LeBron James: ‘We Are Not Having Fun at All’

Following Miami‘s sixth loss of the season last night (by far, their worst), James told reporters that his team needs to rediscover the joy in order to start winning again. The Palm Beach Post has the quotes: “There’s only so much anger that can take care of a ballgame,’ James said. ‘You still need to go out and play. We need to play with the confidence we had earlier in the season. We need to have more fun. We are lacking two things, that is having fun and having a little bit of swag right now. We are not playing with the same atmosphere, pride and fun as we did early on in the season when we were playing some good ball.’ Of course, that’s a chicken or egg thing, isn’t it? ‘I think playing a high level will help,’ James said. ‘Fun can be taken out of character at times. You can say a team is having too much fun when you are winning, that these guys are not serious about the game. I really don’t believe in that for me, personally. That’s how I play the game of basketball. I have a lot of fun with it. It has helped me get to the point where I am today as a professional athlete. I don’t think I have brought that to the team thus far.’ Later, he added: ‘We are not having fun at all.’”

    Maybe it’s time to break out the ‘ol fake camera routine?

  • vtrobot

    starting taking the pretend pre-game pics again. those are always fun.

  • http://screwjams.tumblr.com cramzy

    time to pull out the elaborate handshakes and sideline dancing. He got to 60+ wins with it, right? They do look hella sad out there, like they dont even know each other

  • http://www.slamonline.com Eboy

    He’s going to be even more miserable if Pat comes down. This you can bet on.

    Damn, looks like all the backlash is wearing on Lebron psychologically. Deep down, Lebron is probably wondering if he is just another hired gun instead of the guy who could have MADE the Cleveland franchise. No amount of commercials saying “I just gotta do me” or pre-game handshakes could fix that.

  • Jay

    Deep down, Lebron is probably wondering if he is just another hired gun instead of the guy who could have MADE the Cleveland franchise.

    Or….he isn’t. But who am I to disagree with armchair psychologists.

    *not a LeBron fan, miss me with that.

  • Pharoah

    There still the best 8-6 team though right?..

  • EtheKnickfan

    Imagine if Cleveland wins the chip. The Heat will be on the team bus wit a hose attached to the exhaust. Methinks my knicks may just may have dodged the bullet on this one

  • http://itsahardwoodlife.blogspot.com omphalos

    I’m betting this is putting a serious strain on the friendship between Lebron, Wade and Bosh. Also, why is it that Lebron is always making post-game remarks on “Wade’s” team. This whole thing remains frustrating for me to bear as an NBA fan.

  • http://aspov.blogspot.com Cheryl

    these are the tests of character that an easy season wouldn’t have presented. we’ll see how the team as a whole (players, coaches, mgt) handles it. my hope is that they weather this storm and come out the other side stronger and bonded. but, we’ll know one way or the other soon.

  • EtheKnickfan

    @omphalos- Also, why is it that Lebron is always making post-game remarks on “Wade’s” team. Lebron has to rebuild his brand.
    Wade has to remarry.

  • http://www.slamonline.com J

    I don’t like what LeBron said. Having fun isn’t bad. But just having fun at all sometimes is. I’m a witness of that fun in Cleveland. Rather than having fun, why not play like you and the whole got something to prove eh? Win then have fun. Pay now play later.

  • vtrobot

    MIA gets swept in the first round and goes into a DAL-like depression for several years. Erick just brought the curse w/ him. Pat doesn’t ALWAYS win. He didn’t in NY.

  • neaorin

    I still think the Heat should bring Wade off the bench for the time being, even more so now that Haslem is out. Four points from the bench? that’s beyond pathetic. But who is the one that’s gonna tell Wade to come off the bench? It sure as hell doesn’t look to be Spo.

  • JTaylor21

    EBoy, it would be GREAT for this team if Riley got his a** down there and put his foot into a couple of back-sides. This kind of team needs a coach that isn’t afraid of them and that will tell them when they are doing something wrong instead of one that smiles on the sideline when they are down 15 pts. We all know that Wade loves Pac-Man’s brother but I think that Bron would rather have Riley coach than that clown. That’s why Pjax, Popovich, Doc Green are such succesful coaches because they push their players to get better everyday and are not afraid to scold them when they are not performing.

