Shaq Helping to Lighten KG’s Mood

O’Neal is making Garnett smile and laugh a lot more than he’d like to these days. From WEEI (via SRI): “On Shaq’s easy-going presence and if he thinks that’s had much of an effect on him: ‘Unfortunately, I do. I don’t like my mood to be lightened too much, man. I like to have an edge. When I take the floor, I like to be a certain way. I don’t do well when I’m giddy and kind of light. I do well when I’m dark and sort of concentrated. When I’m locked in, I look at myself as a threat. I don’t want to be too lighthearted when I go out there. Shaq is the opposite. He likes things light. He likes to keep you laughing. He likes the mood to be light. I think from Doc’s perspective — or anybody’s perspective — they tend to think that I’m too intense at times. And I can understand that. But hey, man, this is my makeup. This is who I am. This is what I’ve been for a long time. It’s gotten me to this point. Like anybody else’s personality it’s who they are. This is my makeup. This is who I am.’”

Shaq wouldn’t be all smiles and jokes the next season if he had lost a Game 7 in the Finals.

guess which nba great will live longer?

Kevin Garnett should have Delonte West slap him in the face just before gametime to give him his edge.

I’d guess the NBA great who has kept himself in shape his whole damn career and hasn’t put 100ibs on since his rookie yar will live longer. Which one do you think works out properly and eats properly?

KG is an intense dude on the court and I don’t see that ever changing. He has to play with edge and intensity. The moment KG loses his edge and intensity will be the moment he walks away from the game.

If Shaq was this intense he would have more than one MVP award and have at least seven titles by now. KG is fine and Shaq if had some intensity he would realize he is a joke now, but hey at least now he can play as a backup center who is overweight and good days have been long gone. BOOK IT!!

Two different ways of approaching the game – by looking at their careers I’d say both ways work pretty well. I wonder what this does for the team chemistry though. Right now it’s easy to be on the ‘lighter side’, however Over the course of the season when injuries kick in and if they lose a few in a row they may want a differnt approach. Not that it has to be all one way or the other, but both of these guys have major lockerroom presence and a balance will have to come.

I love the Shaq hate. Dude is taking care of business, though. He’s playing a lesser-role, but if called upon and given 30-mins-a-night, he’d put up close to 20-ppg (similar to his 2nd year in Phoenix). Shaq is still dominant.

on the court they play awful well together his screen settings is prolly the reason for ray allens outstanding shooting this year partly

Shaq has a lot of haters, I was one at one time, but I think he’s a great personality and it will be a sad day when he decides to hang-up those size 48 kicks..

Tarzan, were you expecting anything different from The Seed? He’s the second most ignorant person on this site aside from JTaylor

Hey Fam, I’ve been a fan of both guys and both approaches. KG is ultra intense during games but outside of the game he is pretty chill. Shaq is Shaq and no one can belittle his career w/out sounding bitter. If Shaq was more intense during MJ’s days he wouldn’t have gotten more MVP’s, during the middle of his career there were too many flashy players who garnered MVP votes so to say that he would have been better or had more MVP’s during his career is like saying this game is not a popularity contest. Now that both are on My team I hope they dominate in the playoffs and make it hard on the voters to award an MVP. lol. Green for 18 !!

Back to the topic: Shaq is one funny dude. Have you seen his videos with some NBA correspondents? Dude cracks yo momma jokes at him. Coming from a Laker fan I wish Shaq and Kobe would’ve worked out their differences , because they would’ve won more titles than this.
