Eddie House: Heat Bored During Meltdown Against Jazz

by Marcel Mutoni / @marcel_mutoni

The most surreal game of this young NBA season took place in Miami last night, with the Jazz emerging as the improbable victors following a wild overtime.

While you may have been going crazy watching it on your couch (or inside the arena), according to Eddie House, the Miami Heat were trying to keep themselves from yawning as they blew a 22-point lead.

From ESPN:

Some losses make sense. Others, particularly after examining the box score from the crime scene on Tuesday, make for migraines. Depending on the players’ perspectives, this was either a Utah robbery or an overwhelming display of Heat charity. And that’s what made the postgame diagnosis from the Heat almost as inexplicable as the manner in which they snatched defeat from those proverbial jaws of victory.

“For whatever reason, I don’t think we had that sense of urgency,” said Heat guard Eddie House, who missed a 3-pointer with 0.4 seconds that would have won the game in overtime. “I think we got up 20 (points) and might have just gotten bored with that process of how we got up 20.”

Huh? So among the reasons the Heat lost was because they simply got bored of winning. James, who notched the first triple-double by a Heat player since Shaquille O’Neal did it four years ago, pinpointed Miami’s demise as a stretch during the close of the third quarter, when Millsap and Williams combined for 26 of Utah’s 30 points and made 11 of 15 shots in the period.

The Miami Heat — who currently sit behind the Cleveland Cavaliers, of all teams, in the standings — have Boston coming to town this Thursday night.

With the bright lights from national television shining down on the most scrutinized team in the NBA, one can only hope that will be enough to keep their interest for 48 minutes.

With the Heat’s lineup why is House taking the game winning shots anyway?

  • Ses

I just find it funny that there are 2 undefeated teams still left in the L and neither is Miami! They should have been watchin what the score was instead of yawning! LOL @ the Heat!

  • Jose

It disapointed me alot, especially since Wade,LBJ, and even Bosh had great games…It was the best games they’ve had individually this season looking at the box score

  • http://www.bulls.com Enigmatic

So…does Jeff Van Gundy and everyone else who thought they’d beat the Bulls’ record in year one still think they’re gonna go 68-6 the rest of the way?

  • http://null.com Reemo

They lost an early season game. Big deal. IF you want to go ahead and crown the Lakers crown the arses. But when they hit a slump I’m goin to talk about them like most of you talk about the Heat

    Haters gonna hate….

  • hoop love

did anyone else notice lebron not making the pass to wade on the break twice in the last quarter? perhaps he is not used to anyone gettin up the floor as quick as him. it also wouldve saved price from that seemingly traumatic foul on jones haha

  • http://slamonline.com Kap

LBJ didn’t have a good game. He was 5-18 from the field forget the triple double. I don’t consider Bosh having 7 rebs a good game either.

  • http://counterkicks.com Q

yeah who made Eddie House the heat team spokesman he shouldn’t be allowed to talk to the press for the rest of the season

  • http://aspov.blogspot.com Cheryl

I got nothing. Inexcusable. I’d put them through a serious workout today if I was coach. There’d be vom!t.

  • unrel

bored?.. what an idiot.. tell that to all the ticket holders that night.. now the big 2.5 is going to have to win big because of eddie’s big mouth.. i hate when the Rotties have to back up the yapping of the yorkies..

  • http://slamonline.com The Black Rick Kamla

there definitely was a lack of urgency out there and Spoelstra’s continuous toggling with rotations didn’t help any…. what else didn’t help any was Millsap turning into superman, I don’t care what you say about Bosh’s defense, he played him exactly how you need to… the guy just couldn’t miss- INCREDIBLE

  • bails1

@ Eddie House- Here’s a thought if you’re so bored why don you practice dribbling. I have seen middle school girls with wayyyyyy better handles than you sir.

  • http://fdsjklf.com Jukai

Lebron and Wade both had great games but made mistakes at the end. That’s really it.
I mean, at the end of the day, Arroyo needs to be out, Chalmers needs to be in, and Big Z needs to be playing clutch minutes instead of Joel Anthony. That’s the bottom line.
I’ve said this since AFTER the first game.
    And it still seems correct.
    Dunno what else to say.

  • dma

I’m calling shenanigans. LeBron and Wade probably hate playing for Spoelstra and are throwing games until Riles takes over. The press would eat that up. I fell asleep when they were up 20 and woke up to them down 6. Amazing

  • http://slamonline.com tealish

    Great game.