  • http://www.slamonline.com Eboy

    Don’t let me be the first one to tell you in hushed tones, but Mike Brown is out there.

  • kobesBESTfriend

    If he would of stayed in Cleveland he’d be 10-2 right now and leading the league in scoring…looks like he made the wrong “decision”

    How about no fun Lebron. As a heat, these words are very disappointing. Didn’t you say this summer that you had your eyes on everyone who was talking ish. Then prove me kingJames. Bosh is finally coming to his old self.

  • ClydeSays

    As goofy as the Cle sideline stuff was, that team’s core had played together for years and had won a ton of games. The Heat don’t have that yet. They need to learn to play together before they start planning pre-game hijinx…

  • javy

    Lebron lost his little notepad with the names of all the haters!!!
    That is why he doesn’t remember who he was mad at!
    I actually celebrate more a Heat loss rather than a Laker win….Amazing!!

  • neaorin

    Let’s not lose track of what’s really important here: is Chris Bosh still enjoying being on TV every night?

  • K boogie

    Wahhh “We’re not having fun”!! Man up Punk, this is what you wanted, now suck it up and play. Did you think it was going to be a cakewalk into June? haha shouldve came to the Knicks.

  • Noel

    Joni Mitchell never lied lol

  • robb

    well, I am! ha!

  • bails1

    I feel so bad for LBJ. Cmon guys knock it off in the comments he isnt having fun.I would rather watch a D league game then hear about every Heat loss. They’re gonna lose from time to time. Choose your words a lil more carefully Lebron.

  • http://www.fiba.com Darksaber

    @neaorin: Priceless, absolutely priceless line!

  • Bruno

    maybe taking notes of everybody got you wrong Lebron

  • Jackie Moon

    Last season’s Cavs looked like they had fun.

  • Will

    I can still see these guys catching fire in January and steamrolling to the playoffs. I am one of many looking for these guys to brick hard, but until their season is over I’m not going to get too happy about a few losses.

  • Will

    By the way, you think this changes the outlook for guys like CP3 and Melo, who were rumored to want to ride the “superteam” wagon to a title? I think CP3 really does want to win in N.O., but maybe Melo (if, he’s interested in winning and not making his wife happy) considers staying a little more now? Just my thoughts..

  • T-Money

    You can be intense and still have fun out there. It worked for Magic, 5 titles. You can be completely neutral also, worked for TD, 4 titles. There’s not just the MJ way, yanno.

  • http://aspov.blogspot.com Cheryl

    @ Eboy: So is Paul Silas.

  • http://slamonline.com Bryan Crawford

    LeWhine James…

  • http://slamonline.com nbk

    Winning = Happiness first of all. Second, i don’t understand any criticism of this, its not whining, he didn’t make an excuse, he was just honest. The hate from people about anything (LeBron, Kobe, Lakers, Spurs, anyone or anything)is dumb. You don’t prove anything except that your immature or think your funnier then you are.

  • http://theurbangriot.com The Nupe

    It’s still early in the season, the fat lady is still get dressed, she hasn’t even started warming up yet. She won’t start to sing for a few months. By that time, anything can happen. Bosh and Lebron are really playing well with each other now. Wade is hurt, but will heal. Bron/Wade have had a lot of succes utilizing a slow half-court offense so no need to up-tempo it. Honestly I think we’ll see LeBron formally move to the point and learn how/when to distribute by play design and not just wait until 4 seconds are left on the clock and taking the shot of find a man at that time. Bosh/Z still spreads the floor allowing for a Wade to slash or Bron to drive. Coach really needs to insert his offense and not just let the players play how they want. Miller is coming back, House and Jones aren’t bad role players. So yes, they are missing a srong center, but clearly they have enough talent to overcome that. They just need a coach with the backbone to really dictate how they’ll run the offense because right now Bron/Wade are not playing off of each other – sans a few highlights.

