Mavs Turning Jason Terry Into a Starter?

The media in Dallas can’t figure out what Terry’s role will be when the regular season kicks off, and the team isn’t helping out with clues. From the Dallas Morning News: “The former NBA Sixth Man of the Year vows that he’s going to win the award again this season. But it will be hard to do so if he’s not coming off the bench. He was the starter at shooting guard in the most recent preseason game against the Bulls. It may have been a sign that Terry is going to start there on opening night against Charlotte. It’s never easy to tell with Rick Carlisle … Terry’s take on the situation is that he couldn’t care less about starting. But it’s also something that he respects. By midseason, that job may be Roddy Beaubois’. When Terry was asked if he’s just keeping the seat warm for somebody else, he was noncommittal. ‘Maybe I’ll just keep it warm,” Terry said. ‘Or maybe I won’t give it back’ … In that regard, Carlisle is grateful to have two more preseason games. He said he has not made any final judgments on the shooting guard situation. But he also knows that whichever way he goes, it won’t fluster Terry. ‘Jet has embraced that sixth-man role,’ Carlisle said. ‘He’s put his money where his mouth is the last few years. If you get in a situation where he has to start, he’d have no problem with that. But we’re not there yet.'”
