Carmelo Anthony: ‘I Don’t Want to Talk to Nobody’

by Marcel Mutoni@marcel_mutoni

According to multiple media reports, the Denver Nuggets have granted permission to the New Jersey Nets to have a chat or two with Carmelo Anthony, as Mikhail Prokhorov and Jay-Z try to convince him that one can actually lead a happy and fulfilling life in Jersey.

There’s just one problem: Anthony claims that he doesn’t want to have a pow wow with anyone about his future. That’s his story, and he’s sticking to it.

The Denver Post has the quotes:

“I’m having a meeting?” he said after the Nuggets loss at San Antonio on Sunday night. “I know nothing about that … I’ve never heard about that,” he said. “That’s news to me. I can’t talk to them people. The Denver Nuggets still pay me. I haven’t talked to anybody – Masai (Ujiri, Nuggets executive vice president of basketball operations) or Josh (Kroenke, team president) or any other teams. So for that speculation to be going around out there like that, that’s false.”

“I don’t want to talk to nobody,” Anthony said. “I let the front office handle that type of stuff. It ain’t my job to be talking to New Jersey, New York, Lakers, Dallas, no one. I still won’t step into something like that. I’ve seen a lot of people go through that. For me to sit here and say I want to talk to them or Masai or Josh gave them permission to talk to me, I think that’s false. If that was the case I’m pretty sure I would have gotten a phone call from Masai or Josh about that.”

Make of that what you will. My helpful suggestion: nothing.

Meanwhile, back in Denver, George Karl is doing his best to communicate with his players, and keep the team together amidst the incessant rumors. Good luck with all of that, George.

  • robb

    enver uggets yeah

Am I the only one who’s starting to dislike Melo more and more each day? I mean, he clearly wants a trade, even though he keeps denying it (“What? I’m going to be traded?), and when there’s finally a chance to get out, he doesn’t want to take it cause he doesn’t want to play in NJ. Wack.

  • RunNGun

When you’re represented by CAA, something ain’t right in your head. CAA where headcases, choke artists, and rotten, spoiled crybabies are born.

  • http://slamonline.com JL

clearly he is now mad that after all his posturing he is getting his wish to move to New Jersey and eventually Brooklyn, but to a crappier team too. Why can’t he have it all? Cuz that’s how life works son!

  • jay rose

this trade is taking longer than its suppose to

  • http://Philosophervision@blogspot.com The Philosopher

He knows that he is talking to everybody… whether he wants to, or not. lol

  • Max

    Just stay in Denver

  • Zoom

Just keep quiet to the media. All he has to say is “I’m in Denver right now; that is my focus as long as I’m here.” I think it’s a little unprofessional to discuss the prospects of playing for other teams while you’re still wearing a Nuggets uniform. All the comments he made about wanting to come back home were unecessary. Melo, don’t get mad now and say you’re not talking to anyone. You kept fueling the fire my dude.

  • http://gmail dirty frank

    This is beyond stupid.

  • http://slamonline.com Hossy

quit hatin on melo. why would he want to go to new jersey? so he can lose to the heat or the magic in the first round for his whole prime? denver’s gotta realize that they should deal him to the knicks or a team not demanding an extension or watch him walk in july.. nobody wants to play in newark. even for 2 years.

  • http://www.boogiewillaims.com Boing Dynasty

Hey media members, when you lie to a man, and tell him he has been traded to NJ, just to see his reaction, nothing else you say after that will be trusted, you might as well not talk anymore.

  • http://twitter.com/BeezKneezy LA Huey

I hope we’re not feeling sorry for the Nuggets. They’re willing to trade Chauncey after he’s stated that he wants to finish his career in Denver even they just start rebuilding. Players can decide to play for whomever they want because teams will trade them where ever they want.

  • http://slamonline.com SpaceJam

this is so f*cking boriiiiiing. can the trade just happen now! i mean this im gonna be excited when it happens. but news like “I dont want to talk to nobody” isnt interesting at the least. and then he said he would be with the nuggets all week?!?!? wat the hell. im getting so bored and annoyed and tired and hungry and mad. mad. mad. mad

  • JTaylor21

    RunNGun, did your water break?

  • http://Mrjones21901@aol.com Run’n'Gun219

stop stealing my name. get your own. lol

  • T-Money

This is just Melo being prudent to not raise any tampering flags. I don’t think we should read too much into that statement.

