Terrence Williams: ‘I’d Be Happy To Be In Jersey For The Rest Of My Life’

On Tuesday afternoon, the New Jersey Nets exercised their third-year option on Terrence Williams. Eight hours later, the sophomore wing expressed his appreciation.

“I feel good [about it],” Williams said in the visitor’s locker room at Madison Square Garden, shortly after dropping a preseason game to the New York Knicks, 117-111. “It shows you the faith they have in you as a player and the trust that they’re putting into you, so I definitely appreciate that.”

In the Nets second to last game of the preseason, that trust was rewarded with a promising if a bit uneven 27 minute, 15 point, 5 turnover, 4 assist performance from Williams.

“I had too many careless turnovers,” the Seattleite acknowledged. “But, other than my turnovers, I think I’m doing a solid job on defense and as far as trying to find guys, and score points when we need it.”

Only a summer removed from a 12-win rookie season, Williams is now happy to be a Net, and hopes to stay one for a while.

“I’d be happy to be in Jersey for the rest of my life,” said the 11th overall pick in the 2009 NBA Draft. “There’s no point in going nowhere. I like everything that’s around here. I like the direction our team’s going.”

You can assume that means he’d be happy in Brooklyn–if the team ever actually moves there–as well.

    I vividly remember hoping the Raptors would draft him over DeRozan. Tough D, hits the boards, solid teammate. Maybe he’ll never be a top tier player, but I bet he has a solid career as a guy that every team would love to have.

    He actually plays a little like a poor man’s LeBron. I’m not saying he could be like LeBron, but same style. If he keeps his turnovers down and won’t get too jumpshot-happy, he could have a great season.

    Yessir, I’m with the majority on Terence Williams. Love the man’s game, and definitely see him becoming one of those players that can play a significant part in a team contending.

    I don’t think I caught a single Nets game last season, as they were awful and weren’t on TV much, if at all. Knowledgeable heads are talking up his game. Why hasn’t he been discussed in any Melo swaps?

    Bc the nets dont want to, or need to, give him away for Melo. I’m a nets fan and watched a lot of their games last season. Twill killed it over the last few months. Triple double threat every night. His highlights are the dunks, but dude has a very keen passing eye and drops at last one “wow” dime every game.

    p.s Wang, Jersey is a sewer? where are you from buddy? i’ve traveled all over the USA and while jersey is certainly not the best, it is far, far from the worst. it’s a sewer is always top2 in INCOME every year (back n forth with Connecticut).. u just bitter cuz you can’t afford to live here.
