D’Antoni: “[Amar'e's] Trying To Do A Little Too Much”

The Knicks have looked decent in their first three games, though STAT’s turnovers (5.7 a game) are a little eye-popping. Newsday reports coach D’Antoni thinks he knows what’s going on. “Although it’s far too small a sample size to read too much into any one statistic, coach Mike D’Antoni still needed to check in with the Knicks ‘ prize acquisition regarding his turnovers. ‘I think he’s trying to do a little too much,’ D’Antoni said. ‘We talked about it. Just slow it down a bit. Just take your time knowing that guys are going to converge on you and become a little bit more of a playmaker. I think he knows that.’ Part of the problem has been the Knicks’ inability to consistently knock down shots, particularly Danilo Gallinari, who is 2-for-11 from three-point range. That’s made it far too appealing for defenses to focus on Stoudemire and take their chances with everyone on the perimeter. ‘We’ve got to get guys to knock down shots like crazy because that will deviate a lot of the pressure he’s getting,’ D’Antoni said of Stoudemire. ‘Right now, they don’t have a whole lot of fear leaving some of our wings, and we’ve got to instill that fear in them.’”

Amare added; maybe you should try implementing a “little” defense into the gameplan.

This has nothing to do with Nash, who is probably wondering where the hell Amare is right now himself.

How about giving Toney Douglas more minutes?!

Yeah, Amare’s turnovers go up while Nash’s assists skyrocket down. Stupid comment by Dubli.

@Captain Hindsight – for the last time, Cavs offered JJ in the deal, Suns were hesitant throughout the entire process and in the end didn’t want to deal.

He’s trying to do too much = this dude actually cares about the team, the fans, and his contract! And he has found out that the Knicks are a pretty bad bunch, and he’s trying to play harder, to cover up everyone else, and get W’s. It’s tough without Nash, and he senses that. But i give him a huge amount of credit for being all heart, and trying to do more stuff. Maybe he’s getting turnovers, but what do you expect? he’s being crowded, and he isn’t exactly Kobe when it comes to ball-handling. I have great respect for A’mare, and i’m sure Knicks fans will love him!

Knicks should focus on developing dudes like Wilson Chandler and Toney Douglas- i.e. give them better roles with more minutes…i don’t know how they keep these two dudes off the court… Landry fields has talent but he’s a rook and not better than Chandler… Douglas seems to be dynamic, almost a force at times when they put him in- so why does he only average 27 minutes a game and come off the bench? Their best lineup seems to be some combination of Douglas, Chandler, Turiaf, Felton, and obviously Amar’e! with an apostrophe…POW!
