Carmelo Anthony to Only Sign an Extension in New York?

I suppose it depends which reporter and their so-called “sources” you want to believe when it comes to the latest in the ‘Melo-drama: “Sources have routinely said that Anthony will likely sign the three-year, $65-million extension and then be traded, by the trade deadline, to either New York or New Jersey. Anthony, meanwhile, has been very coy in public. But on Sunday, admitted — in regard to the extension — that ‘whatever decision that I make, that’s the first thing I get done.’ Of course, the Nuggets could decide to trade him to any of the teams in the league. So Anthony was asked: What happens if they trade you to a team you don’t want to play for? ‘I don’t think that’s going to happen,’ Melo said. A source told ESPN.com that Anthony will only sign the three-year, $65-million extension if traded only to the Knicks. But a league source refuted this alleged ultimatum to The Denver Post on Sunday afternoon. Before the game, Nuggets exec Masai Ujiri said of his attachment to Anthony: ‘I have a special relationship with the kid. It’s been a joy. In your mind, you wish it was different, but the situation is what it is. I understand the situation. Yes, I love (Melo) to death and sometimes you wish it was different. But I have to do my job.’”

What does any of these even mean?

  • Illydiva

@Dacre, I thought it was just me. I don’t understand any of it either.

It means we’re gonna hear alot more of this crap before anything if anything will ever happen.

Fu*k Melo. Dude’s holding the Nuggets hostage. Hopefully the Knicks have to give up some good sh*t to get him.

  • http://www.triplejunearthed.com/dacre Dacre

ugh.. I’m sick of guys sulking till they get to the the team they want to join.

I really don’t wanna see Melo with the Knicks. It will ruin the whole idea people use to have about the knicks, a losing record year in and year out. Serious talk, a trio of STAT, Melo and Felton isn’t that bad. a 55 win team.

I LOVE Carmelo’s fire and desire to play for the Knicks.

It’s likely Carmelo wouldn’t average as many shots per game if he played with Amar’e. Simply put, you give up some shots to win some chips.

What about the fire and desire to play for the team that drafted him?

I think that melo would be fine having to take less shots as long as it brings him closer to a chip. Taking all the shots and being the so-called “man” in denver has led to nothing but first-round defeats and underachieving losses to the lakers.

Chris Sheridan is the one reporting this. He is a homer piece of sh*t reporter. He has no credibility. It angers me that this fool has a job.

Seriously, how many times can you be wrong about someone coming to the Knicks before your boss starts questioning your sources? If I was wrong 95% of the time at my job I’d be fired.

+1 JTaylor21. Carmelo would play the Paul Pierce role for the Knicks.

I’ve watched Melo his whole career, and live in Colorado. As a fan, I hate to see him go, BUT in all honesty, Denver moves the ball so much better when he’s NOT on the court. Get JR Smith some playing time and Gary Forbes the starting spot. If we could pull Gallinari, Chandler, and a draft pick, I’d send his cry baby booty to NYC. Let him rot there. NYK will not have the ability STILL to beat the Heat and the Celtics. He’ll have a much tougher time in NYC than in Denver. ONly difference is that in DeAntoni’s system he won’t be asked to play any difference….GREAT scenario for a lazy defensive player…especially one who is obviously slacking this year on the court.
In other news, the movie “Maverick” is a classic!

  • JTaylor21

Orange, what do you think about the report of the knicks having to trade Gano, Roy candidate Fields, and a first-round pick just to get melo? It seems like they are giving up too much just for one great player or is it worth it?

Now that the knicks winning some games Spike lee probably having wet dreams about Carmelo in a Knicks uniform.

  • Saku 39

Don’t want him here in NY. He wouldn’t mesh well with Amare and would hurt the games of Gallo and Chandler. I think the only Nugget I would take is Nene.

  • http://theurbangriot.com The Nupe

If this is true, certainly gives the Knicks a lot of leverage. I’m not sure Melo/Amare can get past Boston, Miami, or even Orlando, but they certailnly put themselevs in the conversation. If CP3 now try’s to make his way to NYC too, then the east would really be interesting.

  • hoodsnake

Is this news or is this a rumour?

  • Pharaoh

    MELO TO NY!!
East is gonna be stacked if this happens

  • http://www.slamonline.com melo

bakers dozen u must be stupid if the nuggets wanted gallinari chandler and a draft pick the knicks wouldnt do it thats a terrible trade

  • bakers’-dozen

Earlier in the season the offer from NYK that was refuted by Denver was Gallo, Chandler, Curry, and potentially Anthony Randolph. The Nuggs turned it down because they wanted draft picks as well. Do your homework before calling somebody stupid. OH yeah, and get a better screen name.

@Jtaylor21 – I don’t want to lose ROY Candidate Landry Fields! I’d have to tell the Nuggets to shove it, and let Carmelo come for nothing in the summer. lol

Melo’s decision: whatever his wife tells him to do.

  • Luiyo

THe Knicks can’t lose Landry Fields! He’s the only player that does the dirty work, excellent IQ, good (could be excellent in the future) shooter, plays defense, hustles on EVERY single play and is a natural SG, the position that they struggle to find somebody at the beginning of the season… He’s perfect for the Knicks future, young and with a winning mentality

  • http://www.triplejunearthed.com/dacre Dacre

The Knicks Offense is rated as the 3rd best this season under “no D’Antoni” so Melo’ coming in doesn’t improve that, it just means the offense needs to be-organised….essentially less offense through Amar’e. I’m not sure thats what HE wants…

  • DEEZ

If knicks have to give up galo or chandler they mine as well wait until the summer because the chemistry with those dudes, amare and ray felton is solid…..but he will be a knick!