  • http://www.double-technical.blogspot.com Zee!

Eddie ya’ll just got outworked, outhustled, outcoached….would it kill you to tell the truth? This bored BS is only gonna work so long.

  • JTaylor21

Kap, you big dummy, name one heat fan on here that swore he was going to avg. a trip dub and that the team would win 70 gms? I don’t remember Eboy, T-Money or even The Philo saying that sh*t, so quit making up ish or maybe that’s how it’s done in la la land. By the way, who the hell have the lakers played so far? RIDDLE ME THAT!

  • http://slamonline.com Kap

I could swear all you guys were claiming if LBJ wanted to average a triple double then he was gonna do it and that 70 wins was achievable. Also, I didn’t hear you talking about the schedule when the Cavs were playing the Bobcats and Pistons every other night when they had Bron so don’t try to damper the Lakers success with that crap now.

  • http://www.slamonline.com Eboy

Kap, just checking in for a minute, if you had an opportunity to review what I thought the Heat and Lebron would do….it’s out there in the SLAM archives somewhere. I think the Heat will win 666 gam….err…66 games and Lebron would average 24, 7, 8. I don’t think I’m going to be far off by the end of the year.

  • http://fdsjklf.com Jukai

JTaylor: You know I hate to say this, but in a seven game series, the Lakers would kill the Heat. Like, in five. The heat have a lot of problems they have to work out right now.
If the issues aren’t solved, I can’t see the Heat making 60 games.

  • feez22

well in the heats defense they have played better teams than the lakers… the best opponent the lakers have faced is who? the blazers? the heat have faced the celtics, jazz and the hornets all teams that i would deem better than the blazers (especially with rumors floating that roy is injured created by YOUR BOY Ron artest) but w/e it is what it is. The heat actually need time to grow and need to develop chemistry… i guess people are laughing like crazy because (SOME) heat fans pretty much signaled to me that it was a plug and play dynasty. clearly they need time to grow and need to fill some holes especially at the 1 and the 5 (and they need to get bosh to gain the 15 pounds that he decided to lose this offeseason.. why would he do that) thats my take on this “situation” the heat are 5-3 and imo are fully capable of gelling and getting the best record in the east. Again people you are jumping the gun on this team it is the 8th game… it is seriously like saying the hornets are 7-0 so they are clearly “elite” the answer is its too early to deem anything as concrete. I know the celtics gelled pretty quickly but that team had all preseason to do it the heat stumbled with injuries to their main guys in wade and bron so ya jumping the gun isn’t good when talking about john wall or the hornets so why is it good and true when talking about the heat?

  • http://www.slamonline.com Eboy

Jukai….I’m sure you know the NBA Finals aren’t played the first part of November, right?

  • Cizzo

I barely can stand Miami, but I hate Eddie TrailerHouse! I hope the Heat Oust him before they win a ring.. If they do get that close…..Who would want to postgame interview him anyway? He’s annoying!

  • Cizzo

Don’t Milsap come off the bench too? CBn one owe Paul some change…… Bosh is too effin scrubby for me to Big Upp! No excuse……..

  • http://slamonline.com Allenp

I was surprised Al Jefferson sat almost the entire fourth quarter and all of overtime and that big dude Koufos played.

  • MUBWAR

What’s this Lebron is overrated. Didn’t he just drop a triple double. Oh i was in NBA.com standing this morning and I see this : 1-Orlando
    2-Boston
    3-Atlanta
    4-Cleveland
    5-Miami
    6-Indiana
Is there something wrong with this picture

  • Random

I just love how about 6% of the people in here can actually spell correctly and put sentences together. Typical basketball fans

  • http://www.twitter.com/TheDiesel Anton

Haslem: “I gave up 14 mill for this isht?”

  • Klav

actually it hasn’t been publicized in the media but on the radio this morning in pdx it was noted that Roy has had his knee drained and is looking for a second opinion. but as far as the heat, Amar’e kinda seems like he would be the better fit with MIA than Bosh. but damn. maybe even Booze seems like a better fit since he’s a low post threat who can hit that midrange.

  • http://slamonline.com Allenp

Bosh is going to surprise y’all this season.
He is still getting used to the increased pressure. Being the third wheel in Miami is probably more stressful than being the number one option in Toronto. Every game is a big deal, and you have two obvious talents playing fairly well, so your mistakes get exposed more. Plus, he’s being asked to play with the same hustle as a role player, and the only time he’s really done that was with FIBA. Somebody should show him those tapes.

