Grizzlies’ Owner Frustrated by Team’s Record

Michael Heisley is less than pleased with his squad’s performance so far this season — placing the blame on injuries, a tough schedule, and struggles from key players like OJ Mayo — but he keeps insisting to fans and local media that they’ll make the Playoffs (naturally). From the Commercial Appeal: “I don’t know what’s happening,’ Heisley said of the Grizzlies’ 8-14 record. ‘We’re having a difficult time and I don’t know what the reason for it is. I started the season with high hopes for the team. It’s not living up to what I’d hope. I don’t know what else to say. I’ve racked my brain trying to figure it out.’ Heisley guaranteed a playoff berth. Yet heading into their game tonight at Phoenix, the Grizzlies own a record that’s one game worse than their mark at this point a year ago. Heisley laments early injuries to Zach Randolph and Marc Gasol, O.J. Mayo’s dip in scoring and the degree of difficulty of the schedule … Meanwhile, Heisley is not backing off his playoff promise. ‘I’m not giving up on the season. That’s for sure,’ Heisley said. ‘It’s still early. We have to wait and see what happens.’”

Let’s see now…the owner gave Rudy Gay 80 million…the owner gave Mike Conley 45 million…the owner traded Pau Gasol to the Lakers for 2 happy meals and a $500 gift certificate…hey Michael, try looking in the mirror to see where most of the blame lies.

im going to get alot of heat for saying this, but oj mayo needs to be the number one option in memphis. he is the best player on the team imo even tho hes only avg like 12 ppg. its only hurting him and the team by not playing him more and giving him more shots. not like that will make them a winning team but it will help

What are you guys talking about? Rudy Gay and Mike Conley have been the consistent players for the Grizz. OJ Mayo has been given chances to take the team over since he was drafted, let’s face it, he hasn’t lived up to his high school hype. He’s an undersized 2-guard who can’t get by his defender or overpower them.

atleast grizzles are fun to play with in 2k11 lol

@Marvin exactly man Conley’s play, aside from of course Rudy’s play, has been one of few bright spots from the team. Youre absolutely right about OJ, just another case of an extremely talented kid not properly developing his skill before entering the league. He’s tweener guard and he’s never been too fond of playing off the ball. Marc Gasol’s play has been less than inspiring as well….1 through 5 they have as much TALENT as any team in the league, just not putting it together early on. I’d look for them to make a good run after the break like last year

OJ Mayo needs to step up. He needs to get his shooting touch back so he can help my Fantasy Team. =P

oj needs to go. preferably for a first round pick. he’s good but not THAT good. They need some cagy vets.

this team is such a huge letdown.. so much talent just wasting away year by year.. i agree that oj should be more involved in the offense but he also needs to step up and deliver and he needs to actually play d (has anyone besides me noticed a rise in xavier henrys playing time–yeah he plays d).. as for the management they are just absolutely horrible since trading pau gasol then signing gay for 80 million then signing conley for 45 million and picking hasheem thabeet with the 2nd overall pick when they could have/should have chose either stephen curry or tyreke evans.. this team is just a let down plain and simple and it seems like thats all that they will ever be

The team has talent and still has a shot for the playoffs. With the personell the have, it may be time for a coaching change. Gay/OJ/Conley/Gasol all have value, Thabeet wasn’t a bad pick but not playing nearly as well as expected. But this team has too much talent to have a record like this.
