Agent: No Truth to Zach Randolph-to-Pistons Rumors

Z-Bo‘s rep tells the Commercial Appeal that, despite no contract extension from the Grizzlies, the big fella is happy in Memphis and doesn’t want to play in Motown: “We’re staying in touch but there’s nothing new to report,’ Griz general manager Chris Wallace said when asked if there was any progress with Randolph’s contract situation. However, an SI.com article Tuesday cited an NBA source in saying Randolph is frustrated about not receiving an offer. The report implied that Randolph wanted out of Memphis with Detroit as a preferred destination. SI.com wrote: ‘If the Grizzlies are looking to deal (Randolph), multiple sources say Randolph’s preferred destination is Detroit, where he would fill the gaping hole in the Pistons’ frontcourt.’ Raymond Brothers, Randolph’s agent, confirmed that he has had no formal contract talks with the Griz but refuted SI.com’s assertions. ‘There’s no truth to that rumor,’ Brothers said. ‘All Zach needs is a basketball and a court to play on to be happy. Zach’s happy. That’s nonsense.’ What’s real is how far apart Randolph and the Grizzlies will be if and when they do enter negotiations. Randolph said last season that he wants a contract extension similar to what Los Angeles Lakers forward Pau Gasol signed. Gasol, a former Grizzly, inked a three-year deal that could be worth up to $64.7 million.”
