Polladaday: Miami Role Players?

Every top-tier team needs strong role players that can hit open shots and play tough D. While LeBron, DWade and Bosh will do most of Miami’s heavy lifting, they’ll need some help. Who will step up?

Who will be the Heat's most important role player?

Haslem will get many open shot from the top off the bucket witch means 2 points high % shots

Mike Miller will be the guy that keeps the offense spread. I think eventually he will start at the 2….maybe 40 games into the season.

Mike Miller will benefit the best. Plus he’s heck funny and I think him and Chris Bosh could do some great commercials this year.

  • Groves

i like both haslem and miller as my votes… while millers value has been said, haslem can make up for some of that post defense the heat are lacking and can get a few of the extra rebounds that chris bosh misses on a quiet night

Wasn’t mike miller rookie of the year?

  • T-Money

I’d keep him off the bench, if possible. 1- He’ll play 30+ mins regardless and will be there in crunch time à la Manu and LO. 2- You need SOME scoring punch off the bench. 3- Positions are important to players. TD was outraged when he was labelled as a C in an all-star ballot a couple of years ago and the NBA had to rectify it even though he’s been essentially playing center since D-Rob retired. Wade wants to be labelled a 2 and LeBron has said that he can play anywhere but is more comforable at the 3. It’s all semantics but that ish is important to stars.

  • Overtime

Miller will benefit the most, he’ll be ‘best’ in terms of stats etc, but Haslem will be incredibly important if/when Bosh goes down with an injury on the boards/post defene

  • Jose

Haslem is the key man just ciz of what Overtime said. injury or not. i mean we know bosh doesnt wanna deal with any 5′s, and when we had marion w/ us haslem was the one guarding the big man. His # will get called up during those moments when Joel can’t get it done.I think miller seems more valuable only due in part that he will most likely but subbing in for wade/LBJ. I still gotta go w/ UD

In my opinion Haslem should be starting at the 5 instead of Joel Anthony. I mean, come on, Joel Anthony?

Joel Anthony, he’s only their for 2 reasons, block shots and hound boards. If they can get more production out of him than that, ever better

  • http://www.slamonline.com/ niQ

@Seth, Haslem doesn’t get blocks. I would assume that’s the reason.

Mike Miller. And it’s good to finally see dude on a winning team.

    I chose Haslem.
If he continues to be as active as he normally is, locks down the best big for the other team, and sticks that jumper, the Heat will roll all year long. they can eliminate minutes for their weaker bigs if Haslem dominates.

@niQ, yeah I understand Anthony can block a shot, but that’s about all I’ve seen out of him. I just assumed Miami would go with the better player [in Haslem] instead of sticking Anthony out there to record his 1 or 2 blocks and a couple boards. I’m sure Haslem will be in the starting role if things don’t work out.

Haslem is too short to start center. Miller will come off the bench all year because thats whats needed. Los, house, mm, haslem, z. Very nice bench. Then magloire in case kg wants to play dirty, kg will shut up real quick.

By the way, anybody sign dampier yet?

  • http://google c_cantrell

miller will get no tellin how many open looks this year.. hel jack up more 3s than he ever has

I’m going with Haslem. I personally value interior D and toughness over perimeter shooting. Also, I don’t see teams leaving Miller open if he proves to be lethal during the regular season.

l james. mainly in the playoffs motivated by his buddy d wade.
