Prokhorov: ‘We Don’t Want To Be The Knicks’

The Nets owner has a pretty simple message for the Knicks, who’ve been running ads that take shots at the team across the river. The NY Post has the scoop: “Nets owner Mikhail Prokhorov has a simple message for the Knicks: You are not worth imitating. In a commercial promoting Tuesday night’s Knicks-Nets game, MSG ran this voiceover: ‘Hey Nets. You can walk like us, you can talk like us, but you ain’t never gonna be like us. Knicks, Nets, Tuesday, 7:30, MSG.’ MSG produces the commercial, but both the Knicks and the network are owned by the Dolans. Prokhorov responded in a statement.’I don’t think we want to be like the Knicks. I think we’d more like to resemble the Lakers,’ the owner said as a shot towards the Knicks recent run of futility.”

    Boom in your face!

  • LA Huey Posted: Nov.30 at 1:31 pm
This is going to be the most heated rivalry between garbage-to-mediocre teams in the history of sports.

  • Sparker Posted: Nov.30 at 1:34 pm
how bad r the knicks? “recent run of futility” is an understatement

  • Hossy Posted: Nov.30 at 1:35 pm
“in soviet russia, tv watches you!”

  • Earl Posted: Nov.30 at 1:42 pm
I’d much rather be the Knicks than the Nets.

  • RobbieJay Posted: Nov.30 at 1:43 pm
    lmfaoo @ hossy;
if you move to New York your OBVIOUSLY gonna be compared to the Knicks. And i wanna be like Michael Jordan but you dont see that happening. BS owner, BS franchise.

One is the ugly chick who is smart and has a good personality while the other is the pretty chick who has tons of issues and character flaws.

  • DJ Posted: Nov.30 at 1:59 pm
You Know he’s right why would the Nets want to be like the most overrated Franchise in the NBA in the New York Knicks

  • IAMORANGE4EVER Posted: Nov.30 at 2:28 pm
The Nets are like that red headed step child compared to the Knicks in the Mecca. I’m so glad I’m a fan of such an iconic world class franchise in the Knicks, who by the way have the greatest fans in the world – always coming to support their Knickerbockers, even when they struggle! Oh and I just picked up a hardcover copy of Walt “Clyde” Frazier’s, “Rockin’ Steady: A Guide to Basketball and Cool.” Should be a good read, indeed! I’m looking forward to watching the Knicks notch their 10th win tonight at the expense of those pesky Nets in the Garden!

  • Jer Boi Posted: Nov.30 at 2:39 pm
Thank god the Nets arn’t like the knicks.

  • riggs Posted: Nov.30 at 2:39 pm
since when are the knicks overrated? everyone knows they suck, gtfo with that logic.

  • Kwame Posted: Nov.30 at 2:44 pm
@ earl i rather be dead than the knicks or nets lol

  • IAMORANGE4EVER Posted: Nov.30 at 2:56 pm
Just putting it out there: If Carmelo would sign an extension with the Nets, he’d already be a Net. Thing is, he wants to be a New York Knick and wear #30 like the REAL KING once did. Simply put, Carmelo aka Little New York just wants to come home and win, and teaming up with Felton and Amar’e is a better option than teaming up with Harris and Lopez who are the defending NBA Lottery chumps.

  • werd Posted: Nov.30 at 3:00 pm
@riggs Yeah everyone knows the Knicks suck but they’re overrated in the fact that they get so much coverage despite their horridness.

  • eLone Posted: Nov.30 at 3:44 pm
LOL at the logic “If Carmelo wanted to sign an extension with the Nets, he’d already be a Net.” Um, doesn’t that same logic apply to the Knicks? If he wanted to be with the Knicks, he’d be a Knick?

  • NJ4Life Posted: Nov.30 at 3:44 pm
As a Nets fan, I LIVE to watch my team beat the Knicks. They have this Yankees-like mentality, when they’ve been the worst team in the league for the past decade. The Nets are 81-79 all time against the Knicks, swept them out of their most recent playoff appearance, AND have won a championship more recently. That’s right the Nets have something the Knicks will NEVER have: an ABA Title. So Knicks fans, NY, stfu. Yeah it must suck to have James Dolan as an owner instead of Mikhail Prokhorov, but suck it up. You guys have been second best in the area for ten years and that’s not gonna change. Maybe Melo will send a postcard from Brooklyn.

