NBA Fines Jackson $50K for ‘Verbal Abuse’ of Refs

As long as the L continues cracking down on techs, expect much more of these head-scratching fines throughout the season. All we know is that Stephen Jackson and Larry Brown both picked up second-half technicals for arguing calls last night against the Pistons. From an NBA press release: “Stephen Jackson of the Charlotte Bobcats has been fined $50,000 for verbal abuse of game officials, it was announced today by Stu Jackson, NBA Executive Vice President, Basketball Operations. The incident occurred following the Bobcats’ 97-90 loss to the Detroit Pistons last night at the Palace of Auburn Hills.”

Another one of those Don’t Ask Don’t tell policy, Stern gonna get rich, makes me wonder if he gets a percentage of where all these money going to. And the beats goes on……

    thats crazy

So, let me get this correct. It’s OK for the referees to show vendetta against certain players, teams, coaches. But it’s uncivilized for the favor to be returned?

It isn’t as though Captain Jack has a bad record of behavior or anything?

  • Nick the Quick

Apparently, the ref in question posted on his Twitter account that Capn Jack called him “cancerous to the refs union and the league”…

We didnt shoot a free throw until the 4th quarter in that game. I was mad at the refs too.

  • MikeC.

I’ve just fined BETCATS $50,000 for ongoing criticism of game officials.

  • TrailBlazing&SportingLisbon

@Betcats, you accept our 2 first round picks and exp. contracts for Captain JAck?! we need a reliable 6th man to play 30minutes per game, you might need to rebuild though Jordan doesnt seem to think so, what do you say?

  • Jens Christian Auken

WHen you think in NBA mode 50.000 is like nothing, but when you use common sense it is insane!

  • arjae828

Wait. So in addition to the $5,000 for the tech itself he gets fined $50,000? I expect him to fight this. Can’t change the fine for a tech. NO matter what he did, if it was only worth a tech then he’s gotta be held to the aforementioned fines…

Do they fine baseball managers this much when the kick dirt on an umpire?

  • Spank Delux

Did he get fined that much when he charged the bleachers and actually beat fans up?

It is funny because the NBA used a lip reader to determine what Jackson said in order to find him. @TrailBlazing: i wouldnt but that doesnt mean that MJ/Rod wouldnt. I dont want to rebuild but if we do that is pretty good value for Jackson.

Seriously BET? A lip reader? Why didn’t they just ask the ref? Or the ref did not even hear what Cap’n Jack said?
