Post Up: No Roy, No Problem

While the Magic and Pacers cruise.

by Adam Figman | @afigman

Indiana 107, L.A. Clippers 80

Playing in the second half of a back-to-back, the Clips came out strong but fell apart in the second (and further in the third), as they dropped yet another one and reverted to 1-12. Rough stuff. The Pacers looked good, winning behind Danny Granger’s 22 and Roy Hibbert’s 18. They’re now 5-5, and my new sleeper to squeak into the 7th or 8th spot in the Eastern Conference Playoffs. Anyone agree?

Orlando 105, Phoenix 87

Without Steve Nash, or Robin Lopez, but mostly Steve Nash, the Suns didn’t stand much of a chance against an energized and healthy Magic team that came out firing. Orlando led 62-34 at half (is LOL an appropriate thing to write here?), and probably couldn’t look back even if they wanted to. Dwight Howard led his crew’s scorers with 20 (plus 12 boards) in only 30 minutes, and all five starters plus Jay ElectPietrus finished in double figures. They moved to 8-3, now a half game ahead of the Hawks for first in the Southeast.

Portland 86, Denver 83

After two blowouts, we were lucky to get some actual competition to cap this Thursday night off. These two went back and forth for the entire 48, but Portland was able to pull ahead in the fourth and hang on as Denver tried to put in a game-tying shot in the final seconds (amidst a few controversial no-calls). Lots of sloppiness in this one: the Nuggets shot 38.5 percent from the field; the Blazers shot 40 percent from the field and 50 percent from the line; Carmelo Anthony scored 18 on 5-15 shooting and fouled out with three minutes to go; and neither team reached 20 points in the fourth quarter (and the Nugs only scored 12 in the period). Impressive win for Nate McMillan’s guys, who took the W with their star Brandon Roy sidelined with a knee injury.

Performance of the Night: Not exactly our best POTN (actually, our worst?), but it’ll have to do. LaMarcus Aldridge: 24 points, 10 boards, 2 assists, 1 block.
Moment of the Night:
In the first half of an otherwise laid-back blowout, Vince Carter threw down a dunk that had me wondering what Frederic Weis is up to these days. Will embed a video here once one starts to float around the Net.

And that’s all she wrote, folks. Anton will hold you down all weekend, and I’ll be back here on Monday. See you ladies and gents then.

Some 39-win team is gonna be dragged kicking and screaming into the East playoffs. In that sense no team is a sleeper to me. Hell, the 6th seed is achievable for pretty much every team out there except for maybe the Sixers and Pistons.

Can retraction start with the Clippers? I mean, c’mon.

Yeah…Steve Nash never deserved those MVP’s…he doesn’t make any of the mediocre players around him better, the Suns seemed fine without him last night…

  • IAMORANGE4EVER

The clock is ticking in Denver!

  • JTaylor21

No matter how you may feel about CB34, dude does know what he’s talking about relating basketball because last night he pointed out what everyone saw; the nuggets are not playing with passion or a sense of urgency instead are just out there faking effort. There is no reason for a team this talented to be playing .500 ball and lose to a BRoy-less Por squad, no way. No one on the bench cheers when the team makes a great play even on that amazing pass by Melo, they were just sitting there looking like a bunch of zombies. Melo might want to rile up the trade talk again bcuz this team is going no where fast. Also Melo is the BEST scorer in the L hands dowd and anyone who begs to differ must have been tutored by Ms. South Carolina

The homie Nicholas Batum keeps impressing. Last he put the clamps on Melo and forced him into bad shots, turnovers and offensive fouls and also played well on the other end. Also cue this everytime, the Blazers play, ” Andre Miller has a old man at the Y game..”

@Nick T. Quick, Batum is my favorite Franco-Baller right now. I hope he focuses his efforts on becoming an elite defender and money from 3pt range.
SLAM, where’s the NBA Jam post?!

  • Mike from Spain

Poor Rudy Fernandez… I thought he would be able to take advantage of some extra minutes. He only did a 2 of 6 threes, and nothing much else.

Jay ElectPietrus?… did i miss something??

  • TrailBlazing&SportingLisbon

typical Barkley sh1t, taking the credit away from the Blazers, truth is we played good D and Wes and LaMarcus had nice games. Man, I expected the Clips to be kinda good, lol at that, and Suns really have 7 SFs

  • tRay

Great game, and huge win for us.. I love Roy just as much as the next Blazer fan, but wes really nice to see some “team” basketball”. Not just 1 guy bogarting the ball.. Wes Matthews isnt looking soo over-paid anymore..

  • http://slamonline BossTerry

  • tRay

@ LA Huey..I guess divorcing Franco-ballers no longer cut it on your favorites list, no?

  • http://twitter.com/BeezKneezy LA Huey

@NickthaQuick, off-court affairs rarely factor into my fandom but I was never a fan of Parker’s game. I respect the skill but not my type of PG.

If I was Brent Barry, I’d beat Tony’s little ass.. He’s French, so im sure he’d “surrender” after the 1st hit.. And Erin Barry.., You dirty, you’re a dirty whore, you need a nice hot bath to clean your filth off of you, you bad, dirty slut.. Maybe if your lucky, Brent will come in and piss in your bath-water, you dirty girl..
