Matt Barnes: Orlando Not as Good Without Me

Barnes, still salty for not having received a big payday from the Magic (or anywhere else for that matter), gives the team a less than favorable evaluation. From ESPN: “Orlando didn’t offer me a dollar,’ he said of the Orlando Magic, the team he played for last season. ‘But they’re paying for it now. When they played [the] Heat, I saw them get blown out because they couldn’t handle the wings. I feel for the guys on the team but it’s definitely a business.’ Some wounds heal slowly. Scars never fade. Barnes doesn’t bother trying to hide his. ‘Since I got an opportunity to play in Golden State [in 2006-07], I’ve put together four or five solid seasons with no real rewards,’ he said. ‘Luckily I’ve landed here. And when you win everything happens so hopefully good things come from [being here].’ He said it like he meant it. But he also said it like a guy who has been let down before and has learned to trust only in his own effort and abilities. ‘I really wish I knew the answer to it. But I just continue to play hard,’ he said.”

I really like Barnes. He understands the game, doesn’t do too much on his own and is a ferocious defender. Just ask Kobe. And he’s right, that lost to my Heat was cause richardson couldn’t defend s***.

  • Sparker

has he spoken w trevor a or jordan f on this matter?

  • Choo

Trevor & Jordan left after they got rings! And they left for bigger pay day!

  • flipnoyce

They ain’t missing you at all, but hey you can atleast say you got to ride Kobe’s jock strap while Phil sits in the back watching Ron Artest ran around in his boxers thinking damn we got you cheap!

  • chazz michael michaels

lol he just joined the lakers cuz he knew the possibility of winning a ring this year…

  • neaorin

All your dollars are in Rashard’s bank account by now.

You mean the non deserving Rashard Lewis. Ohh I know him.

  • T-Money

I kinda feel for Barnes, the guy never made more than 1.5 mil a year and he’s playing in front of bums like Luke and Sasha that have 30 million dollar contracts. / chazz: he was running out of options and wanted decent PT. His 2 year/10 mil deal with Toronto got nixed (he tweeted too soon), Orlando never offered, Miami wanted shooters and were offering the vet min for one year, Boston never offered. A player like Barnes is useless to a team on the come up.

  • elmaar

barnes is fearless and plays hard and everyone knew qrich was a downgrade to what barnes brought to the table
btw otis smith a dumbass gm who thinks he’s great just because he’s got dwight and can beastly overpay for some straight shooters
not counting the signing of brandon bass everything he has done is bull
guys like otis ruin guys careers

  • JER Dawg

I wish Matt Barnes all the best. Lakers will reward him once Vujacic comes off the books along with other soon to expire contracts. He plays hard, very smart, and unselfish. Sounds like I’m descibing Luke Walton but only Matt can really move. I like those guys, but they are looking like waste of money. Brown and Barnes are making peanuts compared to Vujacic and Walton. Go get your just due, Matt.
    Orlando is nothing!!!

barnes is the biggest underpaid player. sucks. he plays winning basketball. great guy to have on your team, and you hate to have him on the other side.

  • ClydeSays

Little early for all these proclamations of ‘disappointment’, ‘not as good’ or ‘contender’ for various teams. Let’s see where they are 25-30 games in.

  • dsleepy21

this dude deserves a contract, a real one I mean. But agree with the rashard comments. His bloated salary really hurting them now and I don’t think they’ll be able to sign any good additions for a while. Shame for dwight, he needs more help than shard and useless vc

  • Love4Humanity

    Newsflash: Matt Barnes can’t shoot

If you think any differently you are a fool

  • JTaylor21

Overrated and overhyped defender just like his master.

  • http://www.need4sheed.com Tarzan Cooper

Wheres his competitiveness? He supposed to want to beat the best, not join them. What a pussy! He should want to be on a garbage team and beat la all on his own. What a loser and chump!

  • Fat Lever

I have no sympathy, salary wise, for anyone making more than 7 figures a year. Live in the real world and you’ll be begging for your 7 figure salary quick-fast.

  • http://slamonline.com tealish

@Fat — In what type of world, if not real, do these professional athletes live in?

  • mike

Guys who have played for 5 teams in few years and dont get paid well…. there is usually a reason , i dont know the guy, but he must be doing something wrong if hes such a great player but nobody wants to pay him

  • Fat Lever

Tealish, the top 2%. A little different from the remaining 98%.

  • orl.chris

Yeah I dont really miss Barnes at all. He’s a decent defender, but a total liability on the offensive end of the court (poor shooter, cant finish drives). He doesn’t deserve more than the 1.5mil a year he’s been making, don’t know why he’s complaining.

  • ai come back

the heat can suck all they want in the reg. season everybody was dissin lebron sayin who gives a f if he wins 66 games it aint gonna matter int he playoffs and they was right so he can win 45 games now but if he gets to at least the ecf haters better shut up

  • dma

cosign MIke.. there’s a reason why nobody wants to sign you for more than a year or two.

  • http://thephotoriot.com davidR

poor shooter? barnes can knock the 3 down from a kick out

  • http://theurbangriot.com The Nupe

Barnes can easily turn into a locker-room issue. He’s certainly not one of the most mentally tuff guys in the L. That’s why he isn’t getting that big contract. Maybe phill will straighten him out, but Barnes and Artest on the same team will be interesting to watch as the season moves on.

Orlando without me is like cereal without milk!

  • http://www.need4sheed.com Tarzan Cooper

Davidr, he CAN but with what amount of consistency? Barnes is best on the fast break. He plays good not great d, and can make some shots. Hes a good player.

  • JC

so Rashard shoots better than Matt, but boy, can Rashard choke !!

  • Rainman

Let me just say, my Raptors could have used him big time. So could my Suns for that matter, wish he never left in the first place. Obviously too much to ask with the cheap owners we’ve had tho.

  • http://slamonline.com Rashard Lewis

    Sorry Matty

  • http://www.triplejunearthed.com/dacre Dacre

Rainman – Suns. Your Suns….? Get inline. Also – the Suns don’t need him. The Suns need a 6’11 255, Warrick.

  • ripslam

I dunno why this guy is constantly running his mouth. He’s a “solid” player at best.

  • http://www.youtube.com/user/32JSE Yesse

It’s not like i would vote him to the all star game. He is a solid player, but he talking about the situation like he was LeBron and Orlando was Cleveland.

  • O’Neezy

He’s just really salty, but I can understand. He see’s players of the same calibre (or worse than him) getting lots of money and he’s not. For them its just an issue of being at the right place at the right time. Because its the NBA we always congratulate the stars but forget that even the solid players are hard to come by. He’ll get his one day..

  • unrel

he’s worth a lot more than what he gets.. forget the dollar amount for a second.. i think he really just wants a contract with more years on it.. look at all the teams he’s been on.. and i don’t think it’s a matter of teams not wanting him.. because why would teams sign him?.. it’s not like he’s getting traded all the time (ie: Q.Rich).. just about every team he’s been on.. he’s either started or was the first off the bench.. he’s just looking for job security.. and a city to buy a home in.. instead of long term renting..
