Report: Allen Iverson to Announce His Retirement

According to a publication called Ajansspor, The Answer is about to hang up his Reeboks. HoopsWorld has the translated text: “Turkish Besiktas famous import, Allen Iverson, appears close to end his career in basketball. The former Philadelphia Sixers’ guard injured his left ankle recently and can’t stand the pain anymore. Later today, he will do a press conference to announce that he is going to have surgery in the United States and will be treated here. ‘Leaving the basketball world makes me sad but, sometimes, we have to accept things like they are. I can say goodbye to basketball,’ he revealed yesterday.”

  • burnt_chicken Posted: Jan.12 at 10:19 am
is there any kind of global agreement between leagues regarding a retirement in one league, then a subsequent return to a (playoff) roster in another?

  • mikee1680 Posted: Jan.12 at 10:31 am
He’ll never have to practice ever again.

  • AT33 Posted: Jan.12 at 10:33 am
He should have retired long ago. Now he will be remembered as the screw up who went to Turkey cuz no NBA team wanted him and coudn’t score 2points in the Euroleague.

  • apeman Posted: Jan.12 at 10:37 am

  • davidR Posted: Jan.12 at 10:57 am

AI is definitely one of the more defining players of this generation who influenced alot of ppl and gave the little guys hope that they can also have success in basketball seeing some of the things he did… if this is for real and he really doesnt come back, it shouldnt have to end in turkey for a former MVP and scoring champ, thats not the way to go out which is why i suspect if he can get back to the NBA he will…

  • The Ambassador Posted: Jan.12 at 11:18 am
Allen Iverson should make a one hour special reflecting the time he had in Turkey then make another one hour showing which NBA team he would like to go and donate all the money to some sort of charity.

  • Stillballin Posted: Jan.12 at 11:19 am
    AI will forever my hero..

  • bashmo Posted: Jan.12 at 11:33 am

“Somehow there will still be 25 articles per week about him on SLAM…the words “hip-hop culture” and “real” will be used 96 times per article.” HAHAHAHHHA so true. “He defined the hip hop generation. He kept it real.” What they fail to mention is where keeping it real got him. What a tool.

SLAM holla at me on the ALL-Iverson SLAM issue.

  • True H Posted: Jan.12 at 4:13 pm
He went above and beyond to ensure that his legacy would be tarnished. I’m actually impressed at how little grace his career ended with. David Robinson he is not! lol

  • Michael NZ Posted: Jan.12 at 5:12 pm
The ‘injury’ is just a cover for quitting. Again.

  • doyouwantmore Posted: Jan.12 at 5:22 pm
GOODBYE. I hope its for real this time.

  • Allenp Posted: Jan.12 at 5:34 pm
One story said he had some sort of bone growth. At least on Hoops Hype it said that. Something about a tumor.

  • Pardeep Posted: Jan.12 at 5:44 pm
^yeah I just read that, the tumor thing sounds scary…. wish AI the best

  • [...] like some earlier reports were way off-base. From the AP: “Gary Moore, Iverson’s longtime manager, said Iverson told him Wednesday [...]

  • nobrain Posted: Jan.12 at 6:57 pm

  • Darksaber Posted: Jan.12 at 8:58 pm

  • Dacre Posted: Jan.13 at 7:54 am
The National Basketball League Australia is about to reach the playoffs… and the Wollongong Hawks are in need of an injured yet capable guard….

Wish The Answer the best of luck in the future.
