Poll: 69% of NBA Players Expect Another Lakers Championship

The OC Register got its hands on the latest S.I. poll of NBA players, most of whom expect to be watching the Lakers three-peat this summer: “A Sports Illustrated poll of 157 NBA players resulted in 69 percent of them picking the Lakers to win the 2011 NBA championship. Also receiving votes were the Celtics (22 percent), Heat (3), Magic (2) and Spurs (1). The survey was conducted throughout December.”

With a healthy Bynum, I say Yes.

  • http://slamonline.com Kap

I bet my krimson and white kane on it.

  • hiphopcop

jahmai, is right, Bynum is the mfing KEY. Healthy, only the Celetics will make it tough

  • feez22

“with a healthy bynum” thats like saying “with a 82 game consistent odom”. They can do it for small stretches but sooner or later boom… injury. hopefully yall dont face the grizz again they like to injure bynum.

I’m extremely surprised that that number is so high. Were the majority of players polled not on contenders? And welcome to the century club, Kap.

i don’t think it’s a surefire thing like Lakers fans, but i just don’t see any team beating them 4 out of 7 times in a series with their lineup, no matter how bad they look currently.

not anymore, check their record and their attitude

50% of Slam online commenters predict a Heat championship

  • http://www.slamonline.com AllBall247

Jackie Moon – 50% of Slam online commenters are Heat fans, with the rest seemingly 30% Bulls, 10% Lakers, 10% everyone else/know one.

  • c85

yea online people, not pros that r actually in the gme and know the game better than all of us… 3peat baby

  • toinefan88

I love how everybody sleeps on the Celtics. As a Celtics fan I’d like to see that 22% a little lower though. It will make this Summer’s championship all the more enjoyable.

Only 1% think Spurs can win?

Those stats are very, very wrong.
I think you must have missed the earlier part of the season when the Lakers were gods, the Heat were bums, and the Celtics and Lakers were cruising towards their rubber match.
More people here like the Lakers than any other team.

If your an NBA player and your not voting for your own team to win it then theres something wrong.

  • http://www.slamonline.com Nick Tha Quick

How is it that the Timberwolves did not get any votes? Didn’t David Kahn say it was between the Lakers and the Wolves to win the championship?

  • http://www.slamonline.com AllBall247

You are right, in recent days it just seems different.

(Butt-head voice) Huh, Huh, Huh, Sixty-Nine.. All jokes aside, as much as I hate to admit it, Lakers know how to win when it matters, may be in a little bit of a funk right now, but they will pull it together come spring time.. But im hoping Kage,Shaq,Mr. Shuttlesworth and CO are the winners..

  • Q.D.

Those 157 players must be on teams that have no chance of even making the play offs.

  • dako24

3 for Heat, Lebron, Wade, and Bosh are in denial and think this whole concept was a good idea still.

  • http://idunkonthem.blogspot.com/ albie1kenobi

there’s confidence, and then there’s delusional. some of you are funny.
in regards to the SLAMily, Lakers definitely have the most supporters here. Heat fans are actually just 3-4 more than average, except they are really really loud. we have supporters of different teams around here, but if the team isn’t doing too hot, then the legions don’t post as much, which makes sense. and of course there are plenty who are just NBA fans with no allegiance.

I mean who really knows? Anything can happen in the playoffs; injuries, team disconnect, star player gets hot, role players step up and matchup problems/advantages. So any one of those factors can decide who wins the whole thing. One thing I do know is that I can’t wait for the playoffs to start.

  • drew

it’s going to come down to the lakers, spurs, celtics and heat barring any major trades or injury.

  • Pugz

    Big Bynum. Word.

  • http://www.slamonline.com Eboy

When they conducted this poll, were the players asked…high?

  • JL

@nick, the wolves, although on the east coast, is in the western conference. go figure. but seriously, only 3% think the heat? wow.

Lakers and Knicks fans dominate this website, followed by Chicago. As it should, considering the market size’s

  • http://www.slamonline.com Nick Tha Quick

^^^ Unless they traded the state of Minnesota to the east coast, last time I checked they were in the north Mid-west. or that’s what Mrs. Felder, Chris Paul’s grade school teacher taught me!

  • TheBarberShop

Rockets goin all the way and will shock the basketball world. Aaron Brooks 2011 finals mvp. you heard it here first! (dream big)

  • http://slamonline.com Allenp

Minnesota isn’t on any coast. Unless you count all the state’s lakes as one big body of water.
Minnesota is a cool state, dontcha know.

  • http://www.need4sheed.com Tarzan Cooper

Minnesota is almost canada, you hosers.

  • Da Holy Karron

I just dont see da lakers going four years str8 out of da west that is the hardest part. The spurs are lookin like they never ate b4 so its not looking good for them on that end. SA is the only ture team that has real firepower besides OKC but they young. Boston alone is still madd upset about last yr gm 7 and the deepest but oldest bench. MIA showcased on xmass what it is but we all know every1 is going to say its reguler season and dont mean anything. So we will see what happens in june. And i just dont see orlando doing anything this yr.

    It’s gonna happen.

^It’s funny and sad that I know what you’re talking about.

  • The Angel of Stern

I assume if this survey was taken today there would be more than 3 percent voting for the heat ..

  • http://slamonline.com Caboose

There’s a lot of Lakers fans here and a lot of Heat bandwagoners. I would disagree with this poll and say that as much as I hate the Heat, they should be getting much more votes. But of course, as per standard conduct, the Magic are slept on. Underrated and overlooked.

  • http://yahoo.com The Ambassador

Lebron probably put the Celtics because each time he goes to the playoffs against them he loses. I dont know why many people are suprised that many of the nba players pick the Lakers it obvious when the Lakers are healthy there such tough team to beat. The only reason why the Lakers lose is because of health or they arent playing with intensity.

  • Harlem_World

If everyone is healthy (and that’s a BIG if),the Celtics have the deepest and most talented team in the league and are the most experienced. If all the bigs, plus West are all back in time to get at least 10-15 games together before the playoffs and stay healthy throughout, the C’s will win it all. This coming from a Knick born and bred.

  • Jackie Moon

    No votes for the Cavs?

  • bisita

of course they will lakers. they the defending champs and seems their line up got better.

  • mick

if the refs have anything to do with it

  • riggs

69% percent of those players arent competitors and 0% of those 69% were celtics. C’s baby!

  • KB8toSG8

69% of their players are realistic lol. You don’t vote for your team in an SI poll. Would you rather have players say ” You kidding? My team aka the Minnesota Timberwolves/ the Cleveland Cavaliers/ the New Jersey Nets etc. are gonna win the Chip. Bank on it baby!!!?!”
That guy is gonna become a certified dumbass faster than Vlad Rad.

  • Aja R.Witt

Hah, yeah right. The Lakers can barely win a game let alone a championship.
