Dwight on 5th Tech: ‘I Don’t Know What To Do’

Will David Stern’s emotional lockdown ultimately take away from players’ games? From the Orlando Sentinel: “Indeed, Howard made an oath this year to behave himself toward the referees. The NBA’s plan to crack down on technicals has been carried out, and Howard is gaining technicals at a quicker rate than last season. The thing is, though, Howard is doing his best to be good. And he’s still getting technicals. He has five through eight games. The 16th tech is a one-game suspension, as is the 18th, 20th, 22nd, etc. ‘I don’t know what to do,’ he said. ‘I just gotta try to not say anything ever. Just hold my emotions in. I don’t know.’”

    First, you have to stop breaking the rules. Second, don’t complain when you get caught breaking the rules. Somethings are just too complicated.

    Nate Robinson calmly lifts up his hands and asks his coach what he did, gets a tech. LeBron makes a scrunchy face and yells out “that’s BS”, gets nothing.
    Where consistency doesn’t happen.

    One is Nate Robinson and the other is LeBron, DUHH! Come on Anton you’re better than that.

    ^^^ If Anton’s comment was Nate Robinson lifts his hand….get a tech. Kobe makes a scrunchy face…gets nothing JTaylor would be on his high horse screaming murder and how the average copy-cat injury-faking coat-tail-hanging player named Kobe gets away with it. SLAM where inconsistency.

    Gotta agree with the inconsistency. It’s just pathetic. Last night, Reggie Evans started to move towards the ref and kept talking all the way down the court after he got a foul and he didn’t get a tech. The league is being way too harsh on Dwight, especially when all he does is talk, never uses hand gestures.

    There was the Clippers/Spurs game last week where Blake Griffin bounced the ball to the ref after a timeout was called on the floor and the ref mishandled the ball and it hit him in the chest and he called a T on Blake for throwing the ball at him. It gets really stupid sometimes. Dont rem who was playing last week but a travel was called by the sideline ref and a player walked with the ball and gave it to the other ref by midcourt and they called a tech for showing up the ref who made the call. aargh!

    Why don’t they just stop complaining? really is it that hard to just shut your mouth…sometimes these nba players are annoying always crying about something its pathetic

  • mike

    @juicym
    yes it is really that hard to just shut your mouth , especially when your not allowed to show any physical , or verbal type of expression . If you have ever played competitive sports and cared about it, you would prolly find that holding back emotions is one of the most impossible things to do. I think the new rules are taking away from the players and the game more than its being beneficial. And to some degree feels a little racist. I just see how some people are granted the privelege of being above everyone else, and is so superior that the players cant even talk to them.

    ^^^ Agreed, I understand respecting the refs but one: obviously
    no one likes a game with no passion or emotion and two: yes
    Mr.Referee you do make alot of mistakes so don’t be all offended when you get called on it.

  • flipnoyce

    This stuff about Dwight don’t surprise me at all, he pretend he don’t do anything wrong and intentional but he’s well aware to raise his arms and elbow almost all the time. I love the look in his face when he gets caught and plead his case like he is really superman.

    Once we near the end of the season, we’re almost never gonna see full teams play at all. Stern is a stuck-up egoistic maniac.

  • ClydeSays

    I get that the League wants some respect for the refs and that they want too cut down on the extended complaining. But you have to let a player some some emotion. Calling a tech b/c a guy raises his arms after a foul is b.s. Dwight is a complainer, but 5 techs in 8 games is ridiculous. Sheed’s head would have exploded at some of the dumba$$ calls if he played this season.

  • JuicyM

    @mike
    you’re right i mean that is a good point, its one aspect i didnt think about. So ill give that to you. But i still think to a certain point, these players are going too far. literally, every single foul call, they look completely shocked and in disbelief. that just bothers me a little bit.

  • wilz

    somebody has to lay out a ref

  • KB8toSG8

    Wish Sheed was here. He’d be having atleast 12 techs by now lol. His season’s salary wouldn’t suffice for the fines. Maybe that’s the reason he retired…:P

    Dwight should just keep doing his thing and put the onus on Stern. Is Stern going to sit idly by while one of his superstars sits out game after game due to stupid technical fouls? Dwight can have a night off and rest while still getting paid. Boo yah.

    Doesn’t your country have a ‘freedom of expression’ principle in the amendment?

  • ab40

    When you’re suspended you don’t get paid. I think dwight should make a commercial of about 90 seconds where he asks people what he should do.
