Amar’e Surprised by Free Agent Attention Chris Bosh Received

STAT was slightly taken aback by how much more coveted Bosh was over the summer. The NY Post, of course, makes it out to be as though Amar’e dissed Chris: “Amar’e Stoudemire has never understood why Chris Bosh came into July’s free agency rated as the top power forward available. Even Knicks scouts had Bosh rated higher, possibly because of Stoudemire’s health concerns and his contract not being insurable because of past microfracture surgery. ‘I was a little surprised by that,’ Stoudemire said after practice Thursday on the eve of the Heat-Knicks showdown at the Garden. ‘I’ve been in a winning situation my whole career. It’s been somewhat opposite for him. But he’s playing well this year. He’s been playing well his whole career. We go back to high school. I don’t compare myself to Chris at all.’”

So it wasn’t just me then?

I wouldn’t take Bosh over LAst season broken old KG let alone Amare

  • http://www.slamonline.com ShadiestBen

Don’t think many people have Chris Bosh being better than Amar’e now.

  • Cizzo

Chris Bosh is part of the Naaboo tribe from th movie Avatar except he’s black instead of blue… especially when he had hair he use to connect his hair to the Toronto Raptors tail…… Forreal….

  • Blackphantom

I could name about 5-7 PFs that are better than Chris Bosh, heck I think Blake Griffin is probably better than Chris Bosh

  • MUBWAR

Because he has a sweeter J than you and before this season he was eating you up in the rebounds, assists and efficiency.

  • MUBWAR

If I might add, he played as much games as STAT even if he got to the NBA a year later. Any other questions Amar’e.

  • hillbilly

@blackphantom Just change that “probably” to a “definitely” and you win. Thread over.

  • Crustified-Jalepino

Why be bitter Amare ? Karma can be a Beehatch especially when the Three Kings are in town. You wouldn’t fit into their system anyway coz you take too many shots & are too injury prone to fit in there okaaayy ?

  • http://www.peopleofwalmart.com/ Jukai

I actually debated this with some SLAM regulars during the free agency period. I said I thought Amare was SLIGHTLY better than Bosh, but I would take Bosh for three reasons:
    1) He’s slightly younger
    2) He’s much healthier— no surgery on his legs, no history of continuously getting hit in the eye because he juts his head out when he drives
    3) And this was one I retract ten thousand times over– at the time, I felt Amare didn’t really CARE about winning. Bickering with Marion and the coaching staff over his role on the team, wanting to play garbage time minutes, wanting to leave Phoenix for money and statistics… I just felt Bosh CARED about winning. Bosh looked so god awfully upset every year once that realization hit that his team sucked.
    I’ve reconsidered things since then.

  • Crustified-Jalepino

So what Amare is sayin’ is: Bosh should be playin with Iverson ? This is almost as bad as the Amare was never taught defence article.

  • http://slamonline.com Allenp

    SHOTS FIRED!
Amare is feeling himself right now, and I ain’t mad at him. I disagree with him, but I ain’t mad at him.

  • Just Sayin’

Because if you were in Toronto putting up your NYC numbers, no one would care either.

Because if Bosh had been playing with Steve Nash, there’s a very good chance he would have gotten better as well, and also not have received credit for it.

And also, like MUBWAR said, you’ve been in the league one more year, and you’ve only played 6 games more than him and you have identical stats career wise.

All the hype had to do with potential, not whether or not anyone liked Bosh’s game, and no one saw TO games, just the stats.

With that said, yeah, that was pretty much the NY Post playing instigator…

  • Bruno

I take Blake Griffin before Bosh anyday without no doubts

  • michael

amare playing 3rd banana to wade/lbj and his numbers might be down too. just like sticking bosh into dantonis system would probably have him averaging career highs. i would rather have bosh as a 3rd option than amare as a 1st option, no question.

  • T-Money

Amar’e is beasting right now but people need to realize that the main difference between the two of them right now is shot attempts. Chris Bosh was 24 and 11 last year as a first option – there’s nothing that suggests he couldn’t score 26-27 pts too in Mike D’s offense.

