Anderson Varejao: Done For Season

Cleveland.com breaks the bad news: “Just when you thought things couldn’t get any worse for the Cavaliers, the team announced Sunday that center Anderson Varejao will miss the rest of the season with a torn peroneus longus tendon in his right foot that will require surgery. ‘It’s devastating,’ said Mo Williams. ‘Obviously he’s a big part of what we do offensively and especially defensively. It’s a tough one to swallow. It’s hard.’ Cavs coach Byron Scott said he had not talked to Varejao. ‘When I heard the news, I’m not going to say I didn’t buckle,’ Scott said before the Cavs faced the Suns in USAirways Arena. ‘A lot of it was because Andy’s been playing great. He’s been unbelievable. He’s arguably our best player and for him to go down that way — in practice on the last drill just running up and down the floor, no contact whatsoever –that’s tough.’”

    Dear Cleveland,
    That is all.

  • JTaylor21

Big part of what we do offensively and defensively, and what is that exactly? When you go from the best record to the worst record in about 5 months, it has more to do with one player than what you do defensively.

There goes the Cavs chances at a championship this year… Sucks for them.

I guess the witch doctor they hired for curses and what now didn’t get fully compensated and is seeking revenge

“It’s a tough one to swallow. It’s hard.” – That’s what she said.

^haha good call. but seriously, i understand what varejao does defensively (he’s a solid defender, but not a top 15 post defender), but what does he do on offense at all? i’m not even sure his screens are as effective as they should be for a guy that size.

lol @ the rest of the Cavaliers being jealous of him. Naw but seriously get well soon bro

poor baby dan gilbert. how they gonna win a chip before lebron now? they just lost a future first ballot hall of famer in anderson varejao for the season. that might make it harder to beat the lakers in the finals now huh dan?

X factor done for the season… hello number one pick 2011 draft

  • irondan21

And with the first pick in the 2011 draft the Cleveland Cavaliers select…
To bad having the worst record doesn’t guarantee the first pick. Better luck like 5 years from now

if I was the coach, I would be looking forword to a free agent, or trading a plyer trading a player.

Varejao would be a great fit on a playoff team that needs hustle bigs. If the Cavs didn’t overpay him so much to keep him in order to keep Lebron happy, I’d say Varejao would be a great fit on the Knicks. Great bench role player, but he’s paid like a full-time starter and boderline all-star.

‘Arguably our best player’ was a red light right there…when ANDERSON VAREJAO is ‘arguably’ your teams best player theres a serious problem…

  • Jackie Moon

This is great news for me, but only because now when LeBronites talk about how bad the Cavs are without Lebron, I can say “Yah, but they lost Varejao. They might have made the playoffs if he didn’t get injured!”
    Get well, Andy.

  • http://studmuff73.blog.com/ Zabba

He’s a great player. He’s just not clutch or posses any decent offensive weapons, but don’t underestimate the intangibles, especially on the defensive end. And yeah Cavs seriously suck so I have to agree he is their best player.

  • bravo

lmao good i hope this dude never plays again. the cavs shud juss join lebron in miami you guys will have a better shot @ winning it all lmao

  • Dagger

In other words, Varejao was the best player the Cavs found to complement Lebron. Nice.

  • LA Huey

@Jackie Moon, making that argument would only be effective against those who are highly susceptible to trolling.

Like Noah, he’s one of those dudes you hate on the opposing team. Plays tough D, hustles, rebounds, flops, harasses, talks trash, etc.