  • http://Slamonline.com Rocksinmypants

    Not a heat or lebron fan but right now I don’t see why people feel the need to gloat about every heat loss. It’s getting old already. There’s plenty of bball left we don’t know Exactly what’s gonna happen but I do know the heat won’t suck all season so let’s just wait and see.

  • http://slamonline.com Bryan Crawford

    I’m not a fan… I’m not going to apologize for that. I want to see them fail. It brings me great joy to see them get their butts kicked. So if calling these dudes out for these little girl statements that they make labels me immature, or unfunny, or a hater, so what…

  • http://slamonline.com nbk

    So you don’t like Joakim Noah either? Because he makes just as “girly” of comments. “Kg is a mean person” “In games like this its all about having fun” Or how about this “little girl” statement – “Just play. Have fun. Enjoy the game.” – Michael Jordan.

    I don’t even feel bad about using these guys in 2k anymore. Raise your hand if you still feel like Lebron having the ball in his hands for 37 minutes is productive.

  • saveahoe11

    It looked like all these miami knobs were having fun then, oh that wasn’t a championship parade? my bad losers, hope you enjoyed your free agent celebration, its the only celebration going on down there until Cuba is allowed to deal w/the US again!

  • http://stapledesign.com Spaceship Jay

    Rocks; that would be totally understandable if the Heat didn’t have a championship celebration BEFORE the season started. That celebration destroyed every sense of humility that the Heat could have mustured in their current situation. Sorry.

  • http://shinefluid@aol.com just Bcuz

    losing never is fun

  • http://Slamonline.com Rocksinmypants

    Jay I do agree to an extent. Of course they shouldn’t have gone up onstage acting q fool but still what team doesn’t set out saying they wanna win a championship? Cept maybe the clips and wolves they know they suck. But of course I’m just being the devils advocate here

  • http://stapledesign.com Spaceship Jay

    “Anything less than a championship is a failure.” I agree that it’s too early in the season to close the casket on’em, but the jig is up… Teams are doing to the Heat in regular season games what teams used to do to the Cavs in playoff games; and it’s working.

  • http://www.google.com/news BETCATS

    They dont dance on the bench in Miami. Lebron shouldve known that but nobody told him. He was fooled into signing on the Heat!

  • saveahoe11

    @dwadeofficial Thought for today! 99% of your HATERS either owe you or dnt know you! Tell them to rest n peace cause they r … http://tmi.me/3tyyR about 3 hours

    Great take Dwayne, how about you make more than 1 shot in a game you sorry knob

  • Blackphantom

    No wonder he never led CLE to the chip, it almost sounds like he cares more about fun than winning. Can’t y’all see it? He was obviously having fun when he was Cleveland winning 60+ games a season and doing pre-game dances, but once it was time to get serious he never stepped up to the plate enough to win a chip.

  • http://slamonline.com tealish

    And Bosh wants to just chill. Go fer it, fellas.

  • vtrobot

    I don’t understand the people who don’t understand the people who like to see MIA fail. People love it when the Dallases of the world decorate their locker rooms or schedule the victory parade route and then end up failing at the last minute. These dudes had their parade before the season even started! They’re the most bandwagonest team in a loooooong time so they’re def gonna have the most haters too.

  • http://www.bulls.com Enigmatic

    Waive Carlos Arroyo, Mario Chalmers, Jerry Stackhouse and Joel Anthony and sign Dru Joyce, Wille McGee, Sian Cotton and Romeo Travis!

  • C.B

    Lebron has been the only consisten player. the role players gota bring their game on

  • T-Money

    BC: you are indeed an immature, unfunny hater. but you can live with that. you’re the very reason why there’s an heat index. espn pulled a genius move with that: lots of hits when they win and even more when they lose!

  • All Day

    The pressure will continue to build with each loss Miami suffers. Those guys wanted to form a “superteam” and thought that if all they did was show up, they would win. Look at the players facial expression and body language…they don’t look happy at all…the pressure is starting to get to them.

  • .