  • T-Money

Also, CB is a better jumpshooter, a better rebounder and a MUCH better defender (I didn’t think so either but the stats show that Amar’e is allowing a point per post up situations this year – which is absolutely horrible – whereas Bosh is allowing 0.5 points per post up situation). Finally, I think a lot of teams that were pursuing Bron/Wade felt that CB was easier to integrate as a supporting player than Amar’e who would have probably tried to take as many shots as the big dogs. I know very well that all of this doesn’t sound good right now because Amar’e is beasting but don’t get fooled by shot attemps – he wouldn’t be doing this in MIA and history shows that CB would be doing something similar to what Amare is doing if he were in NYK.

  • deshawn33

well guys, thats why it´s an inexact science..even the best of em screw up that prediction-thing..
see whitaker,lang..good heavens i still cant believe the hawks drafted marvin williams in the first place-let alone pay him like 8mil a year now..BUT:..it sounded like a good idea at the time..all you can do-make the decisions based on the information available at that point..
talent-wise i considered amare to be waaay above bosh at any time-for one i never thaught that much of bosh, but more than that, i always considered a healthy amare an mvp candidate..but could it all have gone terribly different?(and even worse, can it still..?)you never know if those previously damaged knees just might break down once again..for the sake of fandom, lets all hope it doesnt happen..

  • MUBWAR

Most people say Bosh had a great career and mostly stats because he was on a bad team. doesn’t that apply to Amar’e. A great player on a decent team(I never imagined myself saying that the knicks are a decent team, ever…But time changed)

  • http://bleacherreport.com/articles/408237-bryant-vs-jordan-theres-still-no-debate-jordan-is-king nbk

Amar’e's numbers aren’t up!! He is just shooting more shots

  • Sizzle

Are people forgetting STAT didn’t play any D when he was playing for the suns. Tremendous Offensive talent but never truly played any sort of D. Is he playing D now? I haven’t seen enough Knicks games to speculate……Can’t wait to see LeBron take his talents to NY tonight.

  • http://bleacherreport.com/articles/408237-bryant-vs-jordan-theres-still-no-debate-jordan-is-king nbk

No he isn’t playing any sort of defense. 31 & 31 from Kevin Love on Amar’e. 20 and 20 from Nazr Muhammad on Amar’e. 44 and 14 from Blake Griffin on Amar’e. Not he is not playing any defense

  • http://www.twitter.com/dfrance21 dfrance21

I’m sure Amar’e didnt volunteer this information. He was asked a question by a journalist trying to add more hype to tonights game and he gave his opinion. What was he supposed to say? “Yeah, Bosh was clearly the top free agent this summer, I’m just lucky the Knicks took a chance on me.”

  • tRay

Why do these retard superstars get suckered into the media like this? They only want a juicy story so they should just keep their answers short and concise that way they’re not misconstrude.

  • robb

Bosh is wrongly tagged as a PF. He’s a good SF.

  • T-Money

Really, the main substantial difference between the two is that STAT is a roller and Bosh is a popper off screens.

  • http://bleacherreport.com/articles/408237-bryant-vs-jordan-theres-still-no-debate-jordan-is-king nbk

no he’s clearly a power forward

  • Crustified-Jalepino

robb is right. Bosh is like a ritch mans Rashard Lewis.

  • Crustified-Jalepino

Yes . He’s a ritch mans Rashard Lewis.

  • http://www.peopleofwalmart.com/ Jukai

T-Money: I agree with the majority of your post, with the exception that Bosh would do as well in D’Antoni’s system. That, my friend, is a little off. Bosh runs the floor well but he’s very finesse. A lot of D’Antoni’s system involves unloading to your center and having him dunk over everyone at full speed.

  • Crustified-Jalepino

Blake Griffins numbers are up against Amare.

  • http://Philosophervision@blogspot.com The Philosopher

I have never been around a self proclaimed Jewish person who is jealous of another man. I have never been around Amar’e Stoudemire, either. Stoudemire, in my experiences then, is a fraudulent Jewish person.
For believers, jealousy is a sin.

