Nate Robinson on Dunk Contest: ‘They Set it Up For Blake to Win’

NBA.com’s Steve Aschburner reports: “Clippers forward Blake Griffin, who has turned the first half of the 2010-11 season into one big commerical for the dunkathon at Staples Center next month, is Robinson’s pick. Rather cynically, in fact. ‘Of course. They set it up like that. They set it up for Blake to win it like that,’ Robinson said before the Boston Celtics faced the Chicago Bulls Saturday night at United Center. B-b-but why would the almighty ‘they’ do that? Because it’s in L.A.? Because Griffin is the likely Rookie of the Year? Because he finally has given the Clippers a budding star with national and global marketing appeal? ‘Everything. It’s all set up,’ said the Celtics’ guard, who ‘retired’ from the dunk contest after winning in Dallas last February. ‘But we’ll see. I’m not saying he can’t dunk, because he can. Though we’ll see how it goes. Hopefully the guys that are in there with him will give him some competition and put on a show. Because that’s all it’s for — it’s a show. That’s the whole meaning of the dunk contest.’”

I think they should make all of the dunk contesters compete in a 3 point contest and all of the 3 pt shooters dunk :) then i maybe actually watch it .

@fariz, no , he did not win it by pure luck, it was set up. That’s how he knows

LeBron too scared to lose thats why he has never been in the dunk contest in addition to he doesn’t have any sweet dunks. Hw does the same lame dunks all the time.

As for Nate he did some nice dunks, but the year he missed like 30 dunks in a row he definitely shouldn’t have won. They robbed AI because when he caught the ball off the back of the backboard and dunked it, that should have been end of story.

Oh and again LBJ a puss thats why he not in the dunk contest. He always say he going to do it then when theres someone he not sure he can beat he back out like a sucka, kinda like how he left Clev, lol

You have got to be kidding me. LeBron im sure doesnt care about the dunk contest. He would have done it long time ago.

Tell me you have never said to someone “yea yea” just so they leave you alone. LOL i know i have.

You might as well put Blake Griffins name on the trophy. He has yet to lose a dunk contest since he been playing ball. Javale Mcgee is my dark horse just because he a Wizard. I’m bias sorry. lol Why is Brandon Jennings in this? Plus he’s still injured, and my man Serge Ibaka is a game dunker. After this one let this be the final one. Discontinue this event. The dunk contest is dead.

since stars don’t join the contest anymore.. then need to do something and bring some street cats in.. or some and-1 heads in the contest.. have them team up with an NBA player.. and average the scores.. i’m visioning NBA JAM double dunks.. in regards to Nate.. he’s right.. that blake was set up to win.. but not to help the clippers.. why would the nba want to help them out?..

completly set up..its going to be so damn funny if bjennings wins lol

Yep it must be some big conspiracy. Of course they want BG in the contest….he’s a beast and will draw a big crowd regardless of the competition. But it makes no sense to “set it up” for BG to win. As much as I respect Nate and what he can do, that’s plain wrong.

I can see where he’s coming from, it’s probably fair to say Griffin is heavily favored by most to win it vs that “competition”. On the other hand, if it doesn’t take Blake 13 tries to throw down his dunk, then little Nate Rob has to shut his hole. :)

can u spell H.A.T.E.R, he set it up for himself. the leauge didnt anticipate him missing his rookie year and then coming in and taking the L by storm. he has worked hard, and it just so happens to be tht the dunk contest is in his city. green is not a good look 4 u nate, tht is green wit envy~

Here we go again… Little man syndrome. Demar got this one.

  • Nomasiac

How come J.R. Smith never get’s no shout??
It’s good that Lebron never enters, his dunks never look all that visually!

  • curtis
