DeMarcus Cousins Happy to Come off the Bench

Despite the local media’s anticipation of a much juicier story when this was announced, Cousins graciously accepted his coach’s decision to bring him off the pine. The Sac Bee reports: “DeMarcus Cousins only looked as if he wanted to throw a punch when his coach announced plans to move veteran Samuel Dalembert into the starting lineup. The big rookie stepped aside graciously, and in fact, appeared almost a little relieved. ‘I thought it was a great idea,’ Cousins said Thursday after Kings practice. ‘I think it will really help the team … because I’m still learning. Coming in off the bench, I can how see how the game is, I can learn how aggressive to be and not be. I get the feel of the game a lot better.’ So, like we said. So much for a starting center controversy. This was the plan long before the team gathered for training camp: Dalembert starting and anchoring the defense. Cousins, the immensely talented but foul-plagued first-round draft choice, initially sitting and watching and learning. The 6-foot-11, 270-pound youngster entering the game late in the first quarter and playing approximately 30 minutes instead of his current 22.6.”

    Even he knew this was coming. No big deal. Dalembert has been starting for years. This will work out into a good center tandem.

    1st! D cousins has impressed me so far. He had good moments against gasol the other night. He says he wants to patent his game after him. Wouldn’t b a bad idea. He def got more post moves than d howard already lol

    he has disappointed me in a way.. but i guess we have to be patient since he is still learning.. he is a beast down low put hes jus not puttin up the numbers i thought he would

    Great comment for a rookie. I’m sure some people will have a problem with his attitude even though those same people critisized him for having a bad attitude.

    I like the big rotation with Dalembert-Landry and Cousins-Thompson off the bench. Oh, and Donté Greene is going to be out of the league in less than two years if he doesn’t find a way to get to the hoop. Casspi is soooo much better than him, it’s kinda crazy to think that the SF job was in flux.

    That was the funny part about some of the attitude rap he was getting pre-draft.
    It was much more about him being a little “different” than the rest and i took it in a good way. He was more opinionated and thoughtful than the canned responses that 99% of the potential draftees gave.

    That is also part of why “we”(Minny TWolves) selected him with the 4th pick in the SLAMonline Mock Draft. I also had him as #1a) on my draft board, though.

    Darnell Jackson isn’t too bad either, definitely not a scrub anymore.

    Love cousins. Happy to hear he’s accepting whatever role is brought upon him. He’ll be a starter in this league for a long time to come

    I’m definitely rooting for this guy, and I was pretty impressed by some of the moves he showed against Gasol the other night. It wasn’t a spectacular performance by any standard, but there were flashes. With him and Evans – if Cousin’s can keep his head on tight – man, look out in a few years.

    way to go DeMarcus

    its better for him and he knows it.
    he gets 2 fouls in the first minute of EVERY game and has to sit on the bench for long stretches this allows him to come into the game later and hopefully not pick up such fouls.

    @c_Cantrell. i agree fully i that respect, but on draft night it was his maturity that was called into question most often and he has blown apart that speculation. he will be a beast with some learning, which he has shown he’s willing to do

    @majic… what?

    This will only last as long as Favors is also not starting in NJ. As soon as he does, you can forget about Cuzz being nice about this.