  • EtheKnickfan

Soooo the owner of Cavs was …..right?

  • http://fdsjklf.com Jukai

Eboy: No, but my point was, it’s going to take a lot of fixing for things to work. And so far, no change have been made. God, is there any value in Arroyo? It’s killing me watching him out there.

  • http://slamonline.com Allenp

Anybody who thinks the Cavs continue this hot streak is a fool. Seriously. We all so those same players crap the bed, it wasn’t Lebron. We all agree on that.

  • http://sports.espn.go.com/oly/olybb/news/story?id=5493184 Jackie Moon

So, how is this team better than last year’s Cleveland Cavs???

  • http://slamonline.com Allenp

    Jackie
    Magic.
Nah, seriously, it’s six games in and they have the same record.
Holla at me at the All-Star break. If they still are playing .500 ball then Bron has some explaining to do. And Mike Brown.

  • flipnoyce

Like I said before they look good on paper and who will take the last shot when the game matters the most??????Bron and Wade plays too much alike and Bosh is not a post up type of player. The only way this could really work is if Lebron is a permanent point and have Miller play the 3 spot when he comes back. So far my theory is 3 for 3 about teams that could beat MIAMI. A team with a good point guard with a decent 4 n 5 spot will expose Heat’s weakness!!!, just sayin!!!

  • http://fdsjklf.com Jukai

    ^^^^
Jordan and Pippen played pretty much the same position. They won six championships.
Though I’ll agree that, ideally, the lineup I want to see start is Lebron-Wade-Miller-Bosh-Big Z. You have three superstars, you don’t need to save firepower for the bench.

  • http://www.need4sheed.com Tarzan Cooper

Panic in the streets!!! ….. Its a marathon, not a sprint

  • Jay Reyes

@Anton: hahahaha!!! I definitely agree with your thoughts on Haslem!!!

  • ai come back

no this is a magic…….george gervin ish combo type thing haha

  • http://www.kb24.com The Seed

If Cavs make the playoffs, I do not ever want to hear that the Cavs team sucked. Because now Gibson is averaging 15, JJ averaging 16 and Mo is putting up 15. So maybe Lebron was dominating the ball too much and not trusting his teammates. Also it looks like Mo Williams is making his teammates better than Lebron. LOL!! BOOK IT!!

  • ClydeSays

Lil’ early in the season to be bored, don’t you think Eddie? Maybe after a few seasons of 70 plus wins you could say you were bored. Even so, that’s an insult to the ppl buying tickets…

  • http://fdsjklf.com Jukai

The Seed: Uhm…. so no one is averaging 20 points, Mo is averaging less points, and the third and fourth option is gone/not playing (Shaq/Jamison) and you’re impressed with the stat raises?
If the Cavs make an 8th seed, it would certainly take some pressure off the team, but like… the stats yer quoting don’t really justify yer point.

  • Blackphantom

    … Seriously?

  • http://tcrich101@yahoo.com 2k Champ

After Bosh got 40 balled last night I had 2 go ahead and place him on the trading block on 2k. I hope I can get Dirk 4 em. Thats who the heat shouldve picked up as a thrid wheel.

  • http://minusthebars.blogspot.com don

I am pretty sure there is a quote from another Miami player that better explains the meltdown, but as usual, the idiotic quote proves to be more “sensational.”

  • Jackie Moon

Eddie House: “Like, we weren’t even trying. It’s only a regular season game. No … really. No big deal. I don’t care. What? I don’t care. It’s cool. I’m cool.”

  • Jay Reyes

yeah, go tell that to the guys who pays these ego-maniacs millions of moolahs!

  • Jay Reyes

yeah, whatever… if guys like you get bored, let other bench players play… they wont be as bored as you and would surely want to prove that they can beat the jazz…

  • http://slamonline.com Michael Whyte

I read the first 20 comments and got the general idea of peoples thoughts. I agree with some and have this idea about how the heat and lebron are playing. I have watched nearly (prob 90 percent) all of Lebrons games over the past 2-3 years and this season there is something wrong. I’m going to keep watching with interest but I’m hoping he starts to take over games, not just 3rd quarters every now and then. Last season his Cleveland side lost to a buzzer beater by gaines, and I can tell you he did everything he could to win that game. I cant say the same thing about this loss.
