Flip Saunders: ‘Keep All Sharp Objects Away from Doug Collins’

Things haven’t gone well for Collins and the Sixers this season, and after last night’s tough overtime loss, Flip couldn’t help but get in a sly dig. From the Philly Inquirer: “Washington Wizards head coach Flip Saunders: ‘You better keep all sharp objects away from Doug.’ After watching this game, you might want to keep all sharp objects away from all 76ers fans. Nobody is saying the Sixers were turning some kind of corner or were headed toward great things this season. But when they were up 17 points in the third quarter, 15 points in the fourth, and then shooting two free throws to seal the win, you could imagine that they might be able to string together a few wins. Coming off of the victory over the Milwaukee Bucks, tonight’s victory would have made two in a row, and tomorrow night’s game against the Toronto Raptors certainly looked winable. Maybe, you could have been thinking in the final seconds of regulation tonight, the Sixers could be looking at a three-game winning streak. It wasn’t going to make the Sixers playoff bound, but it was going to keep them out of the Eastern Conference basement and have them feeling good about themselves. Now they’re right back where they started: bad, worse, not knowing how to win, making the same mistakes over and over again. The Sixers are 3-11 after tonight’s 116-114 overtime loss to the Wizards.”

It’s only been 10 years since AI took them to the finals…feels more like a 100.

hahaha, Flip is on point. Collins is renowned for being one of the most emotional coaches in the League.

Maybe they’ll luck out and get Harrison Barnes? Holiday, Iguodala and Barnes make a pretty good core for the future. Things are looking pretty grim for the Sixers I’ll admit though.

Glass houses and stones, Flip. Beware.

Philly should have traded their pick to Detroit for a bunch of pieces. They could have still picked someone solid at #7, and then the Pistons could have taken DeMarcus Cousins. Win win for everyone! Well, mostly the Pistons. But still.

They need to ship out Igoudala. They never should have paid Elton Brand that money either. This team has no “Alpha Dog” it is a bunch of third tier-players mixed in with one 2nd tier player. Throw in a highly overrated 2nd pick in the draft and you have a recipe for a bottom feeder in the East. Look around this Roster. There is no room for growth besides maybe Turner and Holiday. To be honest though, are any of them going to be anything more than a 2nd tier player if that? I would actually welcome the sixers tanking it for this season and next (assuming we have an nba season) for some building blocks. Right now, there is nothing to build on. It’s the same story every year. We are told “there are some nice pieces to build around.” Nothing ever changes though.

    RANT OVER

I think Demarcus Cousins would have helped this team’s needs more then Evan Turner.

Why are the Sixers so bad? They have so much talent at overlapping postions that you would expect mediocrity at least.
