Post Up: Miami Iced

And Rondo asks Rose how his pass taste.

by Anton Kudriavtsev /@TheDiesel

12 games, no time to waste. Let’s get down to the action.

Bucks 94, Pacers 90

Fear the Deer, for they will shoot slightly better than you. The battle of terrible field goal percentages came to a merciful close as the Bucks edged the Pacers. The Pacers shot 38.7%, a tenth of a percentage point better than the Bucks and managed to convert 16 fast break points but shot themselves in the foot with 19 turnovers. Salmons led the Bucks with 22 points while Collison and Granger both had 19 for the Pacers.

Nets 90, Magic 105

The Magic were in full pre-season form (and that’s a good thing for this team) as they rolled the Nets like one of Mikhail Prokhorov’s five thousand dollar cigars. The Nets held a steady early lead before a 17-4 run blew the game open, and when you play inside-out it’s not hard to do against this team. Dwight Howard is nothing if not efficient against lower-end teams, putting up 30 points and 16 rebounds (including 12-16 from the charity stripe). Outlaw led the Nets with 17 points but his squad were killed (-18) on the free throw line and just couldn’t stop Howard down low. Full time starter and part time raccoon look-alike Jameer Nelson left the game late with a twisted ankle as he landed on Devin Harris. I do wish him well but I also wish White Chocolate gets the starting gig and brings sexy back to Orlando.

Cavs 123, Sixers 116

The Comic Sans Cavs defeated the Sixers, extending an 8-game road winning streak in Philly. I don’t know what’s more amazing, the Cavs scoring over than 120 points or they fact that they did it without LeHumble. Anderson Varejao was one of 5 Cavs in double figures, with a monster game (by his standards) of 23 points and 12 rebounds.  Jrue Holiday led the Sixers with 29 but couldn’t stop hot outside shooting from Mo Williams and Daniel Gibson. One key element missing from this year’s squad (besides him) is Mike Brown’s help defense. Byron Scott’s schemes seem to fall apart when the point guard blows by his man, and the defenders aren’t recovering as fast. Cleveland needs to work on this part of their schemes if they want to contend in the East…pause. Nocioni injured his ankle late in the game while wearing Kobe V’s…just saying.

Bobcats 90, Pistons 97

The Pistons got their first win of the season as they beat the Bobcats, the franchise’s worst start since the 0-7 1980 season. With Stuckey on the bench for questioning coach Kuester’s greatness, Detroit had T-Mac running the point and strangely enough did not lose as a result. Stephen Jackson’s 28 fell short and Ben Gordon added 20. After leading by as many as 22 and a one-possession game in the 4th quarter, the battle on the free throw line (Detroit’s 26 vs. Indiana’s 7) ultimately determined the result. I know hindsight is always 20/20, but I bet a part of Captain Jack wishes he stayed on a contender.

Wizards 91, Knicks 112

After taking care of the Asbestos problem, the Knicks returned home and now have back-to-back blowout wins as they defeated the Wizards. The 6’2” Toney Douglas(19 points, 10 rebounds) not only led his team in scoring but also had double the rebounds that his goggled power forward did. Wilson Chandler is an underrated dunker. Check the YouTube clips, then check his monster mash on JaVale McGee from the highlights. Gilbert Arenas made his debut since taking Birdman’s “Always Strapped” song a little too seriously, coming off the bench and scoring 14 of his 18 in the 4th quarter. With Wall struggling with turnovers, Andray Blatche (22 points) picked up the scoring load in between eating buckets of ice cream on the bench.

Bulls 105, Celtics 110

A night after benching his All-Star point guard, Coach Thibodeau got a nice ovation from the Celtics fans as his Bulls lost in overtime. With a flashback to their first-round rivalry a few seasons ago, the game was tighter than Byron Scott’s cross-armed pectoral workout. Luol Deng hit a clutch three to time the game and ultimately send it to overtime. The Celtics are simply a well-oiled defensive machine and executed down the stretch, with 7 players scoring in double figures, led by Allen’s 25. Joakim Noah led the Bulls with 26 points and 12 boards while Rose (18 points, 9 assists) couldn’t overcome an 8-19 shooting night and turning the ball over to establish his rhythm. A Garnett steal sealed the game, and I half-expected KG to rip out his heart and pound it back into his chest with a well-placed fist. Rajon Rondo continued his assault of assists with 11 dimes to go with 10 points.

The human mahogany statue in the NBA is KG, like Chappelle said: blahhkness!

