Carmelo Anthony Willing to Accept Trade to Nets?

by Marcel Mutoni@marcel_mutoni

Melo‘s preferred destination remains the bright lights of Madison Square Garden, but should the New Jersey Nets find enough suitable talent to surround him with, Anthony may be willing to sign a contract extension there as part of a trade.

According to Yahoo!, Denver and New Jersey are discussing a complex, multi-team trade that would land Carmelo Anthony in a Nets uniform:

Anthony is inclined to accept a trade and contract extension with New Jersey over his preferred choice of New York only if the Nets are able to bring back a package of significant talent with him, league sources involved in the talks said on Monday. So far, there are trade scenarios that include a combination of Anthony’s Denver teammates – including forward Al Harrington – and other league players coming to the Nets.

“The way this is structured now, the Nets will significantly upgrade their team,” said one NBA executive involved in the talks. Said a Western Conference executive whose team has pursued Anthony: “’Melo wants something similar to the Orlando deal, where he won’t have to go into New Jersey – or anywhere he’s going – without some help right away.”

The report claims that Brook Lopez is the only Nets player that’s been deemed untouchable.

With the trade deadline looming ahead, and a possible lockout next summer (which threatens to significantly cut into player salaries), Anthony has little choice but to be willing to sign a long-term deal with the team that he lands on, even if it isn’t his preferred destination.

There’s also some light chatter about some title contenders willing to trade for Anthony this season without the guarantee of a contract extension.

    and then?

  • riggs

oh god i hope he doesnt go there.

  • http://studmuff73.blog.com/ Zabba

For Brook Lopez to be deemed untouchable, that means Lopez is better than Carmelo. Come on, he’s a terrific player, but not that kind.

  • http://www.slamonline.com Anon e Mouse

Come on now Zabba, how many 2nd year pro’s do you know that are a legit 7 foot, scoring 19 ppg and started in every game last year? He could wear the infamous “check my Stats” T-shirt and not look stupid.

And no one said he’s better than Mello but yes he certainly is untouchable in my books.

  • http://www.slamonline.com Anon e Mouse

Oh yeah, don’t do it Mello!

I hope u don’t end up there Melo. 2 teams in the same city but it feels like Lakers and clippers. MSG is awaiting your grand entrance.

  • riggs

@zabba: that’s not what it means at all….also i agree with Anon about brook and it should be added that he is STILL learning and getting better.

  • Edan Aharony

Carmelo Anthony in a Brooklyn Nets uniform? Maybe that can lure him to the big apple with a big fat contract and other perks a Russian oligarch can only provide. Edan Aharony

  • TrailBlazing&SportingLisbon

thats sh1tty, knicks should jump on this..

  • ClydeSays

On paper, a Harris, Lopez, Melo line up would be decent…

  • PapaBearATL

Idk, it’s seems Lake Show is clearing cap space with Sasha, ripe for a sign and trade? Bynum and/or Artest packaged with a Luke Walton, anyone? Melo and the Mamba are good friends? Jersey would be a horrible move, they would have to trade the pieces he would need to be successful, him and Lopez would not be enough.

  • ClydeSays

There is No chance for Melo going to the Nets.
Besides Lopez who is no superstar what else can the Nets Trade. They are one of the worst teams in Basketball. Favors can not even crack the star studded Nets line up. Harris you may say. Then who will be left? LOL
Those number one draft picks LOL look at this years draft the early 1st round draft picks I would rather have Cap room then saddle myself with lousy rookies.

  • http://google c_cantrell

^on paper is the only way it even looks close to decent lol

  • JTaylor21

Another lie fabricated by the media and yahoo sports’ always acting like they are in on every nba story. The same ish happend last year with bron and they are doing the same with melo. Don’t believe anything things these morons say until you see it with your eyes.

  • robb

    Yahoo sports sucks

  • http://google c_cantrell

very true.. jus think back to the lebron years..

  • AT33

He needs to wait till the summer and join the Knicks as a free agent, that way the Knicks wouldn’t have to give up so many players just to get Melo.

  • http://Eboy Eboy

yes, yes, yes, finally melo will get traded….but to the NETS??!! WTF is melo thinking, GO TO THE KNICKS!!! the nets will never have a chance at a title, but with amare playing his ass of and young talent risingl, we may have a future championship team if melo goes to NYC.

  • bakers’-dozen

Denver Post reporting that the Nuggs want to see what their full team looks like healthy (whcih has yet to happen this year). That tells me that Denver thinks it may be worth keeping Melo if they feel they can reach the finals with their current team. Then they’ll try and see if they can get Melo to sign since they had proven to be contenders. It’s risky, but with no trade imminent, this must be their thinking.

  • Blackphantom

I hope Melo wont go to freakin New Jersey, c’mon now, that’s a pretty bad franchise

  • JTaylor21

Denver even if Alex English walked through that door is not reaching the finals with the Lakers still roaming the earth.

Leave English outta this convo, he is in Toronto helping the young onez. Mostly Amir

  • bakers’-dozen

the Lakers won’t beat the Spurs this year. Not many teams could.

  • Blackphantom

We’ll see in the playoffs about Lakers-Spurs.
Have they even played against each other yet this year?

  • NJ4Life

  • Blackphantom

Nope my Lakers don’t play the Spurs til Dec. 28th

  • Jose

you dont trade your big man, Orlando was fortunate to have two great centers and were able to let one go…. you can’t make it w/o a big, or its difficult to do it w/o one anyway

  • bakers’-dozen

That will be a good game.
I still think the Celtics are the team to beat this year, though.

My insider says Melo is a lock to go to Cleveland.

