Kevin Durant on Chris Bosh: ‘Fake Tough Guy’

by Marcel Mutoni@marcel_mutoni

It’s kind of amazing when you consider it: Despite the public breakup with his old team, the winking ads, and occasionally controversial Twitter declarations, LeBron James is arguably not the most disliked member of the Miami Heat.

Chris Bosh has managed to continuously draw the ire of the public this season, and yesterday afternoon in Oklahoma City, he got under Kevin Durant‘s skin.

The two exchanged words early in the game, and following the Miami Heat‘s tough road win, Durant explained what his issue with Bosh was.

The Oklahoman has the quotes:

“He was telling Harden to dunk on me,” Bosh said. “He said dunk the next one. I expressed that, no, he’s not going to dunk that. And he expressed, yes he is. We just kind of went back and forth. I don’t think it was anything to get a tech over. It was just talking.”

“I was talking to my teammate and he decided he wanted to put his two cents into it,” Durant said. “I’m a quiet guy, a laid back guy. But I’m not going to let nobody talk trash to me. He’s on a good team now so he thinks he can talk a little bit. But it’s a lot of fake tough guys in this league and he’s one of them.”

“I’m no punk,” Durant said. “I wasn’t even talking to him, first-off. He decided to butt in. I’m not just going to let that slide, especially in our house. He’s not one of those guys that I look at and say he has a rep for talking back to guys or always getting into it. He’s a nice guy. He’s not one of those guys. So I’m not going to let that type of person say something to me like that”

Nothing too controversial there; it’s likely just frustration from a highly-competitive guy spilling over after a difficult loss on national television.

It bears noting, however, that Kevin Durant normally never says anything like that about any opponent, at least not to the media.

jtaylor. how did kobe rat? and who did he rat on? please tell me you are not talking about that shaq sh1t…

I also have to think about a guy that held a press conference, in tears, that told of his cheating, being less than credible. I’m not sure what part of that you might have missed when it was aired, but it happened.

  • karma

Given how image conscious he was at the time, and the fact that his superstardom was quite heavy, plus the se.xual actions of the girl after the alleged assault – there is no way dude is guilty.

  • http://www.slamonline.com Eboy

And if he was just trying to save face, it backfired (at least at THAT time).

  • the nerve

yeah. sh!t got hot in that room w/the hnic’s. shtt got hot n the lil n!gga be like BUT SHAQ GIT 2 PAY OFF HIS HOS! y I CANT PAY THIS BICH??!! nicka aint hood. sound like yall lil pissboy juks. yea im in his azz 2 day. n!gga aint even new money. grandpappy dun left the money to his lazy livin w/his daddy ass. aint even self made. wonder if dat nucka related 2 ryan leaf. nicka sound like hin when he cry. • karma

I’m not supporting him being in that scenario. He was obviously wrong to agree with the girl to consensual sex when he had a wife and a kid waiting. But people act as if he is the only professional athlete who cheats. No, he’s one of the few that got caught publicly. The girl exploited the situation, and he was trapped. She played it smart – he did not.

  • http://www.slamonline.com Eboy

I also look at like this: if dude was able to part with a few mill to make homegirl go away…he could have easily put out a mill or two for legal fees and a top flight defense team in a civil matter to clear his name….in the court of public opinion.

  • http://www.chicagonow.com/blogs/chicago-bulls-confidential/2011 Diesel

Celebrities and companies settle out of court all the time to make bad publicity go away. It doesn’t necessarily mean they’re guilty. They’re just weighing the price of paying to make it go away vs fighting it in court and having your name out there in a negative light for a long time. It hurts business/endorsements. And if we’re talking about credibility in the Kobe case, we have to mention the accuser having THREE different men’s DNA on her underwear.

  • karma

I’m not speaking in absolutes btw – sorry for the tone of my last post. I’m saying, given the circumstances, his position, and the evidence regarding the woman, I don’t buy it.

  • karma

@ Diesal – That’s my main point. The girl backed off when knowing that her sexual history was going to be called in question on trial.

  • http://www.slamonline.com Eboy

Diesel, c’mon kid. YOU know that’s generic bullsh*t. Stop it. As soon as ESPN ran the name Eagle County & possible r*pe in their headlines, dude’s name was discolored. There WAS not turning back at that point. The damage was done. You usually try to settle out of court BEFORE sh*t hits the press if you are a company/brand. He had all the right people and the financial backing to make that happen. It was a misstep on his P.R. people’s part….however they were at the time.

