Report: Delonte West, Von Wafer in Fist-Fight (UPDATE)

UPDATE: Chris Mannix of Sports Illustrated tweeted Friday afternoon that the Celtics are leaning towards keeping West despite the altercation earlier today.

Delonte West’s time in Boston may be short. West is already serving a 10-game suspension because of weapons charges, and on Friday his situation got worse. Alex Kennedy of HOOPSWORLD reports that West and teammate Von Wafer got into a fight today after practice: “After another intense three-on-three game in practice today, Delonte West and Von Wafer got into a fist fight in the locker room. Punches were thrown and the players had to be separated. The Celtics are considering releasing West, who is on a non-guaranteed contract. Sources say that Wafer tried to walk away but West followed him into the locker room and threw the first punch. Doc and vets aren’t happy.”

  • http://hansdeiter33@gmail.com Bmack

This just makes me think Von Wafer scored alot on him.

  • TrailBlazing&SportingLisbon

  • cathmeimballin

maybe delonte got mad cuz wafer beat him in a dancin contest

  • http://slamonline.com YKnot

Von said he was gonna make the final roster. Guess he just guranteed it. Lol

  • http://thephotoriot.com davidR

he sounds just like cyril o’reilly from oz. i guess he thinks just like him too

  • http://www.slamonline.com Eboy

To be honest though, dude has a really good game, would Boston really just throw him out in the cold and let another potential contender pick him up? Perhaps let Shaq and Garnett whip up on him for a few minutes?

  • saveahoe11

It pretty much indicates your a ridiculous tw*t Cheryl, thats about it….

  • The Philosopher

    Career ender.
Shout out to Wafer for not letting West punk him.

  • SWIFTboy

Saveahoe didn’t understand the question OR the difference between vindicate/indicate.

  • NickthaQuick

Word is Von Wafer called Delonte a m*f* and he didn’t appreciate those remarks.

  • vtrobot

in all seriousness, i hope that delonte is OK and i hope that Von remains OK since he was just fighting with a dude with well know struggles with depression who carries a shotgun in a guitar case. i delonte is OK after his time in the L is done. seems to be fast approaching. this sucks. i was very happy to have him back in BOS. no one should talk about cheryl like that. cheryl is one of the best posters on here. get some class and GTFOH, saveahoe.

  • LeBron de Con

    I blame Gloria James?

  • LeBron de Con

Delonte probably didn’t like being called a m*f* because it wasn’t preceded by Lebron as in Lebron’s m*f*

  • permaculture james

I guess he didn’t read the Ubuntu sign when he walked in the door. Gotta keep your eyes on the big picture little man. (And tone it down, saveahoe)

  • http://www.need4sheed.com Tarzan Cooper

I wish there was video. Shaq kg and jo regulating on these dudes, with nate trying to instigate. Paul and ray just shaking their heads…….. … .. Delonte is dumb, and very lucky his suspension wasnt much longer. Wonder what happens now.

  • http://www.need4sheed.com Tarzan Cooper

    And bmack is probably right.

  • Flight

Can’t wait for TMZ to bring video of this. But really if your Boston you’ve got to think best interest in your team, get Von Wafer out of there. Delonte is a far better player.

  • Hum

Did he sleep with Von’s mom too?

  • T-Money

I think this is the end of the road for him. Talented, yes. But not worth the trouble. Brian Windhorst made numerous allusions that the Cavs organization was really covering up for him during his stay there and writers had a tacit agreement to not report his erratic behaviour, i.e., randomly cussing out journalists and shoving teammates. Remember that when he was locked in his own appartment during training camp and didn’t want to practice, none of the Cavs players were surprised or tried to reach out. LBJ even said that they “had been around the block before with D-West and would just wait for him to come back”.

  • http://www.need4sheed.com Tarzan Cooper

Javaris crittenton and delonte west walk into a bar……………………..

  • http://slamonline.com The Black Rick Kamla

dude is bipolar, not that thats an excuse for his actions but if there isn’t somebody available on staff to help him deal with his issues then there isn’t a point in keeping him around

  • http://thetroyblog.com Teddy-the-Bear

Cyril O’Reilly was awesome, davidR. Oz is one of the best shows ever, props on the reference. Although, I don’t agree with conflating Cyril with Delonte…

  • Russ M

I’m not condoning fighting. And I obviously have no idea what went down that led Delonte to act I as he did. But EVERYONE can’t dismiss the idea that Von Wafer didn’t do or say something that warranted an ass whipping. Let’s hear a thing or two about what happened before we determine that once again Delonte’s the knucklehead.

  • Yesse

Oh my God. The way Delonte keeps getting into trouble, i don’t think he deserves to play in the Nba or any other league for that matter.

  • http://twitter.com/HarryByrdMan44 LA Huey

    I’ll wait for more details…

  • http://www.need4sheed.com Tarzan Cooper

    Pretty flimsy update.

  • Mas

Can someone say “Reality show” Delonte deserves it.
Oh and Shaq can be the sheriff that takes him in. right?

  • ab40

duh. he’s a lot better than wafer and he’s one of the guards of the bench with daniels at the three. If anyone is gonna get released it’s wafer

  • Martey

    awww souki souki now

@lebron de con 3:20pm below the belt, but that was funny

  • http://www.hoopsvibe.com/features/overdribbling chiqo

hey von, if you see delonte coming towards yoyu on a four wheeler, run.

