Billups, Rip Enter Carmelo Trade Talks

According to Yahoo!, the Nets‘ hopes of landing Melo may now require the Pistons’ involvement: “As Carmelo Anthony demands the New Jersey Nets surround him with veteran talent as a condition for him to commit to a contract extension, his agent has been the driving force behind bringing Detroit Pistons guard Richard Hamilton into multiteam trade talks, league sources told Yahoo! Sports. Anthony’s agent, Leon Rose, also represents Hamilton, and sources said he pushed Nets general manager Billy King to bring the Pistons into trade talks with New Jersey and the Denver Nuggets. [...] With Anthony’s agent so heavily involved in brokering particular players in the deal, the Nets are working under a belief that a proposed package to bring them Hamilton and Denver’s Chauncey Billups would be sufficient to sell Anthony on joining them over his preferred destination, the New York Knicks.”

its a little too late to try to re-make that pistons magic they once had. although a change would probably do rip some good, i’m not sure how well that would work all things considered.

TICK TICK TICK TICK! That trade deadline clock is ticking louder and louder each passing day! The Nuggets BRASS better start warming and waking up to the Knicks, who have all the leverage. Knicks jersey #30 is waiting for Carmelo!

For that trade he might as well stay in Denver.

Wilson Chandler’s development and Amare’s chemistry with Felton have me thinking we don’t need Melo. NY mostly just needs depth and more quality off the bench.

  • IAMORANGE4EVER Posted: Jan.8 at 11:22 am
@MikeC: Get real man. Wilson Chandler is not on Carmelo’s level night in and night out over the course of an 82 game season. Carmelo is a bonafide superstar in this league who is one of the games most clutch closers, if not thee best closer outside of Kobe Bryant. Melo’s one of the best rebounding small fowards in the league too. The Knicks can win a chip building a team around Felton-Melo-Stat. Bottom line, the Knicks are first round fodder right now with a punchers chance of getting to the second round, depending on who they match up with ie the Bulls. The Knicks didn’t make that investment in Ama’re to be first round fodder. The Knicks are going to move in for Melo the closer that trade deadline comes, and they’ll likely get him, because Melo wants to be a Knick, and the Nuggets begrudgingly know it. Not to sound arrogant, but book it baby.

Anyone knows if #15 is retired at MSG?

  • KwamePooh Posted: Jan.8 at 1:19 pm
#15 retired twice: Earl Monroe, Dick McGuire

Billups/Rip/Melo with Lopez at center would make for a pretty damn good team. Even in 2011.

    Yeah Right

funny thing is that he might end up with da knicks any wayz even if some1 else land him. It is not a fair trade any way u look at it if u rent him and give up ur entire team just sayin…

  • AL29 Posted: Jan.8 at 2:25 pm
As a fan of the L, I want Melo to land in NY. Melo, Rip and Chauncey would not be a big enough big 3 to make NJ a contender. I commend Denver for sticking it out and not just giving him up for nothing. If I’m Denver, I’d just let him walk at the end of the year instead of trading him away for bad contracts. Or, trade him to NY for Eddy Curry.

  • CARTEL Posted: Jan.8 at 2:33 pm
The Pistons should have really thought about who they wanted to select during the 2003 draft….I think all the real basketball fans understand where I’m going with that…

  • CARTEL Posted: Jan.8 at 2:38 pm
@Mike C…I think u make a good point, the Knicks really just need depth…But it’s ridiculous to say they dnt need Melo…Honestly, they need him an extra all-star to solidify themselves as a real powerhouse in the east…especially against Miami, Orlando and Boston…

  • Blaspemy Posted: Jan.8 at 4:25 pm
Honestly? I would try to trade for Dwight Howard, or a strong defense presence at the 5, because unless Amare gets a blood transfusion with Charles Oakley they are going to be beat at that end. And it helps for a more traditional line up. Wilsons moves to the 3 and Amare back to the 4.

  • kb24mj23 Posted: Jan.8 at 4:39 pm
Lol. You could TRY to trade for Dwight Howard. Thats a fairly strange thing to bring up. Do you really think Orlando would trade him for anyone?

  • Blaspemy Posted: Jan.8 at 4:47 pm
Lmfao. I didn’t think that through. But I recall someone saying on this website that very thing. I went with that. Thinking about it of course not. Good thing I am not a Gm.

  • Blaspemy Posted: Jan.8 at 4:49 pm
LMFAO. Your right. Orlando would be stupid to do such a thing. I need to proofread before I send the submit button.

  • bLeSs1 Posted: Jan.8 at 6:23 pm

  • BlackPhantom Posted: Jan.8 at 7:42 pm
