Rashard Lewis Reacts to Trade from Orlando

Lewis tells the WaPo that though the trade wasn’t entirely shocking, he was still caught a bit off guard (and that it hurt): “Forty-eight hours after being dealt from the Magic to the Wizards, Rashard Lewis said [Monday] afternoon at Verizon Center that the shock has slowly subsided and that he’s ready to move forward with his latest challenge. ‘Going from a team that is competing for a championship to a team that’s rebuilding, the goals obviously change for me,’ said the 6-10 Lewis, who was acquired Saturday in exchange for Gilbert Arenas. ‘I thought about that ever since the trade happened. Now, my ultimate goal is to get this team into the playoffs or into the hunt to make the playoffs and help these guys grow [by] being a veteran in the locker room, not by voice but most definitely by example.’ Lewis said he had heard the rumors after Orlando’s shoot-around Saturday morning. But that didn’t take any sting out of the phone call he received shortly after lying down for his pre-game nap. ‘My first reaction was obviously a little surprise as well as a little bit upset because it happened so quick,” he said. “But my being in the league 12 years, it wasn’t as big of a blow to me because I’ve been on teams where different teammates get traded. So I think I was prepared, built up a wall to where [I knew] it could happen to anybody at any time. I’ve seen the business side of it.’”

He’s screwed. SF now and he’s not going to translate well with Blatche.

i like that his first act of “leading by example” was to not suit up for the game last night, as he was “not mentally prepared” to do so.

ah he wont do too bad with the wizards.. he will put up much better numbers and will complement jwall nicley

  • Hursty

I’d just like to take this opportunity to remind you all that Lewis is on a max contract right now. Rashard Lewis. Thankyou for your attention.

  • Riggs

the same was said of him on the magic, dude is a pragmatic underachiever

  • AT33

Even though he’s had his issues, I don’t buy it that the Magic are better off with Arenas over Lewis. Someone explain to me the math between them two and how the Magic are better now?

  • greg

they get someone who can attack the rim whenever he wants but chooses to take long 2 pointers. svg hates that and will prolly cut those out of his game making him more efficent

  • Loso

He’s wayyyy overpaid. I think that it’s fair when a player plays great he gets more money. I also think it’s fair that when he plays shitty like Rashard has, ownership should be able to take money back.

Hursty, you’re killing me! I agree with the majority of comments here, Rashard Lewis plays like he is 5″4, 120 pounds and without an ounce of killer instinct especially on D. The trade has been a long time coming. AT33 I understand where you’re coming from in terms of team chemistry, but I’d take Arenas over Lewis any day regardless.

AT33.. magic get a perimeter guy that can play the 1-2.. not a perimeter guy that plays the 3-4 and can’t defend bigs and doesn’t rebound.. which means.. besides his jumper that arenas also has.. he was no help to d-howard.. now bass can play more without any justification for not playing the 100mil dollar man..

  • Drew

He’s so overpaid. What the heck was Orlando thinking when they offered him that deal in the first place?

  • LD

Time to jog back and forth between 3pt lines launching threes and playing token defense for the next few years.

    Rashard feels like Cleveland. LOL

  • Nate

I think the Magic GM is retarded

  • Nate

They got to much point guards not a strong frontline.

You guys wanna hear a joke? Rashard Lewis.

  • ansonpanson

Did anyone realise Gil averages 1 reb less than Lewis who is 6 inches taller?

  • Spetsnaz

I still say that Jameer Nelson is the main problem on that team. How can average 7 assists when u got good shooters at 2,3 and 4 (up until this week) and a centre who can catch any lob u can imagine? He looks for his own shot too damn much for a team with that many options. Its not a co-incidence that Orlando made its best run when Rafer was the running the point. Rafer wasn’t looking to score at all. I’m not syaing Jameer is a bad player just that his style of play doesn’t fit the Magic.

  • Yes.We.Did.

@ Drew Miami offered Lewis like 80 mil and the only way they were gonna keep RawLew away from DWade was to grossly overpay for him

  • http://thetroyblog.com Teddy-the-Bear

Co-sign Spetsnaz. Great points. No doubt about it, the Magic were at their best with Rafer Alston running the point. Which brings me to the point that it is complete and utter BS that Alston isn’t on an NBA team this very moment. Very underrated player.

Raw Lew the Party is Over hope you didnt forget to turn the Lights out on ur way to DC. It was fun while it lasted…

“I’ve seen the business side of it.” – yup, the best of it actually!

  • Towelie

Well, I don’t know why they let go of Rafer after he helped the Magics with a Finals appereance. He did very well for a backup behind Nelson….Imma have to go with what Nate said.
