Grizzlies on Board With Lionel Hollins’ Plan

Despite their loss-ridden start to the season, to a man, the Grizz say they’re behind their coach 100%. From the Commercial Appeal: “One week after coach Lionel Hollins peppered his troops with a piercing, profanity-laced lecture, the Grizzlies have strung together roughly 10 quarters with the steady effort and focus he demanded … Collectively, the Griz insist their issues with selfishness and lapses in mental toughness are behind them. They were guilty as charged by Hollins, and took his words as constructive criticism they hope will help provide a boost into the second quarter of the schedule. ‘It’s obvious the problem is us. It’s blatantly obvious,’ Griz leading scorer Rudy Gay said. ‘We need to play defense. We need to execute and we haven’t been doing it. We’re getting closer. But getting close doesn’t count. We need to get W’s and I mean put more than a few of them together.’ … Mayo also insists he still is on board with what Hollins is preaching. ‘That’s our man,’ [OJ] Mayo said of Hollins. ‘We’ve let the owner, we let everyone know this is the guy we want to play for. We’ve been in a lot of winnable games. We’ve just got to start winning. Whatever our role is, whatever the dynamic of the team is, we’ve got to accept it and go hard. We feel like we’re a good team. We’ve just got to stick to the script.’”

hmmmmmm interesting i think they can make a push still for a playoff spot

  • whoooo!

i think that Hollins facing off with AI and showing the young’ns who’s in charge really went a long way towards building this type of trust and respect. They’ve got enough talent that they could at least make a push for the 8th spot, though they might not quite make it.
