John Wall Surprised by Chat from Kobe Bryant

Bryant often makes a point to have post-game words with young players who impress him (especially after the Lakers win), and last night, it was John Wall‘s turn. The WaPo reports: “Wall seemed to relish in keeping the crowd stunned, as he flashed his tongue to fans on the front row after a driving layup and smiled after every time he broke down the defense to set up one of his career-high 14 assists. That level of enthusiasm caught the attention of Bryant, who said after the Lakers’ 115-108 win, ‘He was good. He’s fast and he’s crafty.’ ‘It’s great to hear from Kobe,’ Wall said after scoring 22 points and adding three blocked shots. ‘That’s going to keep motivating me to keep working hard and keep trying getting better. To talk to somebody who is the greatest player in the game, I was kind of surprised. Most of the time, you see a star like that, he’s not no arrogant person, but they usually go back to the locker room after a great win. For him to call me over there meant a whole lot. He’s somebody I looked up to ever since I was in middle school and high school. It was a great honor.’”

Counting down to where JTaylor comes in and says that Kobe copied this move from MJ, that there must be selfish intention behind this to earn himself more glory at the expense of his teammates.

“but they usually go back to the locker room after a great win”. Sorry John, but beating the Wiz is not considered a great win. It’s more a formality at this point.

    @rich – what about rondo!!!

  • LeBron de Con

Nick Young’s spin move on Lamar was nice.

He’s gonna be good, real good! Who is faster: DRose or John Wall? I really couldn’t tell after last nights game. Fat Lever: Those young dudes put up a heck of a run at the end, minus some time management mistakes and a single turnover it could of went the other way.

After watching last nights game with wiz vs lakers and seeing the stuff john was doing ud say a couple nice words to him to so he keeps devoloping into a superstar

@benno: People always overlook Rondo, because he doesn’t score points like the other PGs, but Rondo is the best defensive PG in the league. If anyone disagrees, state your case!

As much as a dislike Kobe as a player, the man is great about giving props to the new kids.

  • whatwhat

no one over looks rondo….and remember young ones bryant himself said he owes 90 percent of what he knows to michael jordan. and he grew up with a dad who played in the league….how ill is that

How is this anything? Kobe told him nice game, keep working…. So…..

john wall guarded kobe really well towards the end of the game… not saying he is a shutdown defender on SG’s or anything but he showed his potential there(defensively). Clearly as a whole john is getting better. he only had 3 turnovers last night which is an encouraging sign due to him turning the ball over like a mad man early. the vision, passing, shooting… last time i saw a rook PG play like this was back in 04-05 with chris paul. He’s bound to hit the rookie wall sooner or later but he’s playing terrific. The wiz clearly have scoring talent… now only if they could defend and rebound… i mean… flip saunders stuck with a zone for 1 full half even when it wasnt working. you’d think he’d get a clue.

Tarzan – The “news” part was the jab at LeBron where Wall calls Kobe ‘the greatest in the game’… Well thats what I’ve dug up.

@Tarzan Gotta feed the 24 hour news cycle

  • http://www.need4sheed.com Tarzan Cooper

    Dacre, I noticed that too.

  • Blackphantom

@PapaBearATL I think Wall has the advantage in speed

  • OvaChicken

Me ! me ! I noticed it also. GTFOoH + Kobe appreciates coz he never had 14 assists in his life :-)

  • The Anti-Crust

OvaChicken…do you think that if Bean wanted to get 14 assists in a game, he would have problems doing it??? The only problems would be the receiver of the pass, making the shot. I think he could probably do it in one half, a few days ago I would have said “against the Clippers”…but he may have to wait a few years until the Clipper jinx takes down Blake and his potential, which I hope doesn’t happen. For once, the Clippers deserved to play in the same building as the Lakers, previously I had preached they belonged in the OC (Orange County…30 miles away…in the Honda Center, previously the Arrowhead Pond)…but Sterling is the King of Los Angeles Condo and Apartment real estate, so that would never happen.
