Golden State Warriors Owner Looking to Land a Superstar

The new boss in Golden State wants Warriors fans to know that he’s on the lookout for a big-time player. And, oh yeah, no one on the roster is safe from becoming trade bait. The Mercury News reports: ”The theme: The Warriors are now an active, antsy franchise, just dying to make the move that would change everything and not afraid to contemplate dealing away their best players. ‘I’m certainly biased toward doing something — strongly,’ [Joe] Lacob said Thursday during our long discussion in the owner’s clean corner office at the Warriors facility. ‘What I would really love to do is to pull off the deal to get a superstar. There’s one or two of them out there.’ Denver’s Carmelo Anthony would be the main one, and Lacob admits Anthony is probably headed elsewhere … Lacob said he loves the offensive firepower of the Warriors’ Monta Ellis-Stephen Curry backcourt, but had questions about the duo’s ability to hold up defensively. ‘I really like those guys as individuals, and I like them as players,’ Lacob said. ‘But I have to be honest, it depends. If we got offered a great situation, would I break it up? Yes.’ The owner called Ellis ‘our core, franchise player,’ and agreed that Curry has not played to the standards of last season. ‘Does that mean that Curry would be traded, or more likely to be traded than Ellis? Not necessarily,’ Lacob said. ‘It really depends … This is all dependent on what you’re going to get in return.’ But the difference from just last summer is unmistakable: Curry used to be beyond trade talk, even for Lacob, and he’s not now.”

They’d be stupid to trade Curry, he’s such experiencing a sophomore slump. Such a short sighted move

They’re stupid to publicly put every player on the trade block. I hope those “be loyal to your team” observers are taking note here.

They gotta eventually trade either monta or curry. A dual 6-3 backcourt is just too much a defensive liability. Montas finally showed he can be an efficient player as well as a pure scorer, so I’d say curry would be great trade bait.

Then again, the warriors always seem to like to trade their best player away.

Agree with Brahsef, as dynamic as the duo is offensively…if you want to win on the big stage you cannot have such gaping holes defensively. Break them up if a great deal comes along, but dont let them go for pennies.

  • fruizm

why couldn they kept the warriors team that had baron, stephen jackson, monta, and al harrington….that seemed like a good team…i also saw some good pics of them partying at drunkenathlete.com haha.

The new owner needs to call Dan Snyder for how to land high priced free agents and ask him how that worked out for him.

Dont trade curry. Hes young up and coming player. I know hes been su par this year. But he has been injured. Monta on the other hand relies too much on his atlethism. Dont want to part with either of these guys but

I have a feeling they won’t trade Curry. I have a feeling they WILL trade Monta.

  • flipnoyce

So they should get a defensive 3 and 5 to compensate for their 1 and 2 since they already have David Lee doing all their rebounds. They had a good team and they broke it off. That team was the team that upset the Mavs.

Carmelo’s a phenomenal scorer but he’s not a superstar. That’s what his agents say, but he’s not.

  • http://www.kb24.com The Seed

Monta should be traded, he just scores points, plays no defense and to me plays like a selfish overrated YMCA player, that can only score and gets picks first, but people hate to play with him. Curry is a point guard that can shoot, pass, working on defense. Warriors need a big shooting guard, that can play defense and score. BOOK IT!

d*mn! just when i was considering getting an Ellis jersey

  • Shem

Really? You guys don’t think if they trade david lee and get an inside presence as well as a player that can hold their man at the 3 they could be a decent defensive team? The Heat play with a 6’4 Dwade and Carlos Arroyo/ Chalmers. Of course Wade is much better on d then Ellis but I think they can make it work.

  • Wierdo

It would be STUPID to trade Ellis or Curry their both 20 point scorers a night. They should trade Biedrins and Ekpe Udoh to the Wizards for McGee and Blatche.

  • Wierdo

Trade Curry to Denver for JR Smith!!!!!!!
