Ron Artest’s Rankings: 1) Kobe, 2) Durant

Tru Warier says his teammate and the guy in Oklahoma are the two top dogs in the NBA. No mention of LeBron. Controversy! Sigh … ESPN has the quotes: “If you ask the Los Angeles Lakers’ Ron Artest, the biggest NBA signing of the summer wasn’t LeBron James leaving Cleveland to go to Miami as a free agent; it was Kevin Durant extending his contract with the Thunder to stay in Oklahoma City. ‘He’s the second best player in the NBA,’ Artest said of Durant, ranking the youngest scoring champion in league history behind only teammate Kobe Bryant. ‘Kobe’s got five rings, six game winners [last season], 23-straight points in [Game 5 of the Finals] off mostly jump shots,’ Artest elaborated. ‘[He's] the biggest shot maker, big shot maker. So, that said, Durant’s the second best player in the NBA.’ When asked where James ranks on his list, Artest excluded the back-to-back MVP from consideration. ‘I only count to two,’ Artest said. ‘I’ve been out of school 15 years, so I only count to two.’”

thats stupid he must have grudge on lbj but durant is not a number 2 player the two best players in the league right now is kb24 and lbj but durant is 3

  • sample

    say queensbridge!

  • http://www.slamonline.com jumpman3224

Did Ron-Ron get to vote in the SLAM top 50 this summer?

  • http://www.threadsandkicks.com.au/ Eduardo

Hahahaha got to have personalities like Artest in the league. He’s the Rodman of this era, excluding the rebounds of course.

  • http://www.slamonline.com James the Balla

    Awesome lol.

  • michael

thanks for clearing it up smooth, you would definitely know better than a guy who ACTUALLY PLAYS AGAINST THEM

  • VisionofGreatness

Hey, he’s guarded both of them. Who are we to discount his statement and none of us have stepped on a floor with either one? Think about it. Kevin is more unpredictable. You know with LeBron, it’s a jumpshot or he’s driving to the basket. No post moves. Something to think about.

  • http://www.slamonline.com Eboy

Let’s see…..Durant was shut down by Artest in the playoffs last season. When he’s played against Bron (especially the two games against the Cavs last year) Bron worked Ron like a 2 dollar whore. Jealousy is cute. Hate is weird.

    LONG….LIVE…..THE KING!!!!!!

  • http://www.slamonline.com Eboy

    It’s Friday….let’s have fun!!!!!

  • Nick the Quick

We all have biased opinions on this subject. Whether right or wrong in your eyes, why can’t Ron Artest have his own biased opinion on this? Not everyone here will ever agree with who’s # 1. Clearly, if you’re a Miami(Lebron) fan, you would quickly think Ron’s an idiot for not even mentioning Lebron. Why does he have to? It’s his own opinion!

  • Dagger

Didn’t Artest say Roy was the best player he’s ever defended? This guy is a bit crazy, if you haven’t heard . . . .

  • http://www.slamonline.com J

So where does he rank Brandon “toughest guy I guarded ever” Roy? Hmm.. Since he says he only counts to two, maybe at 1.5??

  • http://twitter.com/HarryByrdMan44 LA Huey

Haha. I actually look forward to Xmas this year for basketball more than anything.

  • JD

i expect Bron to dunk on his ass when the Heat meets the Lakers

  • T-Money

As Eboy pointed out, considering he shut down KD and got torched by LBJ… I almost feel bad for KD now, he’s just a prop to get at Bron these days. / The biggest signing of the summer is KD extending? If you scared, say you scared.

  • T-Money

When informed by a member of the media that Durant actually shot well below his normal percentage in the first round of the playoffs with Artest marking him primarily (35 percent in the postseason vs. 47.6 percent during the regular season), Artest acted surprised. “Wow … good job, Ron,” he said. — Come on now, like he didn’t know that.

  • Shadojoker

I’m a big fan of Ron-ron.but when Lebron sees this..he’s gonna want to drop 50pts(fiddy) on his head! lmao..pure hilarity!

  • JStar

all of you are just on LBJs ****…. maybe we should consider believing ron… he’s only played against each of them numerous times…

  • Robb

lol I love Ron. KD is not there yet. Yeah VisionofGreatness probably Lebron is more predictable when he’s going for the basket, but he’s goy other abiities. KD is a great scorer, but LBJ is more well rounded. Better defense, better court vision and he can definitely score. KD’s becoming the best offensive player but James will remain a better all around player. Ron’s talking from the perspective of a defensive player who has defended these two, but Lebron’s better, even haters like myself have to agree.