  • bails1

This is official. Just read it off of yahoo! sports. Melo to Sac for Pooh Jeter and Darnell Jackson. Nuggets wanted Luther Head but he was deemed “untouchable”.

  • http://www.need4sheed.com Tarzan Cooper

Bails, funny. But pooh jeter is nice

  • MusketeerX

Just seems strange. Melo wants to be on a better team than the one he has right???? Love Brook Lopez, but even if they could keep him and Harris, I still don’t think they have the talent to compete for one of the elite spots in the Eastern Conference right now.

Say NJ keeps Brook Lopez, trades for Carmelo and Al Harrington, who would they try and add with them? The only person I can think of that is available and obtainable is OJ Mayo. So Jordan Farmar, OJ Mayo, Carmelo, Humphries and Lopez as your starting 5, sounds sketchy….but what else is available?

  • Shem

    its young GUNZ**

  • biged

I got an idea…..richardson, nelson, turkalu, a draft pick, plus a couple of other pieces for Melo. I wouldn’t sleep on Orlando, there gotta b a reason y they just sign like 20 gaurds. arenas, melo and dwight wont b too bad???…..

  • http://bleacherreport.com/articles/408237-bryant-vs-jordan-theres-still-no-debate-jordan-is-king nbk

Denver won’t take anything but a future all star for Anthony. If Orlando wants to get in the Carmelo sweepstakes, like New York they will need to find a third team. (Houston IMO has the best chance of landing him outside of NJ and NYK because they have Kevin Martin, Kyle Lowry, and Jordan Hill – if they can package them with picks then Denver won’t say no, it’ll be up to Melo)

  • http://thetroyblog.com Teddy-the-Bear

@ ClydeSays: People need to get away from that “Let’s have cap space over draft picks” mentality. Let’s face it–smaller market teams aren’t going to be landing big name free agents, especially if they’re bad teams to begin with. The best way for a team like Denver to rebuild would be with draft picks–finding the next Derrick Rose or Dwight Howard with whom they can ACTUALLY build a team around. Do you really see a future free agent like Dwight Howard going to DENVER when his contract is up? The Knicks are lucky to have landed Amare (and they’re in NEW YORK), otherwise the cap space maneuvering would have seriously, seriously screwed the team over. They are also lucky Isiah drafted Wilson Chandler and Walsh drafted Danilo Gallinari.

  • http://www.need4sheed.com Tarzan Cooper

Orl may not be done dealing.

  • http://slamonline.com Allenp

Who is the future star in the Nets trade? Devin Harris?
Why would they start Kris Humphries over Al Harrington? It ain’t like Humphries adds that much bulk.

  • truthteller

but why does melo want to leave Denver? denver really isn’t a bad team?

  • truthteller

And guys, Denver needs to trade melo if he doesn’t want to be there because if they don’t, he will walk next year and the Nuggets won’t get anything for him. They should learn from lebron! but honestly, i don’t know why Melo wants to leave denver. denver isn’t a bad team.

  • http://bleacherreport.com/articles/408237-bryant-vs-jordan-theres-still-no-debate-jordan-is-king nbk

The nets would give Denver Derrick Favors as the future star ANd I assume (since Humphries keeps grabbing double digit rebounds and Avery loves rebounds and defense) that Al would be the guy to come off the bench. Like a big giant Jet in Dallas

  • O

    Melo, don’t play yaself!!

  • http://yahoo ddub

Papabear, what are you smoking,Bynum and Artest for Melo, child please!! he is a tad over rated, and we dont care how good a friend he is to Kobe, aint and wont happen!!!

  • http://all33sports.blogspot.com layOFFtheHATERADE

NOOOO! not the nets! let him go to the Knicks.

  • http://zoran_dakovic@hotmail.com RickyRude

Melo is dumb as hell. I know you maybe lost your motivation to play for Denver, but at least if they’re all healthy, they can be threat to any team in the NBA. If he goes to Nets, even if he brings along some of his teammates, he will be be happy to make the Playoffs, let alone be spoken of in any serious contention. It will take them years to rebuild and be on track, even if he’s there. This is getting ridiculous and making me almost wanna wish he does go to New Jersey and watch him wine.

Get your sh*t together young man, give it all you got, play out your final season in the team that drafted you since you’re all about “loyalty”, give it all you got and see how far it takes you, then next year go wherever you want if you’re not happy.

    Simple as that.

  • riggs

lost his motivation?? have you seen him play recently? the hell you talking about.

  • bnets

hahah u guys sayin Nets have no chance, they have the best available pieces to trade with Denver, Nets have the best chance in landing him lol

  • danmcdirty

@ bnets: they got the best pieces to trade. but melo wants to play for the one and only team in ny: the knicks. so its all on him. do you really think the nets would risk to overhaul heir roster for him jus to see him signing with the knicks next summer? i dont think so

  • http://www.triplejunearthed.com/dacre Dacre

I still don’t like the idea of a player picking exactly where he goes and who he goes with etc…
and if he wants to play with a select cast of fellow nuggs…… stay in Denver?

  • http://zoran_dakovic@hotmail.com RickyRude

@riggs: I said motivation to play for city of Denver. I didn’t mean his game overall. I know he’s been putting up amazing numbers but still.

  • http://studmuff73.blog.com/ Zabba

For them to claim Brooks is “untouchable” means he is “untouchable.” In whatever scenario you can come up with, Brook Lopez cannot be part of a trade discussion, including a ludicrous Carmelo for Lopez trade.

  • bnets

@danmcdirty: what do u mean overhaul the roster? Nets would only give up 2 players, knicks would have to give up 4 or 5 since they dont have a 1st round draft pick. Melo would sign that extension with the Nets because of the possible lock out this summer that would cause him lose millions. As Melo is running out of time, Denver is getting the leverage
