Report: Orlando Magic Open to Making a Major Trade

According to the Orlando Sentinel, the Magic front-office (which is also looking to trim its payroll) would pull the trigger on a deal for anyone on the roster, with Dwight Howard being the lone exception: “The Magic still are open to making a deal for either Carmelo Anthony or Chris Paul — they’re partial to Paul — and would part with pieces not named Dwight Howard. Even Gilbert Arenas would be in the discussion if he wasn’t owed gadzillions. Maybe Monta Ellis. The Magic are no fools: They want to win a title and they know they need either a big-time scorer or playmaker to get past the Celtics or Heat, and then the Lakers. They would even be willing to take a step back this season to restock if it meant they could land either Anthony or Paul. Vince Carter and all their youngish, proven pieces are available in some sort of blockbuster package: Jameer Nelson, Mickael Pietrus, Marcin Gortat, Brandon Bass, J.J. Redick and Ryan Anderson. When I asked somebody in the organization about such a possibility, that somebody never shook off my sign, never flinched.”

Melo with this team will make the NBA that much sweeter. Because even though my Heat are losing now, when everything comes together, they’ll be like Denzel’s Unstoppable. Imagine Jameer, Howard and Melo. wooow

and this is where teams go wrong. They tend to gamble on big trades and always end up falling flat (i.e. suns)

  • biged

Having Melo would be great. Howard gives them good defense, Melo would give them good offense.

    Half man half trade bait.

I had a dream last night that Phoenix traded Nash and Hill to Orlando for Lewis, Nelson, and a draft pick….

Now I see this post…. makes me worried something like that could come true.

Depending how much they would lose, a CP3 would be killer in any combination with Dwight! However, if they lose too many good role players then even those two combined will not be able to come close to the arsenal Boston or the Lakers have! I think the team they have now is pretty good, they shouldn’t try changing it too much because they could risk losing big time. Best would be getting a good player like Melo through free agency.

Half man Half the league not interested in him.

If the Magic landed CP3, I think they become the clear #2 in the East behind Boston. Remember the damage CP3 did with Tyson Chandler? I can’t see the Hornets giving him up this season and especially not if their success continues.

Dwight, Bass, Melo, Reddick, CP3…. in 2011-12 once Melo becomes a free agent and orlando clear cap room with a Cp3 trade

  • Groves

    ^wait. pietrus instead of reddick

    Dwight+CP3= GTFOTW

Unable to find a trade partner, Orlando release then re-sign Duhon to a $50 M deal.

Who has dreams about b-ball trades lol..”pale” u need more women in ur life

off topic….monta ellis deserves to be on a better team than the Warriors.

  • MikeC.

I haven’t seen a huge amount of Warriors games, so I’ll need someone on the West coast, or someone with League Pass to help me out. Is Monta a PG who shoots a lot because that’s what his team needs, or is he an undersized shooting guard? When I have seen the Warriors play, Ellis plays more like an undersized 2 (kinda like Iverson) than a 1. As for Ellis deserving to be on a better team, I say give the new owners, management and coaching staff a season or two to prove themselves. They seem to be building a decent core out there.

Oh so NOW they wanna cut back their payroll, huh? You bastards couldn’t have just let Redick go to the Bulls in the summer? That might’ve saved you some green right there.

Jameer Nelson, Rashard Lewis, Mickael Pietrus, Marcin Gortat, Brandon Bass, J.J. Redick and Ryan Anderson.
    to the heat for:
Lebron James, Eric Dampier, James Jones, Eddie House, Mario Chalmers, Jamaal Magloire and Juwan Howard

mikec, ellis is definitely an undersized 2. he isn’t being used to his potential if he has to become the distributor. as a scorer though, he’s on another level, so that’s why he always shoots a lot. deadly efficient though, and can score in so many different ways. also, his defense is surpremely underrated.

Monta Ellis aint going anywhere with the way things are going in Oakland. There’s nothing wrong with the Magic. They just ran into a driven Celtics squad that almost won the title last season.

    why melo leave from NY

  • Bob

The Magic need a rebounder and someone that can make shots within ten feet, that would open the middle for Dwight. Also need a taller point guard, Jameer just isn’t cutting it.
