Game no. 1000 Makes Tim Duncan Feel Old

Timmy D would have rather not been informed of the career milestone he reached last night. The Express-News has the details: “As milestones go, it was one Tim Duncan would have preferred to pass without comment. Knowing Sunday’s game against the Trail Blazers was the 1,000th NBA regular season game of his career only made a 34-year-old feel older. ‘I was not aware,’ he said after scoring eight points and pulling down 13 rebounds in just 28 minutes and 11 seconds at the AT&T Center. ‘I would rather not be told that. I’ve played for a long time and I’m getting really old. I wish I’d only played 10 (games) and still have 1,000 more in front of me.’ Duncan became the 94th player in league history to play 1,000 games, and only Scottie Pippen won more of his first 1,000 games than Duncan’s 707. Pippen went 715-285 in that span, all with the Bulls.”

It all good “Big Fundamental”. You put in work in those 1000 games. And everybodys has to get old sometimes. Duncan use to abuse KG,Shaq,Rasheed,CWEBB, and all the other PF and centers. But he really use to make KG his B1tch in the playoffs

  • http://www.twitter.com/chris_griff_3 Chris_Griff_3

Best PF to ever do it!

  • http://www.twitter.com/chris_griff_3 Chris_Griff_3

Did Minnesota and San Antonio ever even play each other in the playoffs?

  • http://Mrjones21901@aol.com Run’n'Gun219

@chris_griff^ yeah they have played each other in the playoffs.

  • TheTruth

    @chris_grif_3
Yeah they did, and it was funny cause kg said “we’re gonna shock the world by beating the spurs” I think the spurs won that series in 5 or 6 games can’t remember which.

  • http://www.bulls.com Enigmatic

At least he know he’s getting up there in age unlike “The Big Denial” Shaq and all those other dudes who think they can still play like they’re in their 20′s. And Timmy can still have monster games every once in a while.

  • RedRum

I put him ahead of Bird, and only behind MJ and Magic as the best players ever. There… I said it… if you look at his numbers, wins, rings, and ability to play both ends of the court equally well, he is the player I would pick after the two MJs. Maybe ahead of magic, given that he need two HOF post players to achieve what he did.

  • Ronald

I honestly see no evidence of TD slowing down. His production is down yet his per 36 (usual mmpg) stats are better than the last few years and his defense is even better than last years (due to less offensive load).

  • Tyquez

tim is not the best pf. dirk, kevin, amare,

  • http://Mrjones21901@aol.com Run’n'Gun219

Tyquez- we are talking best pf of all time. not the best pf in the nba today. and if you think they are better than timmy, you should have your leauge pass revoked

  • CONEY ISLANDER

@Tyquez Let’s play jeopardy…NBA power forwards dirk, kevin, amare, answer: Who are players that would sell their right testicle for Tim Duncan’s career.
    @Run’n'Gun219, COSIGN!!

  • Max

Tim Duncan is truly the definition of greatness…

  • http://www.need4sheed.com Tarzan Cooper

707 wins out of 1000. Thats just staggering. ……. Why wouldnt he be the best big man ever? Sure, kareem scored more, but tims defense has been better than kareem. And he needed oscar and magic to win titles. Tim had old david, then later tony and manu, cant forget the bowen collector. …. Tim is historically great…..

  • ClydeSays

I’ll give him best PF ahead of KG, Malone & McHale. Dirk maybe gets on the list, but how does Amare (No one taught me how to play D) get in the conversation? Duncan is unquestionably great, but not the best ever. He sits behind Russell, MJ, Magic, Kobe & Bird.

  • Illydiva

I too wish he’d only played 10 games and had 1,000 ahead of him. Who could replace Timmy and do what he does the way he does it?

  • http://slamonline.com Allenp

    Tarzan
Oscar was old when he went to Kareem, although still effective. And he won his first title with Magic as a rookie, and he was DESTROYING the Sixers that series before getting injured.
Robinson wasn’t that old when Duncan first came into the league, and was a huge contributor in the first ring in 99 although Duncan put up insane numbers. The second ring, Robinson was old, so I agree with that.
And Manu and Tony aren’t on the same level as the team Kareem had around him in L.A., but the Spurs weren’t beating teams on the same level as the Bad Boy Pistons or Boston Celtics.
For his rings, Duncan has beaten an eight-seeded Knicks team, the Nets, the Cavs and the Pistons. Of that group, the Pistons were CLEARLY the best team, and they couldn’t hold the jockstraps of the teams that the Lakers had to go through to get rings.

  • http://www.need4sheed.com Tarzan Cooper

By that same logic, 00s lal beat pacers, sixers, nets…… That belies all the western conf battles in the playoffs. ……. In 71, oscar was 30? 31? Still very good………… Those other teams got to the finals for a reason, they beat the other teams. Its not like they won a raffle…….. You can only play whos in front of you, its not boxing where you can call someone out and challenge them…………… Do the spurs still have the best winning percentage in all sports since tim arrived?