  • JStar

and you all are def crazy if you think RON ARTEST is afraid of ANYBODY…. Ron will be going back to the club after this season 2

  • The Philosopher

    Ron’s afraid of Ben Wallace…

  • http://yahoo.com eboyhater

eboy get off the king sack

  • hfgdfdggfdgfd

    1. lebron 2. wade 3. kobe ……….8. durant

  • T-Money

JStar: We’ve seen him play vs both. We’ve seen him shut down one and got maimed by the other…So yeah…

  • http://screwjams.tumblr.com cramzy

lebron just updated his mental notes

  • Reflex

Can’t believe people are catching feelings over this, he’s obviously not gonna give props to Lebron as he’s a direct competitor! What’s American for banter?

  • http://stapledesign.com Spaceship Jay

Ooooohhhhh! You gonna let him say that about you yo? You should show up to the arena and win against his team! Jeez.

  • james

Now that lebron is on the Heat, expect major dikriding from Eboy

  • http://www.slamonline.com Eboy

Riding it all the way to numerous title wins, b*tch!

  • http://www.slamonline.com Eboy

You can choke on the nuts, if you’d like.

  • t-sizzle

@Eboy Oct.15 at 11:49 am, Woah one of the most disgusting-est things I’ve heard ever. Respects for staying with your team, but you coulda said things better lol!

  • http://stapledesign.com Spaceship Jay

Haha, you can’t really be mad at Eboy. He’s the only dude I know that actually rode with the Heat before all of this… Actually I congratulate him. Sometimes I agree with him, sometimes I don’t… To post your name as a hater of another Slam blogger, now that’s some weird stuff homie.

  • KB8toSG8

That’s so wrong LOL. Yet so awesome. You rock Ron-Ron! :D

  • http://www.slamonline.com Eboy

t-sizzle, I’m just having fun, brother, it’s Friday, the weather’s beautiful here and the season is just days away.

  • http://slamonline.com Allenp

The more shots people take at the Heat, the more excited I get about the upcoming season.
It’s going to be really epic if Lebron, Wade and Bosh can stay healthy. They are going to be pissed beyond belief. Pissed LeBron is an exciting thing.

  • http://nicekicks.com meloman2.0

Coming from the same guy who said Brandon Roy was better than Kobe… before he decided to be kobes lap dog

  • Michael Whyte

Eboy said it best. Lebron has, on numerous occasions wiped the floor with Rons ugly face. Lebron is stronger than Ron and dominates him like noone else can. I think it annoys Ron. Anyway you’re allowed to voice your opinion, everyone just knows your an idiot. Stick to promoting mental health, you might benefit from it one day.

  • T-Money

Allen: I did sense a more serious, methodical, almost somber approach from Bron during the preseason. He was trying to go THROUGH people on the low block. Nice.

  • t-sizzle

For sure E, I hear you. Work must be a bore, especially on Fridays. At least you’ve got the good weather down in Miami, not like up here in Canada. Another reason why I’m not surprised Lebron took up residence there lol. Also funny how you got a hater. Even Lebron’s fan’s got haters

  • http://www.bulls.com Enigmatic

I love Durant, absolutley love the kid, but come on now Ron. In my opinion, it goes 1) Kobe, 2) LeBron, 3) Wade, 4)Durant.

  • MichaelWhyte11

    COMPLETELY agree with ^^^
Ron got owned by LBJ last season. Lebron is too strong for Ron and it annoys him. Lebron my favourite but Kobe gets his due at 1. Lebron is clearly 2.

  • Bruno

ron better watch out cause lebron takes mental notes of everyone hahaha … queensbridge!!!

  • http://www.slamonline.com/ niQ

Lol meloman I was going to say something similar but ah wells. too late.

  • MichaelWhyte11

Jstar you fail. Ron played well against KD. Lebron owned Ron. Everything Ron says is legit because over time he has proved to be an honest and respectable NBA player (insert sarcasm)

  • Mvp23100

Time to go see the shrink again I see

  • JTaylor21

Looks like Artest be on that LA LA. See everyone loves KD now but give it 4-5 years and after his team hasn’t won a DAMN thang, the hate will begin to rise. People expect him to turn into MJ 2.0 (Dude should worry about being better than Melo first) and the thunders to all of a sudden go from 50 wins to a chip so quick well it ain’t happening. KD keep up the acting job of being the NBA new darling but remember they build you up to tear you down.

  • Mvp23100

And is their really people in 2010 that still argue 24 is a better player than bron everybody can’t be watching the same games FAKERS were the best team last year but Kobe has peaked and is rolling down the other side of the hill now

  • http://www.bulls.com Enigmatic

Completely off-topic, but since as Eboy pointed out it’s Friday – thinking about getting NBA League Pass cause I only get the nationally televised games up here in Alaska. Any thought from people who’d had it??

  • http://slamonline.com Brad Long

How can you not love this guy?

