Kobe Bryant to Be Honored at Grauman’s Chinese Theater

Bean will become the first athlete ever to have his foot and foot imprinted at the legendary Hollywood theater during All-Star Weekend. Per the Press Release: “Legendary Los Angeles Lakers’ shooting guard Kobe Bryant is set to become the first athlete to have a hand and footprint ceremony at the world renowned Grauman’s Chinese Theater on February 19, 2011. The ceremony will take place during the City of Los Angeles’ hosting of the NBA All Star Weekend festivities and will be followed later that evening with a lavish star studded gala event for Bryant, 1,200 VIP guests and select members of the public. ‘To be a part of such elite company is a tremendous honor. I’m proud to be the first athlete to be recognized,’ said Bryant. Jeru Tillman of Southfield Village Entertainment stated, ‘Today’s athletes are among the best known and most talented entertainers in the world. We are pleased Kobe will be honored for the many years of enjoyment he has given us on the basketball court.’”

wooow, i wonder how Shaq feels after he brought them 3 str8 championship and then got traded like a 5dollar ho0ker.

  • PlanetAsia14 Posted: Jan.21 at 3:26 pm
This is sick, congrats Kobe, you deserve it.

  • c_cantrell Posted: Jan.21 at 3:27 pm
i dont think he should be the 1st.. i think if they are going to pick any athlete to be the 1st to be honored so, it should be michael jordan.. and i believe most would agree

  • Teddy-the-Bear Posted: Jan.21 at 3:30 pm
^ Probably because he plays for LA. I think Kareem should be the first, if that’s the case. The dude has been in movies, too.

  • c_cantrell Posted: Jan.21 at 3:49 pm
^yeah true i wasnt thinking about kareem.. but still jordan was much more popular than kobe and also had a clean, positive record for the most part (see no r**e accusations)

After some clicking around I’ve learned that Kobe’s mom is kinda hot.

  • ab40 Posted: Jan.21 at 6:18 pm
his foot and foot wow impresive. seriously kobe is not that great

  • The Seed Posted: Jan.21 at 6:59 pm
Kobe is this generation’s MJ, thats why he is being honored and please people don’t bring up dumb stuff. Kobe has done great for himself and now HATERS just watch him get footprints, then watch him get a sixth ring.

  • Omnixyience Posted: Jan.21 at 9:26 pm
    co-sign The Seed.
    Amen brother!

  • Kobesucks Posted: Jan.21 at 10:43 pm
Kobe isn’t ANY generation’s MJ. Not as popular and not as good of a player. Only his groupies think he is.

  • Nick Tha Quick Posted: Jan.22 at 1:14 am
^^^ Co-sign The Seed. Of course they gotta bring non-basketball stuff to discredit Bean. It wouldn’t be Slam if someone didnt bring up the allegations, his copying of MJ, his poor-shooting Game 7, his winning with Shaq and then now with Paul, every time something nice happens to him.

  • Dacre Posted: Jan.22 at 9:01 am
Hmm… Los Angeles showing love to their favorite son. I have no problem with this – Chicago have a STATUE of MJ no less and Shaq has his own show (even if it was originally Steve’s) so no big deal.

  • Choc Posted: Jan.22 at 12:14 pm
By bringing up ‘dumb stuff’ you mean his penchant for being an univited anal guest, or the fact that Shaq was primarily responsible for those 3 chips, or the fact that he tries to imitate but never duplicate MJ, the goat? That dumb stuff?

  • PlanetAsia14 Posted: Jan.22 at 12:29 pm
Cosign The Seed: Kobe is definitely this generation’s MJ, no one’s came as close as he has… And @c_cantrell: I’m pretty sure MJ probably cheated with many girls too, he’s just better at covering it than say, Tiger Woods, or Kobe Bryant…

  • Choc Posted: Jan.22 at 1:42 pm
MJ was/is no saint as a person. His greatness is strictly basketball related. He had the benefit of not being popular during the age of the internet. Otherwise it would be more well known that he is just as much of a douche as Kobe, Tiger, and Ben R*pistburger. As far as basketball is concerned he is/was the best. Just because Kobe came the closest doesn’t mean he’s anyone’s MJ.

  • BlackPhantom Posted: Jan.22 at 9:15 pm
Didn’t Michael’s father’s murder have something to do with his gambling addiction?(I’m not trying to make a point, I’m really seriously asking)

  • truthteller Posted: Jan.22 at 9:56 pm
@Choc: I have one question for you? how many rings or better yet how many final appearances doe Shaq without a superstar guard? take your time. Then how many rings does magic have without kareem? How many rings does MJ (yes, MJ) have without Scottie? theses people all needed each other. So, why does Kobe get punished for winning with Shaq and Pau and nobody else? That’s what he means by dumb stuff!

  • Choc Posted: Jan.22 at 11:21 pm
@ BlackPhantom: That rumor has been around for years but never substantiated. I still believe it’s possible. MJ’s gambling addiction was bananas. @truthteller: Nobody’s ‘punishing’ Kobe. MJ was the primary reason for those rings, just like Shaq was. Kobe has 2 rings where he was “the man”. That’s real.

  • Cheers Posted: Jan.22 at 11:27 pm
Choc…. ok how many rings did Magic win then? Im just curious.

  • Yann Blavec Posted: Jan.23 at 10:07 am
It was 5 years ago today that Kobe scored 81 points.

  • The Philosopher Posted: Jan.23 at 10:11 am
    BlackPhantom:
I’m glad that you are allowed to ask that question.

  • Matt Posted: Jan.31 at 11:00 pm
Koby is not the first athlete. 10 time World Champion and 3 time Olympic Gold Medalist, Figure Skater, Sonia Henie was the first in 1937. She was in a Movie in 1936. She was the lead. She played a Figure Skater. She was not Oscar caliber. She only got on screen to take advantage of her skating talent. In fact, her skating blades were used in the Grauman’s Cement. So she was the first athlete..not Koby.

I am a TRUE Laker fan and admire the accomplishments of Kobe but…Magic Johnson should have been considered as the first to get prints. Why Kobe? Why not Jordan? Who picked/voted?

  • Yesh Posted: Feb.16 at 1:31 pm
does anyone know what time this is going to happen?
