Report: Rockets to Sign Erick Dampier

According to Hoopsworld, Houston has found another large and serviceable body to keep Yao Ming’s spot in the paint warm for him: “The Houston Rockets have long been in pursuit of one more big man to shore up their front line and add additional insurance in the event of another injury to Yao Ming, and now, according to sources close to the situation, the Rockets have found their man. Houston has been just one of many teams interested in signing free agent center Erick Dampier, and Hoopsworld has learned that they are now going to ultimately win his services. The former Dallas Mavericks center has been pursued by a number of team, including the Miami Heat, Milwaukee Bucks, Portland Trail Blazers and Phoenix Suns, but the Rockets offered the best financial package, as well as a shot at being a part of a potentially-contending team.”

They have an even sicker center rotation now. Yao/Miller/Hayes/Dampier. If they stay just relatively healthy there, they should be more than ok at the 5.

If Yao was post injury Yao, this Rocket team would contend. I still don’t think they have enough to get past the Lakers….but they can put a scare into them. OKC, the Spurs and the Rockets are all just a Laker injury away from having the West become wide open.

Erick Dampier is a poor excuse for a basketball player

*should have said PRE injury Yao.

I trust Riles but I’m not really sure why they passed on Damp. He lives in MIA, wanted to play for the team, was willing to take the vet min and worked out for them. Did he want a guaranteed starting spot? Tonight is a big game for Joel Anthony, if can contain Dwight (18-20 pts) then that’s fine. But if Dwight goes off (30 pts), Joel gotta go.

Miami should have signed him. Big mistake. The Heat will get beat around by the Celtics, Magic, Lakers and now, the Rockets. If the Rockets stay healthy, they will have at least a four seed in the West.

he should sign with OKC, that would be perfect.

Miami should’ve jumped on this guy after that Boston game. Damp is OKC would look pretty good too, but it would take away time from Ibaka and Aldrich…

nah he could be a backup center behind aldrich like a role player, his leadership would help them improve.