  • http://Www.fiba.com Darksaber

J-Rich or die trying: classic stuff. T.P.U is turning into a must-read on Slamonline.

  • Airswade

Is it me or does K.G. seem to get more immature the older he gets? Such a dick….never used to be….

  • http://www.slamonline.com James the Balla

Dwight’s offense is looking really good! I gotta say, watching the Raptors and Lakers game last night. Derozan was playing really well, Kobe, Fish, Lamar, and barnes couldn’t really guard him, and he was finishing over Pau every time he drove. But he must have missed 7 open shots. One air ball, one of the top of the backboard, it was pretty ugly.

  • http://www.slamonline.com James the Balla

Bosh and Andrea Bargnani look to be the worst rebounders in the NBA this year. It’s disgusting. I thought Bosh would be leading in rebounds this year. I was completely wrong!

  • http://Www.fiba.com Darksaber

Leandro came back into the game late in the 2nd half, the result? Turnover, forced jumper (brick), bad pass to AJ, forced jumper (same result), 2 attempted 3′s (same result), then one sweet drive and pass to AJ for a great dunk. Yeah, between those posessions and Andrea bricking 2 or 3 jumpers, the Raptors lost all the momentum they had in the 3rd quarter/early 4th.
They rebounded so well, but offensive execution is lacking.

  • http://www.slamonline.com James the Balla

Kobe had a beautiful steal last night. Hopefully everyone got to see it in the highlights. Good write up Anton!

  • http://Www.fiba.com Darksaber

Mambiatch (sue me) had one badass rejection on Kleiza with a few secs to play. After watching Linas destroy european defenders while with Olympiakos last season (i kid u not, he was like LBJ with a nicer stroke in Greece and the Euroleague) that block probably was jarring!

  • http://www.slamonline.com James the Balla

lol alright I am out, but that video of Bron is hilarious!

  • http://Slamonline.com Caboose

Don’t look now, but Dwight has really become a beast on the offensive end. He’s not afraid to use spin moves and he will comfortably take a 15 foot face-up shot. If he keeps taking steps like this, Orlando could be very dangerous (assuming his team can keep up with him).

  • ab40

with the charlotte detroit game you had indiana in your recap? come on now at least write out their teams right. And Jameer Nelson from this day forward will be known as: “The Coon”. btw the twitter feed sucks and the song is ok.

  • Hammer

Can’t wait 4 booz 2 start playin. THAT’S when we will know if my bulls r legit. We almost beat the c’s w/them having 7 guys n double figs AND rose struggling. If this were last yrs team,it wouldve been a blowout from start 2 finish. “Watch out now” like the beatnuts 4 noah. Another dub-dub. Wish he wouldve slowed it down tho and set up a possible game tying 3 stead of trying 2 take it coast 2 coast. Nonetheless a gr8 game. Can’t wait 4 these 2 teams 2 face each other this season. Its gonna b fun 2 watch

  • http://slamonline.com MVPballer

Man, the Heat are fu*king up.

  • http://slam Lonballer

KG5 is a living legend! Lay off him! I’m tweeting from London and we have mad love for KG.
He’s old school and plays with heart which most of these youngs kids (Charlie V, Noah) and you
Airswade can take a leaf from. London ballers in the house.

  • Airswade

@Lonballer. I’m from London too. Doesn’t change the fact the K.G has been acting like a dick for the past few years.

  • Airswade

@ Lonballer. I’m from London too, doesn’t change the fact that K.G. has been acting like a dick for the past few years. Guy can ball, don’t get me wrong, but he’s becoming more of an asshole as time goes on. By the way I’ve been watching the NBA since 88, so don’t talk to me about old school. I also played professional ball for 2 years for the London Towers back in the day, so I don’t need to take any leaves from anybody. Word.

  • http://slamonline BossTerry

off subject, but Slam ish #143 is pretty good so far, I like the “History of violence” piece, but according to that Kobe has only been involved in 2 altercations (Childs, R.Miller) But I clearly remember opening night (2003-ish) Kings VS Lakers, when Doug Christie punched him in the face.. Also missing, Melo’s “hit & run” on Mardy Collins..

  • http://www.slamonline.com James the Balla

@MVP, Pat Riley will take over in t-minus 2 more losses.

  • http://slamonline.com Krishan

Damn those canadians, always with the unkempt hair and growing adamantium claws and whatnot

  • http://slamonline BossTerry

Also, you got Portland 8th in the west?? Nah, I expect them to be around 4th-6th.. (The west isnt as tough as it has been in previous years.) And Philly making the playoffs???