    All I am going to say is thank GOD that it`s not LeBron that`s playing bad right now,because everyone would be killing him.If he was performing like D-Wade has been performing all you guys would be killing him,but I don`t hear anyone saying anything about the way Wade has been playing this season.He has been average at best,so if it`s his team like everyonesays it is then he need to start playing like it.

  • http://klatschendom.wordpress.com/ speedy

    New coach!!!!!
    Sorry, but if you got a team with these three stars you have to – I repeat – have to find a way to start better than 8-6.

  • http://www.danchamb.com.br Lz – Cphfinest3

    LeBron already misses the good times when he was dancing around with his two small hand puppets Mo & Boobie…

  • Hammer

    N the words of kid rock:”Get yourself a waa-burger and some french cries. Wash it down with a whine-achin.” Man,this prima donna is a f****n crybaby! And that splash u heard? Was the heat bandwagon fans jumping ship after last night

  • truthteller

    @Eboy: Trouble iin Miami, already? Damn, be patient! You’ve got plenty more games to get worse, er… I mean get better!lol

  • truthteller

    GO LAKERS!!!!!

  • http://yahoo.com Eboy

    I love the Lakers now im off the Heat bandwagon i wish kobe would let me suck his d1ck so he can forgive me for everything i said about him and the Lakers

  • http://www.danchamb.com.br Lz – Cphfinest3

    Yeah Eboy, me too… But get of Kob’s shaft there is not room enough for the both of us…

  • http://www.need4sheed.com Tarzan Cooper

    Im not sure if thats the real eboy being sarcastic or an imposter. Still kinda funny. Lets see what mia looks like in february.

  • http://theurbangriot.com The Nupe

    Is there anybody who doesn’t believe they are going to make the playoffs? It’s way to early for any of them to panic. Bosh is playing better, Bron is still Bron and Wade will come around. I’m sure they are still taking the season in stride and trying to learn how to play with each other. As long as they don’t lose to Cleveland next week, then LeBron won’t go off on his teammates. If the Cavs do beat them – watch out.

  • Jackie Moon

    Let’s give the Heat a few seasons to gel now, let’s be fair.

  • Jay

    Pat Riley needs the “gel” for his hair with the way the Miami Bust is playing.

    Miami Colds will not gel because:

    1. stagnant offense because of LeQuit’s holding the ball for 18 seconds;
    2. wade’s inability to score off the ball, he must have the ball to be in a position to score;
    3. bosh is bosh, soft, lazy and primadonna just like the King with No Ring;
    4. the bench feel that they are not part of the team;
    5. the coach is afraid to impose discipline on and off the court;
    6. the fans are bandwagoners, waiting first for their team to have winning ways; and
    7. The Chosen by Himself = LeBrick does not have the winning drive that infected his teammates, he just want to sell his shoes and market his brand;
    8. the role players are not fitting;
    9. there is only one predictable system, that is, give the ball to LeQueer and let him do his crab dribble thing;
    10. LeBron cant take the media pressure;
    11. Wade cant handle people’s exptectations; and
    12. Bosh cant compete with NBA’s prime big men.

    But, I think Miami Big Three’s prediction that they would win not one, two or three but eight championships will happen, in NBA 2k11. I already got two championships in my PSP the other day, playing LeQuit as center. hahahahhahah

  • baller

    how to have fun in miami, a guide for lebron :

    1. create a wrestling like entrance with smoke and each of the big three own’s theme music.

    2. throw powder up in the air before every home game.

    3. take fake pictures with fake camera.

    4. dance off with your team mates, everytime your team is winning.

    5. make a youtube video with chris bosh, begging people to vote bosh to the allstar game.

    6. when you fail to get the W for your team, make sure you pad your stats, so everyone can blame your teammates instead.

    7. get your coach fired.

    8. rinse and repeat.

  • truthteller

    @Tarzan: Eboy doesn’t mean that! That’s his way of being sarcastic! And even if he did, there’s no more room on the Lakers BAndwagon! It’s waaayyyy toooo FULL!!!!!! Sorry!

  • truthteller

    Well actually, Eboy might mean that part when he said, “I wish Kobe would let me suck his d1ck”! I think Eboy meant that! LOL
