Patrick Ewing a Candidate to Coach the Bobcats Next Season?

Good buddies Michael Jordan and Patrick Ewing have discussed the possibility of the Magic assistant coach taking over in Charlotte next year. From the NY Post: “Paul Silas was named as an interim coach two weeks ago for the Bobcats but may not be the long-term solution. Sources have indicated Silas will have to earn a chance to return next season. If not, ‘The Big Fella’ has a shot. When asked if Charlotte had called him, Ewing smiled and said, ‘They might have.’ When pressed, Ewing said, ‘He might have been. I talk to Michael all the time. There definitely was a phone call. It depends on what we talked about.’ Whether it was a formal interview, Ewing left unclear. Ewing has not been seriously considered for any head-coaching job, which has been a source of frustration for him, especially when Mark Jackson got job interviews after never having been an assistant. ‘I hope,’ Ewing said when asked if he feels he’s getting more consideration. ‘It is what it is,’ he said. ‘I’m just going to keep on working. If I get an opportunity, I’ll make sure I’m ready for it.’ Ewing, who has helped mentor center Dwight Howard into a superstar, has two seasons left on his Magic contract. He has said if he isn’t a head coach soon, he would give up coaching.”

Starting to look like the coaching staff could win more games then the players down there..

Hopefully Ewing could do a better job with the Bobcats than he has with Dwight. Had to bring in Hakeem for Howard to finally develop something more substantial than a dunk.

I think Patrick Ewing deserves that Head Coaching spot for the Bobcats.

@LDR4, I’m sure they will be good defensively for several years but inept offensively for the simplest of reasons. Then Dream will takeover and there will be significant offensive improvements after two practices.

He d be great. Charlotte has good wing players in Augustin, Jackson and Wallace but they don’t have an inside prescence..

Actually, I think Ewing and Dream make a great 2-man coaching team for big men. Yao was taught by both Ewing and Dream. Dream taught him some of that footwork, Ewing taught him the turnaround. Dwight has also been taught by both.

Not sure if Shem realises Pat is retired and looking to coach.

Michael sure likes hiring his old buddies regardless of how well they suit the job.

I do not want Patrick Ewing. Keep Paul Silas or hire Nate McMillian for next year.

  • Justin

Nate McMillan would be a great answer. A proven coach is someone these guys need, not someone who’s never coached a day in his life

I LOVE Pat Ewing since my childhood … but he has a terrible bad aura when it comes to W.
