Steve Francis Has Left His Chinese Team

The former NBA All-Star couldn’t physically cut in the Chinese Basketball Association, and so continues his sad saga. The AP has the latest: “Three-time NBA All-Star Steve Francis is leaving his Chinese team after playing in just four games over two weeks. Chinese media say the out-of-shape 33-year-old played just 14 minutes for the Chinese Basketball Association’s Beijing Ducks. To the consternation of his coach, Francis left the stadium midway through the Ducks’ 104-89 victory over the Jiangsu Dragons on Sunday. Francis had reportedly signed with the Ducks for $800,000 for the 32-game 2010-11 season, a portion of which he will receive as a settlement. ‘I feel unhappy that I couldn’t play the game. I know I was not well-prepared physically to help the team on court. As the team is in hot form, I think it is best for both sides for me to terminate my contract,’ Francis was quoted as telling Beijing Television on Monday afternoon. A number of former NBA stars, including former All-Star Stephon Marbury, signed with Chinese teams this season following the lifting of a $60,000 monthly salary cap. Ducks coach Min Lulei said he’s been willing to provide a personal trainer for Francis, but the player merely asked for more game minutes.”

    VAN-Karma, Biatch!

  • MARTEY

These out of shape ballers have been going overseas for years after the nba thinking they can rely on their skill and name but now that basketball has spread worldwide and the quality of play has increased, many are finding themselves on the bench in some foreign country

I remember reading an article about Steve Francis a few months ago (not sure if it was on here or another site), and Francis was claiming that he was ready to play at an NBA level again. He said he had just needed a couple years off to rehab his knee, but he was ready to go again. I guess that was not the case.

francis is not ready to play at the nba level.. not unless the nba starts playing half court games anyway

  • Epic Win

He came in for 20 second with ice taped around his ankles and dude didn’t even have his shoes tied! That was a funny little story SLAM had a couple weeks ago.

^^^^that was the coaches fault. Steve was told h wouldnt play. H didnt play all game. The last 17 secs of the game the coach put him in cuz fans were yelling at him. Probably one of the reasons steve left.

this is sad. check some of his early rockets highlights and tell the man didn’t have crazy skills

  • doyouwantmore

I checked some of his off-court highlights and I have to admit the man didn’t have crazy social skills.

J.R Smith’s ceiling is Steve Francis.

co sign the above sentiments from fellow vancouver grizzly fans. by the way I was at the very last vancouver grizz home game in franchise history and I unfortunately missed steve’s head with a foreign object I threw at him but from the way he behaves these days you would think I hit him.

  • K.a.

    Gone too soon. Wait what?

@Omar: I know its easy to say that but its not man, put JR Smith on the Raps I think they can make a run at the playoffs a lot of teams out there could really use JR Smith the guy has a waaay better jump shot then Francis ever did.

  • Omar

    @ Pardeep
I never really thought about it until now but maybe JR’s problem is that he wants to be “the man”. Cause I agree with you his skill-set is better than Francis’ but his IQ is even lower than Francis’