  • http://www.twitter.com/TheDiesel Anton

Good to see that you’re safe, James.

  • http://juanm.garcia@comcast.net Flashback

Miami is still going to win 60 to 65 games I believe. The problem will arrise when, in the playoffs, teams focus on taking away their strengths (dribble penetration and 3 point shooting). This team lacks a go to scorer in the box that keeps defenses honest on their great 3 point shooters. This team , athough it has a greater supporting cast, greatly resembles the Cavaliers teams of 2008 – 2010. A team with great defense will expose them in the playoffs. I look for the Heat to be a true contender once they re-evaluate there flaws this coming summer and bring in, not allstar, some low post threats.

  • http://www.slamonline.com James the Balla

@Anton, leave Monday morning. So I am trying to get my posts in now lol.

  • http://www.slamonline.com James the Balla

@Anton, I know you have hated me before, and vice versa lol. But if you want to can hit me up on facebook!

  • http://Slamonline.com Kap

To those who said the Cavs have no talent and would be the worst team were very wrong. That team has alot of good players on it.

  • CoolBreeze

Good points. But keep in mind the Celtics were with out Shaq, Delonte and will have Perkins in February themselves.

Rondo also had sore feet (was not scheduled to play), and every time he left the game, the Bulls made a run and the Celtics offense fell apart.

That won’t always be the case.

The Bulls could of/should of been blown out. So please keep that all in perspective.

  • Jdote

Rose or Rondo?? I can never call it

  • http://www.twitter.com/TheDiesel Anton

Haha didn’t know that, well at least you’re safe at home? Maybe you can whip out an iPhone in the field and check the SLAM wire. I don’t have facebook but you gotta get with the times, all the kids nowadays are on Twitter.
@BossTerry – Yeah I had Portland at 5, but that’s being optimistic. I don’t think Houston will make it and the Hornets and Suns will sneak in at 7 and 8. And of course there’s no way the Sixers are making the playoffs, I say the Knicks and Bucks(health permitting), with the Cavs going for that #8 spot in April.

  • http://www.slamonline.com James the Balla

At home yes, lol … and I have no cell phone. They do however have internet over there. Twitter… nope, I am good. Maybe one day I will get a cell phone.

  • Blackphantom

lol, “Dammit Brandon, a swagger-double is not a real thing”

  • http://www.twitter.com/TheDiesel Anton

So the Hornets basically showed a pretty good blueprint on how to beat the Heat: be physical with Bosh, limit transition points, and get into the paint with dribble penetration. I’d still give LeBron and Wade touches in 4th quarter plays to keep teams guessing, doesn’t Spo have family he wants to be spending more time with?

  • TrailBlazing&SportingLisbon

good sh1t Anton, and Portland finishing 5th is optimistic?! are you fu(kin with me? HOME COURT IS REALISTIC, THEY HAD IT 2 YEARS AGO. with relative health is absolutly doable.

  • TrailBlazing&SportingLisbon

and Bosh is soft, DOMINATED BY OKAFOR…Joel Antony IS SH1TY

  • http://www.twitter.com/TheDiesel Anton

You know it, the west should give up right now. Sean Marks = championship ring for the Blazers!

  • Jackie Moon

I guess the Heat is Eddie House’s team.

  • http://sjfdklf.com Jukai

A bunch of notes about the Heat:
-Cut Arroyo. You have two of the best ball handlers in the L, so why the hell is Arroyo dribbling away seven seconds of the shot clock?
-On the same point, the ball should be in either Wade or Lebron’s hands as much as possible. When it’s not, it should be in Bosh’s hands. None of the three has impressed me with their off-ball skills, so it’s time to use whats best. You have Chalmers and House who do not need the ball: ENOUGH WITH ARROYO
-Big Z is so much god damn better than Joel Anthony. What in the world are the Heat doing playing that guy so much?
-Bosh needs to get more in the paint. Taser him whenever he goes too far out.
-LeTurnover needs to work on his full-court passing.
-Spo is as good as gone if this keeps up.

  • http://www.slamonline.com NickthaQuick

@ Boss Terry That was actually between Rick Fox and Doug Christie (don’t remember who punched who) then it spilled out into the tunnells between Shaq and Floppy Divac. Kobe wasn’t actually involved in that melee…and while we’re off topic has anyone read that book by Bethlehem Shoals on the Guide to the NBA. Trying to decide if its worth reading.

  • rob

    @jdote : rose or rondo? neither. cp3!!!!!!!!

