Miami Heat Regretting the Joel Anthony Signing?

Sources tell the Miami Herald that the Heat are having doubts about the deal they gave to their underwhelming center: “Even one Heat official last week privately questioned the size of the deal it gave to Joel Anthony (five years, $18.2 million). ‘That was a ridiculous contract,’ one NBA scout said. ‘He’s so limited and undersized for a center. You can get a guy at the minimum without much difference. Erick Dampier would be an upgrade.’ But the Heat doesn’t agree about Dampier (still unsigned), though he told us previously he has no idea why Miami doesn’t want him.”

im sorry but there is no place for dude in the NBA…i think this to myself everytime I watch them

  • MUBWAR

Dampier is trash. Don’t anyone remember how he chocked in the Finals against Wade n Shaq. Anthony is great for this team. Don’t need much offense(duu they have wade n James) and he is a great defender.

No Miami is regretting that Chris Bosh signing!!! You can always trade a 18.2 million dollar contract, you can’t trade a 110 million dollar contract. Erik Dampier is a softer version of Chris Bosh, which is why he’s sitting at home, waiting for a phone call.

  • All Day

The Joel Anthony contract isn’t a bad contract, compared to what the players are making today.

  • B

Joel Anthony makes Erick Dampier look like Malcolm X.

  • http://slamonline.com Bryan Crawford

^^It is a bad contract. Joel Anthony is a bum. $3.25M per for a guy that can’t do a whole lot and does absolutely nothing well? No way. I mean, the guy airballed a dunk. I guess $18.2M doesn’t buy what it used to these days.

  • catchmeimballin

i think he would actually be better if he played forward rather than center. he is too undersized to be a 5.

  • http://eastofeden55@hotmail.com Waggle

I’m still wondering why he starts over Big Z

  • http://slamonline.com The Black Rick Kamla

@B i spit my water out!! lmao

  • gerardo

Dampier would actually bring a better defensive presence in heat front court, not much of a scorer but he deff good for rebounds and block which at this point the heat desperately need

  • JTaylor21

Uhm NO, Joel Anthony makes Erica Dampier look like Wilt Chamberlain on roids.

Cats expecting Joel Anthony to rebound have obviously never seen him play. He’s an atrocious rebounder. Even his defense is overrated. He blocks the occasional shot but you can score on him 1vs1. He’s really not much on an NBA player and he racked up a DNP-CD vs. Memphis. / I guess the Bosh haters will ignore that he has been back to his old 20-10+ self the last two games, eh?

  • http://slamonline.com Bryan Crawford

Where is EBoy who said that Joel Anthony would average 8 points per because of LBJ penetrating and kicking it out to him for the short baseline jumper?

  • T-Money

Eboy: you really said that JA would be hitting jumpers? LeBron is hitting CB, Z and UD for jumpers all day (they all shoot 50% +) but Joel Anthony?! Has he ever taken a jumpshot? BC, you’re not making that up, right? I’m just surprised that someone who watches every MIA game could say something like that.

  • Cizzo

After this J.A. crisis what’s next? 3 players costing 300 mllion plus?

  • http://slamonline.com YKnot

I know 8ppg because of drive n dish? Those are Boshs’ numbers. Lol!

  • T-Money

Seriously, people need to stop pretending that every other GM with cap space last summer would not have killed to be able to offer 300 M + to these three guys. Cmon now.

  • AT33

The worst contract on the Heat is the Bosh contract!!! 110 MILLION US DOLLARS for this weak fool? I wouldn’t even have paid him 110 MILLION PESOS!!!

This skinny fool is so weak even Darko would have been a better signing.

  • michael

has to be said, with the chemistry bosh and lebron are developing, and the fact that wade/lebron dont seem to be in sync – miami shoudl try and trade wade. Ok, its never going to happen, but you spread one of those near max deals out amongst decent role players and that team is insanely hard to beat. I think they got a little greedy with signing all the big names without thinking of how it woud play out on the actual court. Hindsight is a wonderful thing.

  • neaorin

110 million for Bosh was money well spent because it landed them LeBron. And when 85 year old Ilgauskas gets your starting spot you know you don’t belong in the L.

  • http://slamonline.com Bryan Crawford

@T-Money: No sir, I’m not making that up. You even called him on it yourself. I can’t remember what post it was from, but it had to be in like August or September because you mentioned that you either played against the dude or saw him play in HS in Canada. I remember that clearly because it was such a ridiculous statement.

  • http://slamonline.com Bryan Crawford

Actually T-Money, I got the context of Eboy’s quote wrong, but not by much. Here it is, from the “LeBron Jame Doesn’t Think He Can Average A Triple Double” post in September:
Eboy Posted: Sep.29 at 1:45 pm
Uhm…..he’ll be getting wide open looks under the basket due to Lebron and Dwyane’s (and Bosh’s step out game)basket penetration. I think he may average 8-10pts a game, which would be Kareem numbers for a dude like Joel.

  • LeBron de Con

E-Boy likes to shine my turds.

