Stephen Curry Sets His Goals

There’s all kinds of pressure on the young sharpshooter, but Curry tells the Mercury News that he’s the one with the biggest expectations: “The expectations have significantly increased for Warriors guard Stephen Curry after his lauded rookie campaign. He was selected to play for Team USA. He has been branded by team management as the untouchable centerpiece of the franchise. And, though he is only 22, he is being relied upon for his leadership. Curry said the expectations don’t faze him because he has some for himself. ‘I want to be top 10 in the league in assists,’ he said. ‘I want to lead the league in steals and average five rebounds.’ Certainly, people have reason to believe in Curry, the No. 7 pick in the 2009 draft. He improved exponentially last season. Presuming the team’s good health, he will have more talent around him. And, it stands to reason that his Team USA experience this past summer will reap benefits. ‘He’s the point guard of this team,’ general manager Larry Riley said earlier this summer. ‘You don’t build your team around a (shooting) guard, you build your team around a point guard.’ After starting the season as a reserve, Curry was well on his way to averaging 36.6 minutes per game. He finished with gaudy averages: 17.5 points, 5.9 assists, 4.5 rebounds and 1.9 steals.”

If you don’t build around a 2 guard what were you doing with Monta a couple years ago? Good goals, add staying away from mopeds to the list!

Now these are goals I can support for the young cat!!!!

  • James

‘You don’t build your team around a (shooting) guard.’ Tell that to MJ. The Lakers and Kobe, Dwayne Wade and the Miami Heat, Brandon Roy and the Trailblazers. Ridiculous.

What kind of goals are they…? he basically wants his assists to rise from 5.9 to 7.0, his rebounds to increase by HALF a percentage point and his steal numbers to from 1.9 to..what…2.7? These don’t seem to be particularly fruitful goals…. I mean the GM wants to build the ENTIRE team around him and he wants to average an extra assist a game?

@Dacre it’s like Lebrons triple double, don’t say it and if it doesn’t happen you don’t look bad. If it does you’re exceding your own expectations.

@Dacre: not half a percent. wtf are you talking about? but the “Half a percentage point” (lmao) u refer to is just about 41 more pulls a game. These are respectable goals.

You don’t build a team around a shooting guard? Um the best team ever was built around a shooting guard, and the most succesful team in the last decade was built around a shooting guard, and Shaq of course.

James- Maybe Riley hints that they’re done with Monta. Like they’re not building around him anymore.