Do something about it Wafer! lol

  • http://www.bulls.com Enigmatic

From Adam Kennedy at HoopWorld – “During a three-on-three game with Avery Bradley(notes), Luke Harangody(notes), Semih Erden(notes) and assistant coach Tyronn Lue(notes), West began fouling [Von] Wafer each time the reserve guard touched the ball. West was increasingly physical to the point that Wafer exited to the locker room midway through the game. As he walked away, West barked obscenities and taunted Wafer.

After Wafer had showered and sat down at his locker, West approached from behind and threw a punch. Wafer didn’t see the punch coming but quickly got off of the ground and connected on two punches of his own. He then wrestled West to the ground before being separated by the team’s veterans.”

Based on this, it was all West and not Wafer who is to blame here. I’d say get rid of his ass.

  • http://thephotoriot.com davidR

teddy, i wouldn’t either, and i dunno what’s going on with delonte, but the random behavior seems really reminiscent of cyril.
oz was one of the best shows. but man, the final season was such a wreck. so obvious the writers didnt have enough time to properly close it out

  • http://www.kb24.com The Seed

Sounds like West lost and Wafer won. West reminds me of a wanna be thug, that acts crazy, because that is what he is known for, but inside he is a scared little boy, who was never mentored the right way. Cut his but, Wafer the former Laker, should be on a NBA roster. West is a great slasher, step back jump shooter, but if he got issues then let him have his issues at home with Gloria. BOOK IT!!

Delonte West is a mini Artest.

  • Heals

Word is this, word is that. C’mon y’all with all the gossip, sounds like some folks missin’ high school…

  • http://www.need4sheed.com Tarzan Cooper

Orange, wrong. Ron never missed his target. Very funny that west missed a sucker punch from behind. Just like shaq

  • http://www.slamonline.com J

Redz needs major medical attention. I feel sorry for his condition but at the same time he should get punished for his actions. The might/should get him a longer suspension. That way he could have more time to deal with his sickness. His family and relatives should look out for him all the time. I want to hear the REAL full story. I hope what he did is just an effect of him being bipolar or from whatever mental condition he’s suffering and not by his own intent.

  • http://www.slamonline.com J

    * The league might/should..

  • Harlem_World

C’s don’t need that in their locker room. Chemistry is EVERYTHING to them this year. As good as they could be, they could also be torn apart by a divisive locker room. He’s not right in the mind to play pro basketball right now. Get him out of there and get him some help.

  • http://www.kwapt.blogspot.com KobeWearsAPurpleThong

Neither of them are going anywhere.

  • MikeC.

Redz is a solid player when his mind is right. If he had a brainiotomy, i’d love him on the Knicks.

  • robb

    Delonte is a f*** idiot

  • MikeC.

^^^yeah, well there’s a little African child trapped in me.

  • http://www.slamonline.com/online/media/slam-tv/2010/08/video-michael-jordans-love-of-the-game/ notblack

LOL @ tarzan the the possibiltys never end f or that story just imagine if you added shaq and kobe to the seen ohh my sht

  • http://itsahardwoodlife.blogspot.com omphalos

This is exactly why I didn’t want this dude on my Celtics; we have plenty of talent on the wings already without needing his locker room presence. Please, PLEASE get rid of this guy.

  • Aaron

Delonte sounds like he’s tough as nails, which you want coming off your bench, but he’s just as likely to strike at his own teammate as he is the other team. The C’s have to cut this guy loose – he’s not going to change, period. I think the C’s were hoping he could keep it together long enough to use him to get inside Lebron’s head during the playoffs, but it doesn’t look like that’ll happen.

@Tarzan Cooper: Who did Artest punch? Big Ben Wallace? I recall him backing down to Big Ben, and sitting on the scorers table. In fact the Pacers I remember connecting with punches were Stephen Jackson and Jermaine O’Neal, while Artest was mainly just standing in a sea of fans looking for who hit him with the beer cup. As for my comments, I’d say Delonte West right now is a lot like Artest in the past, and I say in the past, because Artest has obviously changed as a man. Maybe Delonte can get his head on straight too. Time will tell.

  • The Philosopher

    Excuse my “career ender” comment.
Shout out to Wafer still stands.

  • The Philosopher

And, Artest did connect a couple times.

  • Pingback: SLAM ONLINE | » Post Up: Florida State Haters

@Philosopher: Bottom line, Artest backed down like a scared little boy when Big Ben Wallace confronted him after that hard foul. As for Artest punching fans, I don’t recall that, or I must misremember, however, I do remember seeing Stephen Jackson pound some head in the stands – that’s someone I’d want on my side in a tough situation. Just sayin’, not condoning fighting or anything like that.

  • tavoris

Is West even taking his meds? Geez

  • $am

I always liked Von Wafer. Very entertaining dunker, hope he sticks. Enough of this Delonte dumb-ass already, he should join Iverson in Turkey or some other washed-up European league.

  • http://www.twitter.com/jtrain73 Jono

    West you inbred scum.

  • tranesonic

West thought it was Wafer who made the anonymus comment,”It is easy to tell if Delonte West has not taken his medicine.”

That is why West was trying to get Wafer to swing on him with the rough play. You don’t make comments like that about teammates.

  • tranesonic

so yeah, inbred scumbag may be a little over the top :P

  • http://slammagazine Cameron P

Maybe he should take his talent to south beach, d-wade not having it though. Chicago cats can fight lol