  • JTaylor21

Enigmatic, trust when I say it’s like heaven on earth. I mean you get to see almost every single game from every team (except for national televised games and regional blackout but I doubt you would have any prob with that in Alaska). Also if you missed to game due to unseen circumstances, they show the game all night long until about 12:00 AM the next day. It is well worth the price and I’m thinking about getting the Broadband one for my computer because I mostly work and go to school at night. The one BIG problem would be deciding on which game to focus on because there will be so many showing at the same time.

  • MichaelWhyte11

while on the subject of league pass does anyone know if i can get it in Australia??? I have looked it up but i’m getting unreliable results

  • LakeShow

    Enigmatic** DO IT!!

  • http://www.bulls.com Enigmatic

Thanks for the info JTaylor. I think what’s gonna be the deciding factor for me is whether or not I can record games on a DVR. Most games start while I’m still as work here (four hour difference between here and NY). I did the math and after all the nationally televised Bulls games I would only be able to watch 22 out of their 82 games without League Pass. Hell to the no, son!

  • http://www.need4sheed.com Tarzan Cooper

Nba LEAGUE pass. League PASS? It is that shtt, well worth it.

  • JTaylor21

Enigmatic, YES you can record it on DVR but you gotta to watch it as soon as you got time because they pile up quickly given that teams play like every other day and back-to-backs. @MichaelWhyte11, have you tried getting League Pass Broadband if you have a computer? The quality is just as good if not better than watching it on TV.

  • http://www.bulls.com Enigmatic

    F*ck the bullsh*t, I’m sold!

  • MichaelWhyte11

thanks JT i havent tried but im going to do it. i’ve heard it cuts out because of the distance. it’s worth the risk because we only see about 2 games a week in AUS. And this season is going to be memorable.

  • t-sizzle

NBA League Pass on the computer has an archive of ALL past games. You won’t miss a single thing again! Only problem is that it absolutely might consume your time haha

  • http://www.bulls.com Enigmatic

Co-sign MichaelWhyte11, this season is gonna be INSANE. The Heat’s big three are gonna be hella fun to watch. Can’t wait to watch the rookies, especially Wall, Griffin and Big Cuz. And my Bulls, of course.

  • MichaelWhyte11

agreed about the heat and the rookies. Blake Griffin and John Wall look really good. I’m a big rap for griffin. also excited to see the progression of steph curry and tyreke. And of course i hope our own Andrew Bogut can stay healthy cos he was balling before the injury.

  • Michael

People of course K Durant is the 2nd best player on the planet right now after Kobe..Did you watch what he just did in the World Championships last month. He DOMINATED against the world

  • http://www.bulls.com Enigmatic

Michael, and if you take out Durant and put LeBron in that lineup, and Coach K told LeBron to just go out and get his like he told KD, what do you think would’ve happened? LeBron woulda not only smashed cats left and right with his scoring, he probably would’ve averaged close to a triple-double as well.

  • MichaelWhyte11

KD performed so well in world championships because Lebron, Kobe, Wade, Melo etc didnt play

  • Yesse

Hahaha this is funny. I think Kobe is the best and he will compete with Durant big time next season. The reason why Ron counts out LeBron is, that it is very hard for him to defend LeBron.

  • peter

ya didn’t he say roy in the beginning?

  • VisionofGreatness

LeBron can take all the mental notes he wants. There’s no way he can play better than he did in the 08-09 season. He won’t grow anymore as a player. So what’s he going to do? He’s going to use his frustration to make better passes? lol. He won’t be scoring 40 or 50 with Wade and Bosh as teammates so what does it matter?
Durant played well during the World Championships because he’s a good player. Regardless of who his teammates were, he would have still played well.

  • http://google c_cantrell

eboy no one wants to read that immature sick crap so shut up

  • Conoro

This will ultimately result in an overload of Karma buildup for the Heat. You can see it happening already with the weird injuries that don’t often happen…/A healthy Lakers team THIS SEASON is much, much, much more talented overall than Miami. Who’s Bosh? Gasol is better. Wade and Bryant cancel one another out while LeBron is obviously too much for Artest to handle all game, but there is a stark contrast between a comfortable, relaxed Artest and a hyped, wound-up one. Should Miami and Los Angeles make the Finals this year, all of you loudmouths will see once again and crawl back to your designated caves. Again.

  • Conoro

Lakers’ bench and coaching: Infinitely better than the Heat’s. Inarguable.

  • http://idunkonthem.blogspot.com/ albie1kenobi

for those interested in the league pass from overseas, check nba.com to see if your internet service provider carries it. I had an account in US and offered my screen name and password to my dad (who was overseas) to watch the games, but nba.com denied access (i assume because it recognize the IP address is not in the States). as several people attested to already, the league pass broadband trumps the tv version because you have an archive to watch games that you missed live.

