Report: Delonte West, Von Wafer in Fist-Fight (UPDATE)

UPDATE: Chris Mannix of Sports Illustrated tweeted Friday afternoon that the Celtics are leaning towards keeping West despite the altercation earlier today.

Delonte West’s time in Boston may be short. West is already serving a 10-game suspension because of weapons charges, and on Friday his situation got worse. Alex Kennedy of HOOPSWORLD reports that West and teammate Von Wafer got into a fight today after practice: “After another intense three-on-three game in practice today, Delonte West and Von Wafer got into a fist fight in the locker room. Punches were thrown and the players had to be separated. The Celtics are considering releasing West, who is on a non-guaranteed contract. Sources say that Wafer tried to walk away but West followed him into the locker room and threw the first punch. Doc and vets aren’t happy.”

This is exactly why I didn’t want this dude on my Celtics; we have plenty of talent on the wings already without needing his locker room presence. Please, PLEASE get rid of this guy.

Delonte sounds like he’s tough as nails, which you want coming off your bench, but he’s just as likely to strike at his own teammate as he is the other team. The C’s have to cut this guy loose – he’s not going to change, period. I think the C’s were hoping he could keep it together long enough to use him to get inside Lebron’s head during the playoffs, but it doesn’t look like that’ll happen.

@Tarzan Cooper: Who did Artest punch? Big Ben Wallace? I recall him backing down to Big Ben, and sitting on the scorers table. In fact the Pacers I remember connecting with punches were Stephen Jackson and Jermaine O’Neal, while Artest was mainly just standing in a sea of fans looking for who hit him with the beer cup. As for my comments, I’d say Delonte West right now is a lot like Artest in the past, and I say in the past, because Artest has obviously changed as a man. Maybe Delonte can get his head on straight too. Time will tell.

    Excuse my “career ender” comment.
Shout out to Wafer still stands.

And, Artest did connect a couple times.

@Philosopher: Bottom line, Artest backed down like a scared little boy when Big Ben Wallace confronted him after that hard foul. As for Artest punching fans, I don’t recall that, or I must misremember, however, I do remember seeing Stephen Jackson pound some head in the stands – that’s someone I’d want on my side in a tough situation. Just sayin’, not condoning fighting or anything like that.

Is West even taking his meds? Geez

I always liked Von Wafer. Very entertaining dunker, hope he sticks. Enough of this Delonte dumb-ass already, he should join Iverson in Turkey or some other washed-up European league.

    West you inbred scum.

  • tranesonic

West thought it was Wafer who made the anonymus comment,”It is easy to tell if Delonte West has not taken his medicine.”

That is why West was trying to get Wafer to swing on him with the rough play. You don’t make comments like that about teammates.

  • tranesonic

so yeah, inbred scumbag may be a little over the top :P
