves its own franchise. ‘It’s fun playing in the Pond, because I know how badly they want a team down there in Orange County,’ Bryant said after the Lakers’ exhibition game at Staples Center on Sunday night. ‘And they definitely deserve one … It’s a great place; it’s a beautiful place,’ Bryant said about Orange County. ‘You see how they support the Ducks and how they support the Angels. I think having a basketball team is well deserved.’ For now, though, Bryant likes that the only games anywhere near town are the Lakers and Clippers. That’s why he smiled and added: ‘Hopefully it won’t happen till I retire. This way, they’ll continue to have their allegiance to the Lakers.’”

They should move the Clippers. Allow them a chance to garner an identity separate from “that other team that plays at Staples.”

LOL. The last night Clippers and Utah both had an away game in Staples because the Lakers played an hour before the Clips. A slap in the face me thinks. But I’m not complaining though :D

  • KB8toSG8

Although its impossible to replace the entire setting in an hour but I still had a great laugh seeing that.

Ya but maybe people in Las Vegas, Kansas City, St. Louis, Seattle deserve a team also. If anything I agree with moving the Clips to the OC.

  • MikeC.

Seattle first. Vegas is the most likely to get an expansion team though.

if i wanted to see more pompous self-entitled A-holes, id watch the lakers. :D

@ riggs. f you, don’t make overlapping assumptions about millions of people myself included.

@Garrick, Riggs isnt saying that everyone in the OC is a “pompus self-entitled A-hole”, just that it definetly has the highest concentration of them. Side note: Kobe Bryant takes a helicopter to every home game.

move the clips… but i’d like to see a LA football team first.. can’t bring myself to root for the SD chargers..

@Boing: if I was making 30 mil/year and winning titles, I’d ride on a rocket to games, and it’d explode into millions of delicious candies after I got off.

Was this why Magic Johnson sold his minority share of the Lakers? maybe somethings in the works – STERNBOT….what you got up your grimy referee loving sleeve?

  • KB8toSG8

@Darce….I’m thinking Magic is gonna buy off the Pistons with a group of investors. I’m sure I already read it somewhere. Think about it. Magic vs Jordan again LOL. Think of all the sparks that will fly in the playoffs if the two teams meet. Bragging rights.
