Hasheem Thabeet on the Trade Block?

The Grizzlies are looking to make moves prior to the trade deadline, according to the Commercial Appeal, and Hasheem Thabeet could find himself on the way out the door (though the team, of course, denies anything being on the table): “Team executives, who had insisted the current group would have until the All-Star break to find a rhythm, will consider potential trade offers depending on how the Griz handle the next two weeks. Sources with knowledge of the team’s thinking said Wednesday that the Grizzlies’ 12-17 record has been deemed unacceptable. The team might look to shake up the roster if it can’t put together a significant winning streak and solidify a place in the Western Conference playoff race. To that end, 7-3 center Hasheem Thabeet is no longer unavailable. The Griz had resisted offers for the second-year player. But Thabeet is now being viewed as an asset most likely to be traded in order to augment the Grizzlies. NBA.com first reported that the Griz were shopping Thabeet more than a week ago. Although no deals were imminent at the time, it wouldn’t be surprising if Thabeet is moved in the coming weeks. Griz general manager Chris Wallace declined to discuss potential deals and said the team’s trade activity has been overstated. ‘We are continuously talking to teams throughout the year. And it’s no different than the process of the other 29 teams,’ Wallace said. ‘Sometimes those conversations are very simplistic, and there’s nothing to them. Sometimes they’re serious. It’s the normal course of what’s out there. But we don’t feel we have to do deals right now. That’s how you end up making mistakes. You walk a fine line with being aggressive and seriously considering all of the options. We have quality players.’”

What could they hope to get?

  • http://www.google.com/news BETCATS

Thabeet + Mayo for Stephen Jackson works. Gives the Grizzlies a legit shooting guard who could help them make a playoff run and it gives the Bobcats young pieces. Paul Silas and Charles Oakley would make a man out of Thabeet.

Detroit could use a defensive minded shot blocker like that…Let Ben Wallace mentor him and hopefully he can develop into 1/2 the defender he was.

Come to the chi. We need somebody to hold it down while Noahs gone.

  • http://google c_cantrell

he would fit in well in chi-town, okc, orlando (since gortat is now gone), miami, ny.. hell this kid would fit in just about anywhere.. but if i were the magic or the heat or okc id be making a huge push for him.. dude could learn alot from dwight and could one day become a dominant defensive force in the nba.. miami just needs a defensive minded center who can actually make a difference on that side of the floor.. thunder just need a center, preferably a defensive minded one but nonetheless they just need a decent middle man

Lakers need front court depth also…

    Orlando too…more so than LA.

Atlanta would be a good fit, they need a better defensive C that would let Horford move to the 4 and Smith to the 3. Make Williams come off the bench and then look at finding a PG. They could even trade Jamal Crawford for him, because I feel like Jamal would be a great help to the Grizzlies late in games.

  • TrailBlazing&SportingLisbon

cosign Mike form Spain, are all you guys crazy?!!?? if he cant play good minutes on the Grizz how could he help LA, Magic or Bulls?

  • http://google c_cantrell

    ^TB&SL..
as i said before.. in orland, just practicing with dwight would be good for him.. thabeet is only known for his d and with the help of dwight he could eventually become one of the best defenders in the league

  • hiphopcop

A team that needs somebody for a couple of minutes is the only team for that bum. Magic need a guy that can give them 15 minutes or so, but a team like the Heat, Lakers, Thunder, Chicago and Atlanta could use a player for a couple of minutes, so those teams seem a better fit for a bum.

  • http://slamonline BossTerry

I could see him playing back-up in Philly.. (Probably just because he reminds me a little of a young Dalembert).

  • http://www.slamonline.com Wayno

He’s never gonna live up to his draft position, but he can be a productive player. Bigs take longer to develop than any other position.

i think i have a good eye for evaluating talent. and to say i dont think he has or ever develope any would be a understatement. This dude is garbage,as hell, may i add…

  • http://www.need4sheed.com Tarzan Cooper

    his contract is crazy

  • http://twitter.com/BeezKneezy LA Huey

BETCATS, that’s a lousy deal for the Grizz but I see you trying. =)

  • http://www.teesrus.ecrater.com Go Green

trade him to the D league
    Kobe fans check out http://www.teesrus.ecrater.com/p/9572178/kobe

  • Rainman

i would have said Phoenix should hop on that, but that would have been b4 the recent trade.

Even still, they should look into it, they can use even more size.

  • http://slamonline.com Allenp

He got a new deal? I thougt he was still on his rookie deal. Dude has talent but it ain’t gonna work in memphis.

  • http://www.need4sheed.com Tarzan Cooper

Hes still on his rookie deal, but a no2 pick rookie deal. That is very expensive for a guy like him. Imstill highly confused why the grizz took him over tyreke, harden, jennings, surry.

  • DeAndre

I hope he does get traded, he needs a fresh start where he will get some playing time.
He has great potential, but he needs a team that needs him. Memphis was stacked with big men anyway

  • Epic Win

    Olo-Wo-Kandi

  • Shem

Raptors anyone? Reggie s out and we could use some toughness inside.

  • http://google c_cantrell

dude still has potential.. idk why you guys knockin him down

  • http://www.triplejunearthed.com/dacre Dacre

He makes Darko look like ALL NBA 2nd team material.

  • http://slamonline BossTerry

cosign cantrell.. A TRUE center is a dying breed in todays NBA, just wait til he gets a few offensive moves, and he will have a height advantage over many “centers”..

  • mmontano2012

Hahaha you never know…they could get Pau Gasol in return

  • Yes.We.Did.

Houston could use a new Mutombo…

  • http://kamandatungi.blogspot.com Conan O’ Rhymin

    Thabeet is NO Mutombo!!

  • http://thetroyblog.com Teddy-the-Bear

    ^ hahaha.

  • ErnieD

Trade him to Boston, for Luke Harangody, and next year’s #1.

  • gregor

Tarzan Cooper – Thabeet was taken on potential, but the Grizz were/are an extremely poor situation for him.
