Polladaday: Pay Cuts?

Like the NHL did a few years back, the NBA would like to implement a hard line on pay cuts this offseason. What do you think of that?

Would a hard line on pay cuts by the NBA be fair?

i think they should put a compromised lower percentage level of basketball related income into the next CBA, but i think that you have to leave current contracts as they are… However Toronto, memphis, minnesota and a whole bunch of other teams need to smarten up financially

I’d hate to see a salary roll back, but if it does happen, it has to happen to everyone. What’s worse than a salary roll back in the long run is the owners getting a franchise tag, imho.

what’s not fair is someone making more in one game than most normal people make in a whole year..

  • JTaylor21

^who cares about what most people make, can “most people” dunk, run, shoot, and defend? NO. It’s all about supply/demand; the supply of NBA caliber players is really low, so the demand for their services is really high which allows them to be paid said salary. COME ON SON that’s something you learn in your basic economics class.

some actors get paid millions to pretend to be someone else for a few weeks, so i’m not going to begrudge an athlete for what he makes. that’s how the entertainment industry goes.

i said yes.. because as the salaries go up.. the ticket prices go up for the fans..

    @JTaylor21

taking a que from your post.. “who cares about what you think”.. i mean how objective can the biggest kobe hater on a site of kobe haters be.

@drew, well those normal folks should consider a career change.

I don’t see how any blue blooded basketball fan can possibly agree with hard-line pay cuts for these guys….just proposterous….how about this, how about we do a hard-line moratorium on stupid signings and extensions from these GM’s…thats more reasonable

  • Groves@UWA

@drew. be smart. please. supply and demand. don’t like it. change jobs.
JTaylor, you got it in one

  • Groves@UWA

@drew, and what does JT’s stance as a kobe hater have to do with salaries at all. separate issue, this is an opinion poll not and objective position poll

  • drew

    @ everyone

we’ll just have to agree to disagree. im not saying it’d be fair, but in life nothing’s fair. bottom line is, whether the league has to protect owner’s from themselves for handing out albatross contracts or what not, the math has to work out, and one of those options is salary rollbacks. we’ll see if everyone here still has the same stance when the entire season might be cancelled due to this very issue.

  • hoodsnake

Nah a hard line won’t be fair. Except in the case of Joe Johnson.

Right, supply and demand. We’re seeing just how great that’s working out with the, umm… What do we call it now? THE GREAT RECESSION?!