  • T-Money

Jukai: Is that D’Antoni’s system or just Amar’e though? I don’t remember anyone getting the rock on the low block and dunking over everyone at full speed on last year’s Knicks team – and they were still scoring like crazy. In fact, David Lee was getting most buckets crashing the board and shooting jumpers.

  • http://slamonline.com Allenp

YEah, I agree with Jukai, that without Amare’s amazing rolls to the hoop, D’Antoni’s system doesn’t work as well.
Amare is better at offense. Bosh is better at everything, and I mean EVERYTHING else.
But, I hope Bosh gets pissed and goes at Amare’s head tonight. I like that Amare said what he said though.
“Who the hell is Chris Bosh? I’m Amare b*tches.”

  • http://slamonline.com Allenp

    Philo
You’re a Bible reader and you’ve never heard of a jealous Jewish person?
    Come on brother.

  • http://slamonline.com Allenp

    T-Money
And the system didn’t work as well with David Lee doing what he was doing. Rolling ot the basket makes everything easier in that system.

  • T-Money

But in the end, didn’t it work out for both? Amar’e was tired of being a sidekick and wanted to be the man. Bosh was tired of being the man and wanted to be a sidekick.

  • http://Philosophervision@blogspot.com The Philosopher

    Allenp:
    In my personal experiences, no.
In The Bible, of course there is jealousy throughout. That almost goes without saying.

  • T-Money

Allen: Isn’t that because Amar’e is a better player than Lee, instead of just the style of basketball they play? NYK scored 105 a game last year and 108 a game this year (they also give up more this year – 107). NYK has been top 10 in scoring ever since Mike D got there. Toronto was also constantly Top 10 in scoring during the Bosh era. // That’s also why I’m not taking the knicks TOO seriously right now: they’re still at the bottom of the L in defense and rebounding.

  • http://psp2423@yahoo.com Eboy

Ill take Blake Griffen over Karl Malone any day. LOL has anybody seen the shake ups commercial!

  • http://www.twofistedpress.com Pve84

Amar’e isn’t just a great roller but he’s turned into a certified GUNNER from mid-range. The number of contested jumpers that he fires always makes me cringe…until I see them repeatedly go in. He’s definitely stepped his game up. Sure his defense may be lacking, but has he ever had a coach who preached defense to him? Amar’e is asked to score and more importantly carry a team and he’s shown that he can do that. I don’t believe Bosh has ever shown the ability to shoulder the load of a team even though he’s had the opportunity in Toronto.

  • JTaylor21

As much as I love Amare’s game, I too would have choosen Bosh over him. Amare can score with the best of them but he can also get scored on with the worst of them. He’s in the same category as a steve nash, they willl win some games with their scoring but they will lose games in the playoffs with their lack of D. Bosh on the other hand, at least gives an effort on D and is having his best defensive season so far, he’s a way better rebounder, he possess an equal jumpshot, he’s better on the block, and he doesn’t have any desire to take each and every shot.

  • the truth

agree, i’d take bosh as my third option over amare as my 1st any day of the week

  • http://slamonline.com Allenp

How can we say Bosh can’t shoulder a team based on Toronto? He got them to the playoffs twice despite never playng with a point guard, shooting guard or small forward of the same caliber that Amare has had his entire career.
Hell, Raymond Felton is better than any point guard Bosh has played with, and overall, the Knicks are a way more talented team. Andrea is probably better than Gallo by a hair, but at least Gallo is capable of driving to the rim once somebody reminds him that he should try it. And Chandler is really undderrated.
Anyway, Amare is nice, and he’s being given the chance to do what he does well, and his team is winning. Good for him.
But, Bosh does more, and I’d wager that he’s going to show Amare tonight exactly what he can do. Bring it on!

  • http://www.need4sheed.com Tarzan Cooper

Nash is playing great in o antonis system this season.