  • Vince5

He should stay in Denver until the off-season. These trades rumors are distractions to every players involved.

  • MusketeerX

    Hate CAA.

  • Tim

Yes stay in Denver you have a way better chance of winning a chip there anyway and plus i want Rip to stay in the D

  • http://shinefluid@aol.com just bcuz

apparently, the man dont wanna talk to nobody lol

  • dubb100

this dude wants to go to NY Knicks and will do so. if you cant see that your stupid as shtt

Carmelo is really apprehensive about the backlash he may receive from, not only the nuggets fans, but basketball fans around the world. He doesn’t want to make “The Decision” or take his talents to the East Coast and look like a bad guy. I think he is scared. Which is sad because it is a totally different situation. I hope he gets to where he’s going, because right now he is just wasting time for him and the Nuggets.

  • z

zoom pretty much summed up the situation perfectly at 1:00 pm. I have a bad feeling that this is going to a be a yearly phenomenon in the post LeDecision era.

  • http://www.need4sheed.com Tarzan Cooper

Heres whats going to happen: denver will trade melo to a contender for cheap. They will do that cuz they wont let him walk and get nothing in return. Melo wont sign in nj, cuz chauncey, rip, and brook 6boards lopez is only good enough for maybe second round for a year or two, then what? …. A contender, dallas? Will offer a low value deal to rent melo for the playoffs. Melo signs with knicks as a fa. What he loses on his contract can be made up with in endorsements. Knicks want melo, but dont want to give up good pieces. There it is, thats whats going to happen.

Denver is wasting time working on trades that land Carmelo with the New Jersey Nets. If I’m Carmelo, I keep playing basketball for the Nuggets, and I enjoy watching that trade deadline clock tick down. You don’t go somewhere you aren’t gonna be happy, when the owners just gonna roll the salaries back under the new cba anyways. It’s a trade to the Knicks or free agency. It’s that simple.

Nets = nobody, while the Knicks = somebody. Just sayin’.

  • majic

    hes stalling hard

  • c spence run

“I dont want to talk to nobody.” Thats a double negative. he clearly wants to talk to someone.

  • http://slamonline.com biged

i think at the end of the day he’s gonna be the winner. He doesn’t need the 65 million that bad (he rich and his wife got her own money too). Good things come to does who wait. just wait till the perfect opportunity comes. the nuggets are the ones with a deadline, not Melo

  • http://dodgers.com Joey E.

double negatives man, double negatives. thanks c spence for bring it up

  • Jerz

Get off Melo’s back. He did it the right way. He’s playin out his contract. No rule that says he has to require an extension. if that was the case then what’s the point in free agency? He notified the team that he wants a trade so they don’t have to be left w/ nothing like Cleveland. & really he can veto any deal he wants. don’t blame him for not being okay w/ wherever they send him. Denver shouldn’t have mismanaged the situation like this.ppl hate to see a player controlling his destiny. anybody who sides with these filthy rich owners is an idiot. players get traded in the middle of games, but that’s just business as usual. when players have the same attitude, their spoiled? what sense does that make?

  • http://www.triplejunearthed.com/dacre Dacre

It’s funny because he’s lying… but the OPPOSITE way LeBron would.

  • dma

Man, either the media has gotten lazy without editing athletes’ grammar these days, or they’re painting them out to be complete idiots. i don’t want to talk to nobody.??

  • Mitch

“I don’t want to talk to nobody” = double negative, meaning melo actually wants to talk to somebody…

  • M1K3YR0CKS

    ^it’s like inception…

  • jrok

carmelo would have to be a fool to agree to play for NJ, heck if i was an NBA player i wouldnt wanna play there either and i think he is smart enough to realize that its not the best situation for him either now or long term especially… hence the holdup… if im denver im not so absolute in it has to be new jersey, if they keep up with that they’re gonna end up with nothing… i will be extremely disheartened and disappointed if he goes to the nets…

  • http://www.collegemixes.com Chill

It doesn’t matter where he goes this year. He’s going to New York next year.

  • thegfunk

Is it just me or does someone always bring up the same strain of argument. Ball players are whiners, they earn too much for there own good and then they say thay have personal feelings for them e.g they dislike them. Also that they should take what they are offered because it should be an honour or something. Seriously its melos world, his life decision. I think I would be contemplating the same things. I mean if ball is your job then whats the difference being offered a job in the ball buisness to the law buisness or whatever. Celebrity culture huh……………..