  • http://www.slamonline.com James the Balla

Juk’s I agree with everything. Joel Anthony is who I was complaining about since the first game, he is terrible. WHy is Bron not playing point? Hello Pat Riley.

  • http://thetroyblog.com Teddy-the-Bear

Felton is nice, but I repeat: Toney Douglas should START.

  • http://thetroyblog.com Teddy-the-Bear

Anton, the Raptors DID play good defense last night. They couldn’t stop Gasol because Bargnani is a horrible interior defender, but the 2-3 zone was working. The Raptors could have won that game if the tides turned for them–it was a good one.

  • http://thetroyblog.com Teddy-the-Bear

Who the hell wears a Miami Heat jersey to a Cleveland Indians baseball game?

  • T-Money

1- Spo ain’t going nowhere. You guys are out of your minds. The only way this happens is if they’re playing .500 ball by Christmas. 2- I’m with you on Arroyo. He has to go. Can’t wait for Mike Miller to get back. Only shooters should be allowed to play with Wade and James. (house, jones, miller). 3- Hear, hear on Z. The rotation should be Bosh for 36 mins, Haslem for 28, Z for 22 and Anthony for 10! I understand they have to play him because they made a 5-year investment but 10 mins is more than enough.

  • http://thetroyblog.com Teddy-the-Bear

Actually, Felton is playing pretty well right now–maybe a backcourt of Felton/Douglas? I have no clue why Landry Fields starts ahead of Wilson Chandler.

  • http://slamonline BossTerry

@ Nickthaquick- You are right, I just remember someone I hated got hit.. nice catch..

  • T-Money

Also, even when they’ll play like crap, all Heat losses will be of the last minute variety. Their margin for errors is huge. That’s a good thing.

  • http://sjfdklf.com Jukai

T-Money: You’re probably right about Spo. But I mean… Riley is honestly the best person in the world to coach this Heat team. It’s a real pity.
I also can’t wait for Miller to be back. I mean, if we had a Wade-Miller-Jones-James-Bosh lineup during that OKC game, I think that’s a surefire game-winning lineup

  • The Fresh Prince of Nsam

“Miami Big 3 of James, Wade and Ilgauskas”. Keep doing your thing Adam, tu assures!

  • CoolBreeze

    Very good Notes My Brotha!

  • JTaylor21

I used to defend CB1 in the off-season but no more. How the hell can a 6-10 long and athletic player grab 1 freaking rebound two games in a row? Damn, I used to get on LA and Amare for their sorry a** rebounding numbers but Bosh has hit a new low for rebounding futility. Wasn’t he the one that said that he was going to focus on rebounding and defense? Dude might cost this team a shot at winning a chip this year if he doesn’t get his mind right because Wade/Bron will get theirs vs the celts/lakers but if Bosh plays like his been playing so far they might not beat those teams. Also Carlos Arroyo has the be the most useless player in the entire L; dude can’t make an open J to save his life, gets eaten alive by each and every PG and can’t create plays for others. What the hell does Spo see in dude? A team like this doesn’t need a PG, just let Wade and Bron handle the ballhandling duties from now on.

  • http://www.triplejunearthed.com/dacre Dacre

LET ME REMIND YOU: I predicted Bosh’s numbers to drop to around 15 and 7.

  • http://www.triplejunearthed.com/dacre Dacre

ALSO: SHout out to ANTON K. His POST UPS are amusing, tight and memorable.

  • http://twitter.com/smileyoufckers Bryan

Felton, Gallo, Amare , Wilson and Douglas would require two balls. The Knicks rotation is just fine. Douglas and Chandler kill opposing second units. Fields is a long and gritty and fits in nicely with that starting unit.

  • Motown1

    terrible notes.

  • http://Slamonline.com Caboose

On another random note, I fail to see why Chris Duhon is considered an NBA player let alone a basketball player. C’mon Stan! Play JWill, not this bum!

  • http://thetroyblog.com Teddy-the-Bear

  • http://thetroyblog.com Teddy-the-Bear

The Rockets could have won all 5 games they have lost so far. Nice try fellas, but please just win one!

  • Jose

Arroyo’s like a famous rapper now, ya’ll aint heard his single w/ Yomo? lol.thats why they still have him….

  • Hammer

    Who’s yomo?

  • Hammer

Is it short 4 “yo momma”?

Fresh prince of Nsam….you are cameroonian right ..i live in yaounde too…i didnt know that there is a slam fan back there ..thumbs up….miami wins next year not this one…
