Ainge: Rajon Rondo Out for ‘a Couple of Weeks’

by Ryne Nelson

Just as NBA announced that Rajon Rondo was on track to start in the All-Star Game this season, we get some tough news.

Although today’s X-Ray results have yet to be reported, Celtics president Danny Ainge said Rondo will be sidelined for at least a “couple of weeks” to relieve his ankle as well as his other nagging injuries.

From WEEI (via Chris Mannix):

Celtics president Danny Ainge made his weekly appearance on The Big Show, noting that the C’s will be without point guard Rajon Rondo for some time after he sprained his ankle during Wednesday’s victory over the Knicks.

“Rajon, I think, will be out for a couple of weeks, anyway,” Ainge said.

“I think that Rajon is young, and he heals fast and he loves to play, to his credit. I couldn’t believe he was back on the court last night. He wasn’t moving very well, even when he got back out on the court. You could tell he was still in a lot of pain, and certainly after the game it started puffing up. This morning there was a lot of swelling, and he definitely needs some time off.”

The injury means more minutes for Nate Robinson, who is averaging 7.7 points and 2.3 assists per game.

“Nate has been playing very well for us,” Ainge said, “and now he’s going to have to step it up and play more minutes.”

Injuries suck. Luckily for them, nate is more than capable. He will really spread the floor.

  • JTaylor21

This is not a good look for the celtics because rondo is their best player and creates open look for the big 3. Nate rob is no rondo.

  • Bruno

nate will really spread the floor??? don’t lie to yourself

nate does spread the floor. he can score from anywhere on the court and isn’t afraid to take it into the paint on bigger players. as a celtics fan, it definitely sucks that rondo is going to be out. but i know the celtics aren’t aiming for best record in the league. they’re aiming for banner 18. rondo will be back and stronger than ever.

Nate is more than capable. If you watched last night, he looked better than Rondo, at least for that game. He and the Celtics will be fine.

  • Jer dawg

No low tops for me. He didn’t even step on anyone’s foot yesterday! Never want to see anyone injured no matter if I dislike Celtics.

Low tops are no bueno. His ankle went all the way down. Terrible move by doc putting him back in the game.

good point jerdawg, he should be wearing some knee top shoes or something from now on haha

Damn. Both O’Neals, Perkins, West and now Rondo out.

should have known better.. and yes nate helps spread the floor more than rondo when he is out there cause he is a much better shooter..they are still a very very good team without rondo, jus not a championship caliber team

  • Mitya

And they keep showing those slow mo’s over and over, don’t know why, I turn away every time. Well, I just snatched Nate from waivers in my fantasy L.

  • ClydeSays

Blessing in disguise. Rondo NEEDS the rest. He’s been playing injured most of the season. Not convinced Nate can run the team for more than 15mpg, but he’s going to have to now. He STILL jacks up transition 3′s early in the clock. That’s a no-no for a bench player. ABradley will get some run. When does DWest get back? They could use him right NOW.

rondo is great but not real great!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Mitya

Clyde, Nate already started a few games and he was fine, and jacking up 3′s is ok in his case, in fact, that’s what he’s asked to do – provide the offensive spark off the bench. But he can dish as well, and boy do I need it on my team.

  • pwh

Hope that frees up some minutes for Avery Bradley, really want to see that kid play more.

Also hope that the Celtics get all of those injuries out of their system right now rather than later.

    rondo blows

  • mike

    @Tracy – You blow.

Nate can hold them down on the offensive end for sure, but they’re really gonna miss Rondo on D…at least it’s still early enough in the season for this not to be too big of a loss. The Celts are good enough without him to stay afloat. Rondo just needs to take plenty of time to get healthy.

    Only in your (wet)dreams Tracy…

  • paul

NaRob will be great. But Rondo will be missed. Even hurting he has been an MVP level player. IF we could just get him back at 100% the sky may be the limit. And Nate and Avery will have had a chance to develop.

  • biged

As a Lakers fan all I have to say is: HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH….

  • robb

No Rondo, no wins for the Celtics.

  • mike

    Really? They won tonight.

  • JTaylor21

Laker fans wonder why people hate their guts, biged is the perfect example.

  • robb

    @mike yeah they did. Damn!

  • Justin

They lost a great perimeter defender and their floor leader. But I’m sure Nate will a good job while Rondo is out

  • Crustified-Jalepino

I wonder what Nate said to Horford last nite coz Horford was going to make some Nate Robinson ‘Ricecakes’ :-)

  • Crustified-Jalepino

why u moderatin’ ? coz of ricecakes ?
    damn ! u whack.

  • Crustified-Jalepino

Celtics beat ATL last nite without Rondo , Nates fittin in nice & the Turkish cat stepped up. Boston r bad news for the rest of the league this year for shure.

The most recent bball shoes I bought were frickin ugly – lbVs: look like spats – BUT they were hitops with a strap and great ankle support. I does not liking the sprains.
