Post Up: Same Story in Miami

Paul Pierce’s beautiful dark twisted fantasy comes true.

by Adam Figman | @afigman

Boston 112, Miami 107

Different location, same result. Only a couple weeks after taking the new-look Heat down at home, the Celtics went into Miami and took care of business once more. They jumped out to a 15-point halftime lead, and though LeBron and Co. did their best to get back into it, it just wasn’t going down for them last night. Boston had all of its pieces moving: Ray Allen scored 35 points off 7 three-pointers; Paul Pierce dropped 25; Rajon Rondo commanded the ball, distributed 16 assists, and did this to a poor and unsuspecting Chris Bosh (video embedded below); and Kevin Garnett went for 16 and 13 in the win.

The Heat, meanwhile, didn’t have the same fire. Bron was solid, putting up 35 points and almost banging out a triple-double with 10 boards and 9 assists. But that was about it. Dwyane Wade shot 2-12 and scored only 8; Chris Bosh, in what was supposed to be a big opportunity for him to prove his worth, did no such thing and went for 15 and 7; and though Udonis Haslem (21 points, 10 boards) was solid, Miami’s bench wasn’t of enough assistance. These guys are now 5-4, though, for what it’s worth, they’ve fallen to some great teams as of late: a Jazz squad led by Paul Millsap’s unreal heroics; a streaking and seemingly unstoppable group of Hornets; and now the Celts, undoubtedly the East’s best at this point.

Last note: Apologies for the slightly incomprehensible dek above. That new Kanye leak, er, advanced copy, has been bumping in both my headphones and the SLAM Dome all day, and I felt compelled to work it in here somehow. But, if I may say, it kind of fits. What, you don’t think the Truth reallllly enjoyed this one? Peep his post-game tweet:

It’s been a pleasure to bring my talents to south beach now on to Memphis

#shotsfired!

Chicago 120, Golden State 90

I had a weird feeling that while the world was watching the Celts and the Heat battle it out, the Warriors and the Bulls would go at it, with Steph Curry and Derrick Rose going head to head in what I figured would the slept-on game of the night. Well, like Biggie and Eminem, this guy was dead wrong. Chicago jumped out to a huge lead in the first half and held on in the second, playing fast and dominating GSW for the contest’s entirety. DRose (22 points, 13 assists) did his thing, while Luol Deng had an impressive 26-11-6 stat line in the W. Their team shot 54.8 percent (46-84), and when that kind of thing happens, the chances of coming home with a victory are pretty damn high.

Denver 118, L.A. Lakers 112

The Lakers looked like they’d take this one going into the fourth, until the Nuggets turned on the jets and took off in the final quarter. Kobe scored 34, but didn’t shoot too well (11-32), and Carmelo’s more efficient 32 off 14-25 shooting ended up on top. Los Angeles is now 8-1, leaving New Orleans as the only undefeated team in the L (you see that coming?). The Lake Show hosts Phoenix on Sunday.

Performance of the Night: Ray Allen: 35 points, 7 three-pointers, 1 rebound.
Moment of the Night: Chris Bosh asked, curiously: “Why do people keep calling me soft?” And Rajon Rondo answered: ”Here, let me show you.”

twighlight zone day. I agree with everything JTaylor just said. Except don’t run Utah’s offense, Joel Anthony and Miami’s PG’s Anonymous would never be able to fit in that type of offense. I would go with something Closer to Orlando’s offense except use LeBron or Bosh as the Pick man, with all those shooters who can’t do anything but shoot standing idly by spacing the floor. Other then that though JTaylor is on the money IMO

Enigmatic, I said my wife was “latina.” And yes, you’re late and I don’t care if you do live in Alaska. Slacker!

B, would you believe I had to first fire up my sled dogs with a rousing speech about intensity and forgetting egos and whatnot? Anyways, even though the Heat/Celtics game was on at the same time, I had a really hard time turning away from the Bulls game. It was a thing of beauty how badly we dominated. I really truly believe the best PG in the league is no longer a two man debate. Rose and Rondo have both forced their way into the convo.