  • http://bleacherreport.com/articles/408237-bryant-vs-jordan-theres-still-no-debate-jordan-is-king nbk

Uhm Gallo can play defense Allen, lol andrea bargnani couldn’t guard George Mikan, today

  • http://bleacherreport.com/articles/408237-bryant-vs-jordan-theres-still-no-debate-jordan-is-king nbk

i don’t mean he (Gallinari) is good at defense, I just mean he is somewhat capable kind of. Bargnani might as well stay on one side of half court.

  • doyouwantmore

    Bosh will prove himself.

  • http://www.slamonline.com ShadiestBen

I was thinking yesterday that Gallo is really starting to make the effort on D. He is also taking the ball to the rack. Andrea doesn’t really do too much of either.

  • http://www.twofistedpress.com Pve84

I feel like Bosh brought them to the Playoffs when the East was a significantly weaker conference than what it is now. Once the Bobcats and the Bucks became relevant (i.e. last season) the Raptors were nowhere to be found in the post-season. Let’s not forget that Calderon had at least one solid season in the Bosh era, although you’re right about there being holes at every other position. Bosh is a great player and would probably play even better as a second option, but I sincerely doubt that he could lead a team on his own the way that Amar’e is, especially under the scrutiny of New York.

  • http://slamonline.com Allenp

I agree Ben and NBK. He’s better than Andrea at getting to the rim and defense, but that ain’t exactly hard to do.
Man, Andrea is so soft. It’s sickening how soft he plays. He needs to go to the Dirk School of Toughness. For real. Dirk used to be soft. He’s still finesse, but he ain’t soft anymore.

  • http://bleacherreport.com/articles/408237-bryant-vs-jordan-theres-still-no-debate-jordan-is-king nbk

Cosign AllenP, Andrea needs to call up that guy Dirk spends every summer with. Or maybe just hang out with Mike Tyson w/ a phil collins soundtrack in the background to toughen him up

I guess when you’re straight beasting, you gotta let ‘em know!
Never a STAT fan, or a Bosh fan but right now, it’s silly to rate Chris over Amare. But then again, no one saw Bosh limp coming…what’s going on there…

  • IAMORANGE4EVER

Bosh didn’t do ish at Tech or Toronto. Amar’e is right to take a jab at RuPaul. Can’t wait for tonight’s game! Go Knicks!

  • http://bleacherreport.com/articles/408237-bryant-vs-jordan-theres-still-no-debate-jordan-is-king nbk

Officially, Knicks fans are more delusional then Lakers fans. Slam is about to get slammed with delusion over the next couple years

  • tRay

    @nbk
I never thought that was even possible lol

  • ClydeSays

The injury history, the uninsurable knees and poor (No One Ever Taught Me) defense definitely would make you think about Amare twice. He’s a very good inside/out scorer and rebounder, but giving him 100mil is a pretty big risk. Bosh might not be as talented, but he is younger, healthier and cheaper.

  • O

I’ve been hearing ALOT about Bosh playing for “the other team” too. And I don’t mean the Heat. What’s really good with that? Is that why everyone is calling him Rupaul, The meat in-between the two slices of bread and Chris Kross??? And i’m a Knick fan to the heart, but I say the Heat are gonna whup our ass. We got no defense…

  • http://www.need4sheed.com Tarzan Cooper

O, whatchu talkn bout willis!?. Really, I dont care.

  • http://slamonline.com Allenp

    Gay rumors?
    Really?
I’m saying, I thought Lakers fans were bad, but good Lord it appears Knicks fans are ready to challenge anyone now that their team is showing a pulse. This is crazy.

  • O

Man, idk. That’s what my peeps been telling me for a while, and they ain’t Bosh haters. That’s just what I hear. Not that there’s anything wrong with that. I could care less, but IAMORANGEFOREVER called dunny, RuPaul. Thought that was a reference to that rumor.

  • tRay

Not like t his matters but I’m pretty sure Bosh is married.

  • Blackphantom

Ok I’m chainging that “porbably” to a definitely now that I consider Chris Bosh almost seems scared to play in the post compared to B-Griff

  • http://slamonline.com Allenp

Shaq called Bosh “RuPaul” last year. That’s where it comes from.