  • Max

Allen P, That was one of the most ignorant comments i’ve seen on this site. You showed both disrespect to the Spurs, and their opponents. If you make it to the Finals you probably deserve to be there, end of story. In the end, Duncan won 707 of those 1,000 games, please argue with that.

  • RedRum

As I said, I give the two MJs, and probably Russell as better then TD. But can someone explain me how someone can put Bird ahead of Duncan? Bird was great, but he was a defensive liability to his team. He won 1 ring less than TD. And sorry, but this 707/1000 is a ridiculous number… simply ridiculous…

  • JamaalWilks87

the western conference finals was basically the nba finals for a number of years…remember???!!!!common, Allen P!

  • http://twitter.com/BeezKneezy LA Huey

@Max, if that’s the most ignorant you’ve seen on this site, give it another day or two. =)

  • Hammer

Man. Makes ME feel old. I was 17 when he broke n the L. Still remember the his nike foamposites. Follwed him since he was a deacon. He is so fundamental that u take him 4 granted @ times. No doubt the best PF ever. Enjoy watching his bank shot ya’ll. Cuz its nearing its end

  • Towelie

Not a fan of Duncan, but that’s one helluva winning percentage.

  • Justin

Pretty sick winning percentage to say the least. Tarzan, Duncan isn’t the best big man of all time. I don’t think I’d put him ahead of Hakeem, who was a great defensive and offensive player. He didn’t exactly have superstars around him when he won his titles. The best thing he had going for him to win those championships was Michael Jordan playing baseball

  • http://blog.mysanantonio.com/spursnation/ Anthony

Justin, if you’ve seen Duncan winning titles while MJ was playing baseball, just stop any drugs you’ve been smoking. People are so ignorant about the Spurs, it’s crazy.

  • RedRum

    @Antony: I think he meant Hakeem, not Duncan… ;) ))

  • http://blog.mysanantonio.com/spursnation/ Anthony

yes i saw that and apologized in a 2nd message that was deleted, i guess he meant Kareem but Tarzan was talking about Hakeem and i got confused. I need to sleep.

  • http://www.need4sheed.com Tarzan Cooper

Justin is stupid. The best thing hakeem had going for him was being hakeem.

  • RedRum

Hakeem was great, but I still put Duncan ahead of him. Duncan beat every dominant post player the last 13 years, and that includes Ewing, Shaq, KG, Dirk etc. If it was not for the 0.5 D-Fish shot and the stupid Ginobili foul on Dirk, Duncan would have had another 2 rings.
And if this says anything, Duncan is the only other post player that Shaq has respect for, and refers to him as “Mr Tim Duncan”

  • http://blog.mysanantonio.com/spursnation/ Anthony

remember 2005 when he was alone in the paint against Wallace & Wallace, i think people didnt realise how hard it was, even prime Shaq fail against them. And yes RedRum, Shaq has a lot of respect for Tim, same thing with Kobe, they know how great is his.

  • Tuomas

Not to rain on your parade RedRum, but when the Turkish media asked him this year who he thought was the best center ever, Shaq had the following to say: “Umm, another Muslim brother. Hakeem Olajuwon.” And this is just the latest time he’s shown Hakeem ultimate respect.

  • Kadavour

I still don’t get why Tim Duncan is a PF. When he came in the league, he and Robinson were heralded as “The Twin Towers”, the Spurs effectively inserted two centers into their starting line ups etc. Then come All Star balloting time, he’s suddenly a PF and that defines his career. Dude is FREAKING 7 FEET. He’s a PF when Blair and Bonner are on the floor? Does he guard Dirk on the perimeter? C’mon with the bullsh*t man, he’s a CENTER. Same for Pau and all these other tweeners. I get the argument that Timmy came into the league and redefined his position along with some of his contemporaries because of their ability to play outside of the post and extend the floor, but I don’t hear anyone calling him a tweener, and i KNOW he doesn’t play on the perimeter extending defenses today. That part of his game existed when he was more athletic. He’s a center right now for crying out loud.

  • Anon E Mouse

@ Kadavour – doesn’t really matter which way you see it Duncan’s front row place in the HOF is guaranteed. Let the man enjoy his 1000th game… Or not as the case may be. As a Knicks fan, this man broke my heart in 21 places but he’s arguably top 5, definitely top 10.

  • http://google c_cantrell

    ^allenp..
very disrespectful man.. and completely ignorant

  • RedRum

@Tuomas: Shaq said that because Duncan is a PF ;) ))

  • Tuomas

    Pfffft :)

  • http://www.need4sheed.com Tarzan Cooper

actually redrum, shaq calls him “the great tim duncan”