  • http://www.slamonline.com Eboy

    however=whoever.

  • karma

Though the transcripts from the Smoking Gun were hilarious, and brutally honest. I actually believe the guy – call me niave, but a dude in his position would not need to r*pe for sex.

  • http://thetroyblog.com Teddy-the-Bear

Kevin Durant is kind of in the wrong here. He was all p!ssed off and moping because Bosh gave Harden a hard foul–which wasn’t even that bad of a foul. Pshh.

  • the nerve

now that i think bout it i think i ran thru her too at some point. i gotta look her up she might b 1 of my hos

  • http://twincityslim@yahoo.com Jahi

Durant at the least has good sounbytes. He owned Bosh with that excerpt, “There are a lot of fake tough guys in this league, He is one of them.” Hilarious. Too many ball players want to be “thugs”. Play ball, and shut the f*** up unless you have something worthwhile to speak about.

I have no loyalties in the Bron vs Kobe debates, but I could definitely see Kobe’s people advising him to just pay the girl and make this go away as fast as possible. Then go out there and win the public back by winning games. The faster you get it over with the faster you can get back to winning over the public. Say Kobe did fight it. I’m guessing it would have taken about a year. That’s an entire year his name would be associated with the whole ordeal. Then he’d have to spend another year winning the public over again. The way it ended up playing out, Kobe had almost completely restored his image after that first year’s time. And from what I’ve seen in the media, the clearing of someone’s name never gets as much publicity as the initial accusation, so I’m sure that weighed in on the decision as well. I don’t know if Kobe’s guilty or not, but I don’t think him settling definitely proves anything. That being said, I also don’t support the thought process of “Kobe wouldn’t need to r*pe anyone”. People do stupid things for stupid reasons. I don’t put anything past anyone.

  • http://www.slamonline.com Myles Brown

    This is incredibly stupid.

  • JTaylor21

Oh no, I’m far from being a mobster but I do know that I’m not a rapist, a rat, a copycat and a faker which is all something that your idol excels in.

  • karma

Nice on Jtaylor. I’m shook – there’s no comeback for something as definitive as that!

  • Michael

I would seriously consider parting with a few mil to make it all go away if i were on NBA money even if i was innocent. Dude was trying to reconcile with his family and all that, a drawn out court case would have been the worst thing for it.

I have read countless times on here how people judge Bron solely on his skills on the court…….

  • http://www.bulls.com Enigmatic

Damn that chick had THREE dude’s stuff in her underwear?
“Yous a ho, you know yous a ho. How do you know? Cause the panties said so”. Word to Ice Cube, pre-family friendly version.

  • Michael

@Jtaylor, you said somewhere on here yesterday that you dont hate Kobe, Do you still maintain that? cause its bullsh*t dude, your obsessed with the guy, your always on here spitting out random sh*t about him. What did he do to you?

“I have read countless times on here how people judge Bron solely on his skills on the court……” It is….until JTaylor decided to randomly mention Kobe’s 2003 charges, then it was open season.

    Ironic, isn’t it, karma.
Seems there is a double standard for Kobe.

NBA players are b*tches I’m sorry not matter who got in my face I’m not backing down from anybody. Chumps jump up to get beat down lol I’m just saying don’t talk sh*t if you’re gonna throw down.

  • http://slamonline.com zoom

And FYI: Men don’t r*pe because they are sexually deprived. How about you guys do some reading outside of sports articles. You might learn a thing or two about the subject. The ignorance is really astounding.

  • tRay

**if you’re not gonna throw down my bad

  • Keith Bogans

KD needs to relax….did you see how close he got to Bosh during that altercation, next time KD don’t get so close to Bosh, he has a family!

  • http://slamonline.com zoom

I’m starting to peep how slam moderators will take their sweet time posting comments when they actually have some value. Funny how my whole post disappeared but if I posted some random bs it would have gone right through without a problem. Smfh

  • karma

@zoom: I get that – and I’m assuming you mean outside reasons such as for the sake of dominance or control (traits applicable to Kobe). I’m just analyzing the situation based on what he had to lose at the time, and his level of intelligence. Not to say that only stupid people commit crimes, obviously not, but to put his entire career at jeopardy (especially given how career-conscious the guy is), along with the girl’s se.xual actions following her act with Kobe doesn’t add up.

