Carmelo Anthony Defends His Nightly Effort

Kenny Smith and Sir Charles went in on ‘Melo last week, questioning his effort this season, but Anthony and his coach say those two have no clue what they’re talking about. From the Denver Post: “I personally think Melo is having an all-star season,’ [George Karl] said. ‘I know it’s a difficult year for him mentally in some ways, but in general you’ve got to give Melo a good grade for what he’s done so far this year. I personally don’t think Kenny and Charles watch all of our games. I don’t think they’re staying up and watching Melo play.’ Anthony, who has said repeatedly he’s keeping his options open regarding signing a contract extension with the Nuggets, is fourth in the league in scoring at 25.4 points per game and is averaging career highs in the hustle stats of rebounds (9.1) and steals (1.50) … ‘I think they might be the only two people that say I don’t play hard,’ Anthony said. ‘How can you say that? I go out there hard every night. But I don’t pay those guys no mind. I know what I’m doing. Everybody sees what I’m doing. I come out and play as hard as I can every night. It just so happens that the game that I didn’t play well was on TNT. We didn’t play well, we lost. They needed something to say.’”

Carmelo is 100% right, he’s playing well and playing hard. Scoring is down because of the options they have and the emergence of Affalo. Denver will be at or near the 4 seed come the end of the season (If Melo is still there).

Carmelo Anthony needs to realize Kenny Smith is a North Carolina guy, just like George Karl. I even heard Kenny Smith running his big mouth about Karl taking away Carmelo Anthony’s minutes on NBA GameTime over at NBA TV when the season got underway – btw, thank god NBA TV got someone REAL like Greg Anthony. The fact is Carmelo has been giving the Denver Nuggets 100% his entire career. It seems to me Kenny Smith is playing the “bad cop” role while George Karl plays “good cop” role – Kenny Smith slams Melo’s effort, and Karl defends him in hopes these mind games will get Carmelo to sign the extension because Karl somehow had Melo’s back. lol…If I’m Melo I don’t even respond to that ish, because fraudulent claims like that don’t even deserve a response. The only one who came off the least bit credible was Charles Barkley, but it’s not just because of Melo’s situation; look at the entire core of the Nuggets, they all could be a free agent next summer, including the coach. Why would Melo commit his future to a team with so many question marks? That would be a BAD business decision on his part.

No one pays attention to what fatmansccop Barkley or Kenny has to say. Melo is on fire this year. He is giving me a big boost in fantasy bball.

@BK Chris – If you just came to the arena after spending your day around this: http://www.celebritydietdoctor.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/07/la-la-vasquez.jpg, you’d be going out hard every night too.