  • bdub

All i know is that Anthony and his Canadian Team got owned by New Zealand at the World Championships. Enough Said. Our guards were taking it to the rack with ease.
Enough said. He isn’t worth that contract.

  • JTaylor21

AT33, you need to off yourself for that darko statement. No one should ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever us Darko as an anology for anything basketball-related. You should lose brain cells for that one, bra.

  • spit hot fiyah

    lol @B

  • http://sdfjlkf.com Jukai

I actually thought Joel Anthony would be way better than he was. But if you blow wide open under-the-basket dunks at 6’9, like… well, really, Miami should have realized this.
JTaylor, did Joel Anthony give you a rimjob or something? Dampier is 3x the player Anthony is.
Joel Anthony is 6’9, playing with three all-stars, but only managed to score 2 points and grab three rebounds.
Erick Dampier is 6’11, playing with only Dirk, managed to do 6 and 7 last year. I mean, this is a no brainer. Sigh Dampier, he will play PERFECTLY splitting minutes with Big Z.

  • bashmo

lmao people are hating on Bosh, but he’s stepped his game up over the last few games and is now averaging 17 and 7. As for Joel anthony, i agree waste of money, hasnt gotten minutes, blows too many oppurtunities and doesnt play with a lot of intensity.

  • JP

Are you talking about the all medias summer dream team ?

  • http://www.need4sheed.com Tarzan Cooper

The guy is getting almost 4 mil a year, waaaay too much for his ‘talents’. Im gonna say it, pat riley should have just tried to sign shaq, not that shaq would have signed. Mike miller is out for a long time, now udonis. Nothing easy.

  • Michael

    he is a bum

  • saveahoe11

@B dude that had to be the funniest comment ive read on a comment section in 5 years!! Friggin hilarious bro!

  • Spetsnaz

@JTaylor21 – With Darkos contract being roughly the same as Anthony i’d have Darko in a heartbeat. I’m pretty sure you’ll never see 26, 16, 5 assists and 6 blocks from Joel Anthony in a game, especially against the lakers!

  • Deez

The issue with Bosh isn’t his scoring, as the 3rd option he was always going to average less than 20 pts a game, it’s how he gets used and abused in the paint. Miami has NO interior presence. At least Damp can put a body on people and not get muscled out of way (as easily) on rebounds.

  • flipnoyce

And there goes that debate who should start as a CENTER! MIAMI needs a big Man to be successful with their drive in penetration and only if Lebron play as a point. They have 4 PF or 3 undersized center depending on how you see this team.

  • Hammer

There r 3 bad signings on that heat team:bosh, arroyo, and anthony

  • http://thetroyblog.com Teddy-the-Bear

How can anybody question the Bosh signing? ROFL. Like you wouldn’t want to have Bosh on your team.
Anthony is better than a lot of you make him out to be.
Also, Darko is ACTUALLY a keeper in this league. Just watch.

  • http://yahoo.com Eboy

LEAVE MY HEAT ALONE IM GOING TO KILL MYSELF NEXT TIME I HEAR A NEGATIVE COMMEN ABOUT THE HEAT!!!!!!!!!!!

  • MikeC.

@Teddy – I can honestly say that I don’t want Bosh on my team, but it’s all about the situation. I don’t want Bosh because I’m a Knick fan, and if Bosh was on the Knicks, he’d be the #1 guy. No thank you to that platter of poop. Bosh seems lost in Miami. He’s too good to be a role player, so he’s lost when Lebron and Wade are both there because he knows he’s pretty damn good, but he’s not content to just get his when he can. He needs some plays run for him so he can get his groove. Bosh is perfectly suited to being the #2 guy. When Miami signed Bosh, I figured they’d go out and get a bunch of role players to deepen the roster around Bosh and Wade. When they got Lebron too, things got weird there. Too much top-heavy talent. If the league could throw away the cap rules for one day, I bet Miami would trade Bosh for Kevin Love or Al Horford without thinking twice.

  • MikeC.

Heck, even Bosh for Scola or Aldridge would benefit the Heat. I said ‘heck’. I’m done for the night now.

  • robz

hate 2 say dz but its karma 4 d heat team…wats goin on?

  • http://www.google.com Larsylad

Well, sure, 18 mill may be overdoing it. Then again u have to pay the guy to play so say the total waste i 10 million. Still I don’t think Joel, dollar-for-dollar is the worst signing the Heat have pulled of this summer. Bosh, for one. Or, as I prefer to call him, The Addition. There’s 50 mill staight into the Atlantic. Especially since you know that this guy partially joined this spectacle to make loot through other businesses as well. He would get paid either way. Joel Anthony is “a nobody” in the Heat circus, and shouldn’t take too much heat (no pun intended) for their fiasco-in-the-makings.

  • omid

HAHAHAHAHA, M-V-P, way to go Joel, proving the haters wrong. It’s an absolute pleasure watching you give 100%. If you had any offensive talent whatsoever, you would be an all-star.