  • IAMORANGE4EVER

SMHLOL, Shaq comes up with the best nicknames. That RuPaul one stuck with Bosh like Richard Simmons does with an extra sweet male airline steward.

  • OvaChicken

Its the end of the first quarter & Miami got 34 & they own NY already. LBJ just went behind the back to dampier. Amare got 6 , Bosh 8 . Amare missed both freethrows. All you vats that hate Bosh for nothin’ EAT IT. King James might mess around.

  • OvaChicken

Since Amare never went to college he should stay away from the media. This could get ugly.

  • OvaChicken

Can Amare score And1s with his left like Bosh with his right ? em NEVER !

  • Vince5

Bosh has a lot of potential, while it’s the same with Stoudemire, he never played with a player like Steve Nash. We didn’t know if Amare without Steve would have work and Bosh’s production was almost garanteed.

  • Mike from Spain

2nd quarter NYK 3 up… damn, some Wilson Chandler dunk there

  • OvaChicken

+ i think his 30 point average over the last whateva games is OVA CHICKEN !!!

  • OvaChicken

@Shadiestben :Amare is 5-13 at the half. See your first comment how about now? :-)

I have been saying for a long time that Amare is better than Bosh. I would have taken Amare over Bosh last year and years before. Amare is finally the first option, Bosh is now the 4th option. So of course Bosh needs more shots, but I would take Amare. BOOK IT!!

  • OvaChicken

Book what ? Bosh is now 4th option ? he he Amare & the Knix aint got no D whatsoever & they just got schooled by Miami. Im takin Bosh as the 3rd option in Miami over Amares first anyday. Seed you frazy !

  • OvaChicken

    IT’S OVA-CHICKEN !!!!

  • ryan

Amar’e is a chump who likes to talk way too much and his team is going to get crushed in the first round of the playoffs again this year. Chris Bosh will be better next year.

  • bashmo

    this was pretty misleading.

Stoudemire played his whole career with the top passer in the nba that made things wayy more easier for him on offense. Finishing off the pick and roll was sumthing he learned to master and was a massive part of his offense. Now he is recieveing attention as the guy with the ball in his hands all the time…and he has come up big. However, Bosh hasnt played with a big name star at all until this point in his career, which is why his numbers are impressive. He averaged 24 ppg 10 boards last year and has a more versatile offensive game than stoudemire.

  • bashmo

Oh and for the record STAT and Bosh are very similiar players. Neither play great defense, however I give the edge to Bosh. Both of them lack a real post game, however Bosh is slowly developing a back to the basket game. And they like to attack the basket/shoot midrange jumpshots/jab step to the drive.

Bosh is a better all around jump shooter, and Amare can attack the basket better, however Bosh can finish with either hand on the drive better than stoudemire and slightly more range with his jumper.

  • http://www.slamonline.com/online/media/slam-tv/2010/08/video-michael-jordans-love-of-the-game/ notblack

NOBODY knows that his 2 years ago he LEAD the leage in freethrows.

  • al

    rodman over bosh

  • JC

in a league full of bad contracts, you know there are bound to be many stupid GMs. why should we be surprised of Conley’s new contract ?

  • Blackphantom

    co-sign Al

  • Aaron

Surprised no one mentioned the real reason every GM had Chris Bosh over Amare. It was simple every GM knew that if they signed Chris Bosh LeBron James would follow. He wanted to play with Bosh more than Wade in the end since he likes being paired with a big man.

Also there is the Injury issue Bosh so far has avoided serious injuries in his career Amare hasn’t. They also really had the same knocks against them both can score real well for PF’s but both don’t really play Def. (Amare has played a bit more physical def this year, though Bosh has been playing some good fastbreak defense with pass deflections and steals during the win streak.) There’s also age while Amare is young he’s got more miles on his legs being a straight from Highschool guy.

  • BIll

Amare lets get real, Steve Nash is the reason your team was winning. If you were the first options, the raptors would have a better record with their bad rosters.