  • JTaylor21

That wasn’t a comeback because I was stating facts. I don’t hate dude but I do hate his fans and the media. Those morons swear that dude is as good as MJ and some of them even think he’s better. Wouldn’t you hate them also?

  • http://hoopedia.nba.com/index.php?title=Russell_vs._Wilt nbk

Kobe did not r*pe that girl. She showed up with DNA from 5 different dudes to the medical examiner. That’s like believing a drug addict who just broke into the local pharmacy is clean

  • karma

Nobody believes he’s better than MJ. You’re an idiot. People discuss for the sake of discussing – nothing is definitive.

  • karma

You were stating facts? Really? Calling him a r.apist is not a fact – he was not charged as guilty. Calling him a rat is also not accurate – “ratting” would result in the “ratted” party to have criminal implications. A “copycat” is not a fact – all players use moves they learned from other players; its how you get better. Have you ever played sports before? Granted, Kobe was a bit strange earlier in his career, but why is it a negative that he liked MJ’s moves? They’re the same build, same type of skill set – why not? And calling him a “faker” is not a fact – its subjective and doesn’t even make sense in the context of what we were talking about. Boom, roasted. Now shut it.

  • http://hoopedia.nba.com/index.php?title=Russell_vs._Wilt nbk

actually people on here have said he is definitely better then Jordan. I’ve seen it on multiple occasions

  • karma

Then they’re stupid and shouldn’t be taken seriously. The younger kids likely think he’s better – anyone who’s capable of reasonable thought and a little research will tell you other wise. Kobe’s individual stats, nor his overall stats match up to Jordan’s. My issue is people painting Kobe as this super villain that needs to be knocked down at every peg, regardless of the accomplishment.

  • http://sdfklf.com Jukai

The Gracies weren’t THAT great. They brought a martial art that was tailor made for Karatekas and Judo guys and went to the bank with it. Generally when they fought other grappler guys they lost. When EVERYONE started learning grappling (and the sport became true MMA), they simply couldn’t compete.
    True stuff.
Fedor used to be a badass but he’s become a wimp cause he’s too worried about his pristine record.
Silva is the best mixed martial artist in history. He has it all: Boxing timing, kickboxing attack power, a masterful skillset of BJJ and Judo means he’s impossible to grapple, the flexibility of a Tae Kwon Do guy, not to mention he’s specifically trained with Lyoto Machida with that whole stance/footwork stuff? He’s unbeatable. Like, a lot of guys have trained in some martial arts, even have belts, but they don’t really know the stuff once they get into the ring. Anderson Silva literally takes the stuff and adds it to his repertoire. I can’t see Belfort lasting more than one round.
So uh, what was this thread about?

  • http://nobulljive.com/ Enigmatic

Without the Gracies MMA wouldn’t be what it is today. True story.
And Anderson Silva has improved TREMENDOUSLY over the years. First time I watched him he was submitted by a traingle choke in a Pride FC fight by some Japanese dude and I didn’t think twice about him until he started whoppin’ on cats in the UFC.

  • http://slamonline.com zoom

@ karma and everyone else: You’re entitled to your opinions but NONE of you know what you are talking about when it comes to why a r*pist r*pes, or what type of woman is and should be considered a victim. The comments on why he may or may not be guilty are flat out dumb. Comments about whether or not she’s a victim based how promiscuous she is are beyond stupid. How does it even make sense? I could see if she was a known liar, but a perp doesn’t care if a woman is a wh*re or not. You dudes should just stick to basketball.

  • karma

Then enlighten us, genius. My point wasn’t that she’s lying because she was promiscuous – you need to read more. I said she’s more prone to lying based on the timing of her encounter with Kobe, and other men who were found on her loins in the given time vicinity. You don’t find it odd that someone who is screaming “r.ape” was found with the stains of multiple men in a 3 day period? R.ape kits are given what, 24-72 hours following the proposed assault, no? In that case, it means that within the 3 days (or however long she took a break between the encounter and the r.ape kit), there were 3 different men in contact with her se.xually. Someone screaming “r.ape” would not be doing that. There’s a difference between promiscuity and questionable circumstances.