The problem on that play is Lebron, not Bosch.

  • http://slamonline.com Bryan Crawford

@Paul: The Heat need a spark plug kind of player so badly that I’m sure they do wish his last name was “Bosch” and not “Bosh.”

Enigmatic, are your dogs named LeBron, Dwyane, and Chris?

  • izzo

Not sure if this has been discussed, I’m slightly behind. How long will they be showing that one play from the Heat game to illustrate Dwight’s shiny new post game? He’s developed a usable baby hook, he hasn’t turned into Kareem overnight. The announcers really used it as a crutch in the Jazz game, which is ridiculous since the Jazz have two guys who had better footwork and post moves than Dwight before they could walk.

@Enigmatic, i totally agree with you on that. 7 games in and rose is averaging almost 24 and damn near 10 dimes a game?? and boozer is out? i don’t see his points slipping and only his assists rising. just cuz boozers back doesn’t mean d.rose wont get his.

  • Pharoah

What happened to the pissd off LeBron James taking no prisoners and the us against the world mentality of the Heat. How do you come out so flat against the team that wooped your ass 2 weeks ago on national tv. LeBron is doing the same thing he did in Cleveland and getting the same results. Oh and stop complaining about your playing time and start working on your shooting, missing 2 free throws and bricking a wide open 3 in the last 4 minutes

  • T-Money

Pharoah: So LeBron should have done more last night? Okay.

  • http://thetroyblog.com Teddy-the-Bear

Pharoah obviously didn’t watch last night’s game, nor bothered to check the box score afterward.

  • Brian

Was LBJ on the court when the Heat fell behind by 20? People make it seem like he didn’t start playing until the 3rd Q. Oh wait, he didn’t.

  • Sparker

eboy, just outstanding. that is all.

  • http://slamonline.com nbk

Brian didn’t LeBron have 15 in the first half?

  • http://celticknightk3@aol.com Celtic Knight

Rondo’s dunk was the sickest and Lebron better be happy he didn’t get slammed on. Oh Bosh is the one that got slammed on LMAO!!!

Emiddleagedman, whats the status of operation:spo want to spend more time with his fam?

  • http://www.slamonline.com J

The Heat should run some Princeton sets, have LOTS of pick and roll, and a great facilitating PG. In order for them to be successful with that, they have to eliminate Arroyo in the rotation. They need to have a PG who is a good orchestrator and can be effective on spot-up 3′s (hint: 04 finals mvp). Also I thought LeBron was working on his post up game? That was non-existent last game. They should utilize him there to have more spacing on top-midrange area, where house, bosh, wade should work.

  • flipnoyce

Super Friends they are NOT!!! Maybe Lebron needs to go back to dancing, get loose a bit. Chris Bosh needs to grow his hair back to Predator, and DWade back to Flash. I don’t think coaching is the issue here its ego’s and leadership. They are the one’s that are playing the games, coach can only tell them what needs to be done. If they would have won last night people could have said easily, with these type of players around who needs a coach. 70 games is very much unlikely!!!!!

  • http://www.fiba.com Darksaber

    holy….
Kevin Love just had a 31&31 game vs the Knicks and they won. (Beasley scored 35, dayumn)

  • flipnoyce

@darksaber, Miami could use some Beasley right about now,lol

  • 80

Beasley shot 16-29 from the field and 2-4 from 3pt.

  • BostonBaller

If Ray’s play is going to be questioned in the playoffs please remember that he is indeed playing D on the other teams best non center player most series which means his offense will suffer alot like most players’ would. That is why most teams do not put their offensive star on the other teams offensive star 9 out of 10 times. Facts are facts..no excuses for Ray. As far as Bron or Wade, it’s true that they are guys who need the ball to be at their best which means they have to figure it out by the playoffs..they have time.
