Grizzlies’ Owner Frustrated by Team’s Record

Michael Heisley is less than pleased with his squad’s performance so far this season — placing the blame on injuries, a tough schedule, and struggles from key players like OJ Mayo — but he keeps insisting to fans and local media that they’ll make the Playoffs (naturally). From the Commercial Appeal: “I don’t know what’s happening,’ Heisley said of the Grizzlies’ 8-14 record. ‘We’re having a difficult time and I don’t know what the reason for it is. I started the season with high hopes for the team. It’s not living up to what I’d hope. I don’t know what else to say. I’ve racked my brain trying to figure it out.’ Heisley guaranteed a playoff berth. Yet heading into their game tonight at Phoenix, the Grizzlies own a record that’s one game worse than their mark at this point a year ago. Heisley laments early injuries to Zach Randolph and Marc Gasol, O.J. Mayo’s dip in scoring and the degree of difficulty of the schedule … Meanwhile, Heisley is not backing off his playoff promise. ‘I’m not giving up on the season. That’s for sure,’ Heisley said. ‘It’s still early. We have to wait and see what happens.'”