  • IAMORANGE4EVER Posted: Nov.30 at 3:54 pm
@eLone – The last team the Nuggets want to trade Carmelo Anthony to is the Knicks. Real talk.

  • kousinkar Posted: Nov.30 at 4:40 pm
So why are they moving to New York?

  • Jackie Moon Posted: Nov.30 at 5:40 pm
“We want to be the Heat”

  • Sergio Posted: Nov.30 at 5:58 pm
The Knicks are and will be the Knicks, same old story. With the coach they have they can bring Carmelo but never are going to win a championship because they preach offense first and defense second; look at the past D’antoni with the Suns, the kind of team they have with the same player they just acquired and never reached conference final. What a shame.New York is about tv stars and famous people looking to kill some time before go to bed. That’s the kind of fans they have.

  • Jumpmanjay23 Posted: Nov.30 at 6:59 pm
@ LA Huey: That’s the truth…haha But damn this rivalry is getting interesting and intense between the owners.

  • MikeC. Posted: Nov.30 at 7:00 pm
Maybe Prokhorov doesn’t want to be the Knicks, but nobody wants to be on the Nets. Major FA splash with Farmar and Joe Smith. Actually, I feel bad for Joe. He’s a solid backup and a quality guy. Too bad he’s bounced around to so many crap teams. The Spurs couldn’t have found room for him?

  • MikeC. Posted: Nov.30 at 7:04 pm
@eLone – The things that’s holding up Melo’s trade to NY isn’t the extension. From what I’ve read, the Knicks just don’t have enough to offer Denver in a trade. All NY can really offer is cap relief with Eddy Curry’s expiring contract. NY has a couple of the young pieces that Denver wants in Gallo, Randolph and Chandler, but Denver likely wants two of those three, plus Curry’s expiring deal. Denver also wants at least one first round pick, which NY can’t offer since Isiah traded them to get Eddy Curry and Jamal Crawford, and Walsh had to give away a couple to get rid of some poisonous contracts to open up cap space. Right now, NY has about 75% of what it would take to land Melo.

well, it’s the Jersey thing !!!

  • Teddy-the-Bear Posted: Nov.30 at 7:30 pm
    Prokhorov > Dolan

  • The Nupe Posted: Nov.30 at 8:31 pm
Dumb ad in the first place – why would they think the Nets want to be like the Knicks? Nobody wants to be like a lottery team.

  • freeballer Posted: Nov.30 at 8:35 pm
Who would ever want to be like the Knicks? Terrible advertising by the Dolans.

  • BK Chris Posted: Nov.30 at 8:58 pm
Hands down the Knicks have better fans than the Nets! We have Spike Lee and they have guys sitting in the stands rocking paper bags to hide the fact that they are nets fans! Nuff said!

  • johnny c Posted: Nov.30 at 9:34 pm
i love this guy, gotta say it again, he’s my favorite NBA owner by a landslide. as a sidenote, the knicks are funny

  • IAMORANGE4EVER Posted: Nov.30 at 10:26 pm
On a sidenote, the Knicks just won their 10th game tonight (7th Knicks W out of last 8 games), while the Nets just lost their 12th game of the season. What a great game by Felton, Stat, and Will…The Thrill! I sure do love winning and grinning! Well, I must be a movin’ and groovin’. It’s been real!

  • Robb Posted: Nov.30 at 11:27 pm
lol Prokhorov’s a really cool guy

  • MusketeerX Posted: Nov.30 at 11:58 pm
Lopez is a great player. The rest of NJ is just plain horrible… Devin Harris hasn’t been the same in two years and doesn’t look like he is going to get any better.

When is the last time the Knicks got a ring? It’s been awhile, so you ought to stick to guzzling Midtown manjuice.

    Hossy ftw

  • AMac Posted: Dec.1 at 7:55 am
It must be awesome being a Knicks or a Nets fan… going to the arena to buy tickets on the night (always available at low-low prices), getting to watch world class players play (on the opposition team) and having your season end sometime before the baseball season starts to get into its swing.

  • EJ Posted: Dec.1 at 9:41 am
Nets don’t want to get dunked on by everybody.