  • http://brimartin13@gmail.com Brion

Im excited for the pissed off Lebron this year as opposed to the happy dancing around Lebron. Playing w/ a chip on his shoulder is gonna elevate his game.

  • RealTalk

It’s easy for Ron to say Durant is # 2 because you have have to face him 4 times this year. I’m trying to figure out why everybody is hating on Lebron all of a sudden. He didn’t do the cavs wrong, he gave them 7 great years without any help. Damn, why so many haters. The Heat win will it all this coming season..with Lebron bringing in his 3rd MVP. Keep in mind, his not a one-dimensional.. he’s an all around player. This year he has good teammates.

  • T-Money

Vision of Greatness: “LeBron can take all the mental notes he wants. There’s no way he can play better than he did in the 08-09 season. He won’t grow anymore as a player.” That’s a bold and definitive statement. Considering that players usually peak at around 28-29 and that his midrange jumpshot and post moves are not quite there yet… what makes you believe that Bron can’t improve?

  • VisionofGreatness

If his post moves haven’t improved while he’s been on his own in 7 seasons, why would they improve now especially when he has an elite post player to play with in Bosh?
@RealTalk LeBron nor Wade will be winning an MVP while they play together. That alone cancels them both out. The award will go to Durant if the Thunder get a number two or three seed or Bryant when the Lakers get the number one seed. And LeBron did the Cavs wrong by not letting Gilbert or someone in the organization know that he was leaving. Everyone should be able to agree that that was the wrong move after playing there for 7 seasons and them promoting him the way that they did. Under normal circumstances, a normal free agent wouldn’t need to do such a thing but when you’re someone of LeBron’s stature in the city and on the team, you let someone know that you’re not returning.

  • http://www.slamonline.com J

Put Melo in place of KD, and they’d still win gold in WBC.

  • mubwar

Enough talk Ron, action speaks louder then words

  • http://www.kb24.com The Seed

I agree to disagree. BOOK IT!!

  • T-Money

VisionofGreatness: Because that’s what happened to Kobe and Michael and countless other wings. Their post games kept on improving even into their early thirties. And is there some kind of rule that I’m not aware of that prevents teams from having two post up options? Part of Bron’s improvement in the post is simply committing to it. And he seems to want to get busy down there this year. I really don’t understand your rationale in saying that Bron “can’t” improve anymore.

  • Elvis Freshly

@ Smooth… how in the blue h3ll is Kevin number 3? .. you put Kevin ahead of Wade?.. explain yourself!

  • VisionofGreatness

@T-Money Michael and Kobe had always been skilled players. LeBron’s mindset is just to use his power all the time. He relies more on pure strength.

  • http://www.rich-imaging.com Dutch Rich

There’s an old Queensbridge adage that goes; your only as good as the last jewels you bagged.

  • ylc

We know Ron’s EQ is not good but now he shows his IQ is even lower.
love & patient need to be shown for that kind of person.

  • enigmatichater

thats stupid lebron would not do that shut your stupid face

  • rich

ppl realy discount wade just because some durunt had a good year. dwayne wade is one of the at least top 5 slashers of all time get a clue people.

  • flash

    dont sleep on dwyane wade!

  • T-Money

vision: i’ll stop right there, you still havent given me a good explanation as to why bron cant improve anymore. you dont have one. kthxbye

  • Justin

JTaylor, nobody expects Durant to be like MJ. That’s left for Kobe. Just because they both score doesn’t mean people are making comparisons. Man, do you think before you type this stuff?

  • Jacob (from Australia)

What happened between last season and this one coming that suddenly changed everything? I highly doubt LeBron has become worse. Kobe won a championship sure, but he didn’t seem any more dominant than the year before (see 6-24). And then we have Durant. Yep, he won a gold medal but was he really a level above his previous OKC self? I dunno, but I expect the same 1. LJ 2. KB 3. KD ranking 25-30 games into the season.

  • KB8toSG8

LeBron has troubled Artest more than KD. But highlighting last year’s games are wrong. Ron had bad feet. And bad feet would mean he wouldn’t be laterally quick enough to cut LeBron’s paths. But this is still wrong lol. :D @Jacob….stop highlighting only game 7. KB set the court ablaze in game 5 3rd quarter. The team however didn’t feel like supporting him that match though… :(

  • KB8toSG8

@JTaylor……MJ and KD aren’t even of the same build LOL….kinda like the reason why MJ vs LeBron didn’t have any steam

  • EJ

Lets see how Lebron will respond. If he can come out big against the Lakers then he’ll get some of my lost respect towards him back.

  • VisionofGreatness

I provided a perfect explanation, not my fault that you’re so much in love with LeBron that you can’t accept it. He’s purely a power player, not really any finesse in his game.

Hakeem was a power player when he came in the league. just noting.
